Zeiss S3 or S5

Hi there, I got a Zeiss discount cert and is debating between S3 6-36 and S5 5-25 for prs centerfire rifle. Does anyone have experience with both of them?

Simple question would be: is S5 $700 better than the S3? I have tried my friend's S3 at the range and find the eyebox bit tight comparing to razor gen3 and leupold Mk5, while the clarity is decent.

If the S5 got better eyebox and better glass quality, I personally would think probably it worth the extra cost.

SOLD Tangent Theta 5-25x56mm Gen 2XR Riflescope 800100-0001

Selling my Tangent Theta; this has seen use and will show minor sign of normal wear (I have tried as best I could to document this in the pictures). It was never abused, has no dents and functions exactly as it should. It was Range use only from a covered bench, i.e., never taken in the field, exposed to rain, snow, etc. Comes with the original box and everything exactly as delivered from the factory. I am the original owner. It has always been stored in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment.

DOES NOT INCLUDE MOUNT, SCOPE ONLY!

Description

Tangent Theta’s TT525P 5-25x56mm Professional Marksman
is a professional-level riflescope that offers rapid target acquisition at long, intermediate, and short range. The lenses are made premium glass, and its large 56mm objective lens and 32mm eyepiece deliver exceptional light transmission – this makes the TT525P perfect for applications in low light environments.

One of the TT525P’s more notable features is its non-translating turrets. The non-translating turrets do not move in and out in relation to the tube when turned, and incorporate an upper and lower scale of adjustments. The elevation turret features two complete rotations of adjustment. During the first revolution, the shooter uses the lower adjustment scale. When the second revolution is reached, a pin will protrude at the base of the elevation turret to notify the shooter that they need to read the upper adjustment scale. The use of non-translating turrets simplifies the act of making adjustments in the field as well as the overall operation of the scope. The turrets also feature a zero-stop function, which allows the user to quickly return to a known range zero and to be able to use that setting as a starting point to make further adjustments. Another innovative feature on the turrets is the exclusive Tool-Less Re-Zero function. This allows the user to adjust the reading of the adjustments without changing the point of aim in the scope. The Tool-Less Re-Zero procedure is simple: just loosen the lock three turns, adjust the dial to zero, and while holding the dial at precisely zero, tighten the lock to “finger tight”. Other features of the TT525P include an advanced illumination system with 11 brightness settings. Each setting features a tactile detent with additional detents between each setting. The illumination detectives between each setting, and a 6-hour automatic shutoff preserves battery life.

Features of the TT525P 5-25x56mm Professional Marksman:

  • Premium Glass and Large 56mm Objective Lens – Optimal light transmission and clarity
  • Non-Translating Turrets – Dual turn elevation turret with upper and lower adjustment scales. Simplifies the act of making adjustments in the field as well as the overall operation of the scope
  • Zero-Stop Function – Allows the user to quickly return to a known range zero and to be able to use that setting as a starting point to make further adjustments
  • Tool-Less Re-Zero Function – Allows the user to adjust the reading of the adjustments without changing the point of aim in the scope
  • Illumination – 11 brightness settings. Each setting features a tactile detent with additional detents between each setting. The illumination detectives between each setting, and a 6-hour automatic shutoff preserves battery life

Firearms Shadow Systems MR920 Elite, CZ Shadow 2 OR

Selling a couple of pieces that I have upgraded with other pistols. Both of these are in great condition and are sub 500 rounds. Look basically new.

SS MR920 Elite w/ threaded barrel: bought this last year and ended up getting a zev a couple of months after. Shot about 100 rounds suppressed without a flaw. I have both the stock and 20lb spring for shooting suppressed. It’s as clean as it was when it was brand new. $625 shipped

Shadow 2 OR: Similar story here - around 300 rounds on this one. Bought another one with some CGW magic and don’t need 2 of them. Will come with the stock blue grips or I can throw in the green vytals for $100 more. $900 shipped

Rifle Scopes S&B 5-25 vs 3-20 US at 20x

Ok S&B wizards, I own a 5-25 with the H2MCR but am considering replacing it.

Have my eye on either the same scope or 3-20 US with the GR2ID (in case this scope lands on my 204 someday, the TR2ID doesn’t fit my varmint shooting 204-blowing-in-the-wind needs).

My question to you is at 20x, give me your feels on both. Eyebox, sharpness, etc. 20x is where I shoot a LOT at due to tiny targets. Way smaller than a typical CF comp steel plate and 20x magnification is critical. For me, anyway.

Above 20x mirage is often a factor, so 20x is the sweet spot. And on the gun I’m thinking about, a S&B is a perfect look.

I do know a scope tends to perform the best in the middle mags, or at least not in the extremes of its mag range. The 5-25 does darken rather significantly between 20x and 25x, and that’s another consideration if that happens to the 3-20 at 20x.

So I can guess at what the crowd will say, but I’d like to hear from those who have looked through both models.

Scope reconditioning

I have an old Springfield Armory scope that is near and dear to me. It functions just fine (less the lighted reticle which is inoperative). But it needs a cosmetic makeover. Made in Japan and I really don’t want to send it overseas and there is no stateside service facility that I can find. Any recommendations of someone who can help me? I’d prefer someone known to you as reputable. TIA.

Athlon Ares 2.5-15x Overkill for Hunting?

Before covid ruined everything, I was excited about shooting and hunting, so I bought a lot of junk. I got myself a Tikka T3x in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I thought I would hunt deer with it, which has never happened. I am trying to get back on track and do whatever has to be done in order to get some kind of hunting done, whether it's deer, pigs, or bears. I'll pay a guide. I don't care.

When I got this thing, I was all excited about mrad tactical reticles, because II had just learned to use one. I decided I wanted one for the rifle. I didn't want excessive minimum magnification, because I wanted a reasonably large field of view at the low end. I didn't think I needed total high-end snob glass. At the time, my decision was to get an Athlon ARES BTR GEN2 HD 2.5-15×50 APRS5 FFP IR MIL, which, obviously, goes from 2.5x to 15x.

Is this a crazy scope to use for hunting? It's on the bulky side. My wild guess is that I'll never shoot at any animal over 200 yards away.

Auto Trickler cover idea

Don’t know if anyone has come up with this one or passed it on but I was looking at some spare scope caps lying on the bench while loading a few days ago and realized this Butler Creek fit my Auto Trickler perfectly. Can’t recall the size but the flip up cap is great if you’re loading over a couple days. Seals up nicely.
