Gunsmithing Questions about brakes and muzzle threading

I recently purchased a 6.5cm takeoff Tikka Varmint barrel someone had threaded and had a custom made brake put on. I don't know if I will like the brake, it reminds me of the factory Savage ones. All my current brakes are 5/8x24 and they go on maybe a full turn or so before I feel resistance.

So a few dumb questions: How can I determine the thread pitch on this muzzle? Do you think this style of brake would be effective and worth keeping or is it just a loudener? If I do keep it how would I time it, a crush washer or shims or something?

SOLD Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon 3 20ga 30”

I bought this shotgun new this summer and have taken it to the clays course twice and shot maybe 200 rounds through it. It’s a amazing shotgun but clays just isn’t my thing and outside of that this thing does nothing my 20ga 870 doesn’t except look pretty and I’ve got a girlfriend for that.

It’s got a small ding in the wood on the bottom of the forend but that’s really it unless I’m missing anything. I did file and polish the cross pin that holds the safety in the receiver so that it’s smooth and you can actually manipulate it since all of these 680’s come with crazy stiff and rough feeling safeties from the factory for some reason.

It will come in its original box, original plastic case with all factory paperwork and chokes. I also purchased a Carlsons trap pack (LM, M, IM chokes) and installed two of them but haven’t shot it since.

I’m just over $3550 into it after tax and the choke set. Will sell for $3000 shipped to your FFL. No sales to CA or any other PITA states where I have to do anything more than box it up and ship it to the address on your FFL’s license. Payment via Zelle or USPS MO. Can do a FTF in the Tampa area to a FL resident with CCW or LE creds and knock a little off for shipping as well.

Not interested in any trades right now.

Kestrel Factory Reset Mid Match

Hi all

I was in the middle of shooting the MPA match over the weekend when I noticed that my target direction was 000 and it would not capture without compass calibration. I had calibrated the compass that morning but thought it was possible that it had just lost calibration. I tried 4 times to calibrate but after consistant fails, decided to restart the Kestrel. I was then, upon restart, able to calibrate the compass. When I input my data, I noticed that my elevation looked off. When I checked my gun profile, it only read "USERGUN1" or something of the sort. From there I reconnected my phone to the Kestrel and appended my profiles. I thought I was good and took the data the Kestrel gave me. Had two complete botches of stages so I decided to go double check my zero. As I walked to the zero range, I started to go through my gun profile where I noticed my zero range at 91m instead of 100y. When the Kestrel had its freak out, it also changed my units to metric - so when putting in my data for yards, it was reading it as meters. It cost me quite a few spots at the finish. Is there any reason why this may have happened and any way that I can keep it from happening in the future? I already turn off bluetooth after the morning to avoid someone connecting and uploading their gun profile to my Kestrel.

Thanks in advance

Post death of family member questions

So my father passed away last week. Currently it is just my sister and I left to deal with everything. I know about needing copies of death certificates and those types of things.

I guess I have questions concerning social security and IRS type issues. the SS website says the funeral home contacts them about the death. I also have heard you have to send back the last payment. So the question I have is does anyone know how they send payments? Based on his bank statements the last payment was received 9/30, and basically always the direct deposit takes place at the end of the month. Would that be considered payment for September? Or is that payment for October?

We could not find a will or know anything about a will. I know you have to process a tax return for this year with the IRS in '25. What I was not able to find is if there is anything special that needs to be done for them. The IRS website is a joke for that info. Nothing about relatives filing, or anything other that estate executor or similar such titles. The one piece of advice the CFO at my work told me is if he does owe money, do not pay it from my own account. The issue is we locked his bank account but my sister was listed as the beneficiary. I assume she would be able to be in control once that happens and make sure the money is there if needed to pay any tax and send money back to SS.

Sorry if this post seems a bit rambling, but this is all new to me. There isn't exactly a guide book out there for what and how to do all of these things. Thankfully he did not have much and did not own a home. His only income was SS and retirement. His record keeping was nonexistent so I feel like I am just bumping along until I figure something out. We removed every ounce of paperwork from his apartment and found his phone and wallet. He was not tech savvy despite being an incredibly good prototype machinist for Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon for a long time. No digital accounts, apps, email, passwords, etc. Finding everything has been extremely difficult to say the least.

My sister is still active Navy and has two young kids on her own due to a recent divorce from a deadbeat dad. I am just trying to remove any extra burden from her for the things were she was not listed as the beneficiary, or at least not sure if she is the one listed yet. This is turning into a total shit show and I just don't really have anyone else to ask but this very public forum. None of my friends have lost their parents and had to deal with this. The rest of my family is essentially non existent or has no experience in this space. I'm at a total loss on some of this trying to figure it out and prevent anyone from coming after myself or my sister for any debts or money we may not know about. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

SOLD LMT MRP SpecWar Stripped Upper *REDUCED*

WTS a New in Wrapper LMT SpecWar upper. I bought two and decided to only build-out one. MSRP $1014 - SOLD

Built with operational performance in mind, the new LMT Spec War upper was designed in partnership with some of Americas most specialized warfighters. This upper was built to utilize the new 12.5″ MRP barrel as well as other 12″ or greater barrels. We removed the built in forward QD swivels and extended the length over the traditional CQB length to improve ergonomics and accessory real estate. What this does is give the user a better fighting edge and increased lethality.

Among keeping the classic barrel swap capability, the Spec War focuses on the need to maintain a rigid platform for mounted laser aiming and illumination devices, crucial for night operations. Additionally, this upper receiver features MLOK pattern rail mounting platform and a continuous picatinny top rail. For those who require use of a QD sling, a single point is available in the aft portion of the receiver.

The patented LMT monolithic rail platform (MRP) upper receiver, has a receiver and handguard that are made from a single piece of aerospace grade aluminum. The barrel is held in place with a proprietary locking system that utilizes two locking bolts accessible from the right side of the receiver. The only tool needed is a standard T-30 Torx bit to tighten the bolts. This receiver requires the patented LMT monolithic barrel assembly which has a low profile gas block with straight gas tube.

Night Vision External power with AGM StingIR

I’m really tired of picking up my StingIR and either:
-Finding out the batteries had parasitic drain since the last time I used the thermal and they’re dead

Or

-having to take out the battery after every use and put it back in every time I want to use my thermal.

This seems like the dumbest thing. I fully realize that leaving batteries in my thermal will result in parasitic drain or possible corrosion, which is bad, but I just feel like this isn’t serious equipment if it can’t just be picked up and turned on when I need it.

So…I want to run my StingIR from an external battery/battery bank. The catch is that I want it to be something that attaches to the StingIR itself and not the rifle or a helmet. This is because I use my StingIR as a clip on and as a handheld. So the battery has to be capable and of easily moving from one to the other.

My initial searches brought up the Anker Nano, which plugs directly into the StingIR’s USB-C port and is about the width of an IPhone screen. This seems like it could work, but is definitely on the bulky side compared to the size of the StingIR. Plus I have worries about its durability and ability to withstand recoil without damaging the StingIR or the battery bank.

Are there other options? I’m not against attaching a battery bank to the side of the StingIR in some way if that’s the way to go.
