Who here has a custom Tikka action?

I'm seeing that the face of the Tikka action has a little bevel or chamfer around the circumference. Because of that, you can't spin on a 1.200" barrel without a little trench forming there at the junction. I'm seeing that some people have their receiver faces turned down to eliminate that bevel. My questions are 1. To get it completely flat, do any of the threads start getting removed when facing that receiver? 2. For those of you that have had theirs faced, what are the max barrel outside diameters that you can run now?

DDC Zilch and/or Direct thread adapter

In my quest to drop weight on my rifle i was about to by a new suppressor like a Sico schthe or ultra 7. The rep i was working with said "just use the Omega 30 i have and drop the quick detach mount of the back and put in a Zilch TI adapter and lose the ASR brake as well." He said i'll drop like 4oz and be down closer to the TI cans but still have a nice full auto rated Can altogether. Sounds great to me...

Im confused on the Zilch... What brake do i use on my 5/8x24 thread with the Zilch to accomplish this setup trying to keep weight to a minimum?

And i also see diligent makes a 5/8x24 direct thread but at that point i have no brake on the gun, and probably would need a muzzle cap which i have...

Whats the best way to do this, weight manement in mind. I want to trim the fat on this Omega .30 and keep running it.

Guessing by this and by done? https://diligentdefense.com/sample/

6.5 Creedmoor vs 6.5 PRC

I am currently torn between 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC, ballistically the 6.5 PRC looks like the winner, but it has drawbacks too, less options for factory ammo, more expensive per round, less common in stores (an issue in the next ammo panic, yes I reload but brass might be an issue), and the magazines are absurdly expensive compared to 6.5 Creedmoor, not to mention more recoil. I’m also concerned about throat erosion.

That said, there is no price difference in the rifle I am looking at, the 6.5 PRC has a 2 inch longer barrel and I can’t ignore the long range performance, especially if I am ever able to shoot past 1,000 yards.

Does the 6.5 Creedmoor have any more advantages over the 6.5 PRC that might sway me in that direction?

Is there a significant difference in throat erosion?

Which would you pick and why?

Reticle cant vs uneven terrain

I just bought a Harris bipod that is on a looser swivel than I had hoped for. My scope is perfectly level, so that's not the issue today, but what I'm wondering is: does uneven terrain effect your shot in a similar fashion to a canted scope/reticle? I've read recently that two degrees of cant on your mounted scope can translate to well over a foot of drift on POI at 500 yards. My question is this, as long as your scope is mounted level, then uneven terrain shouldn't really matter too much right? I can't imagine that Harris would leave their swivels so loose if a swivel's cant could affect your shot in a similar way that a canted scope mounting could. The gun is a Sig 716i 308. The max distance I will probably ever attempt is 1000 yards, but I will likely shoot much shorter most days. Let me know what you got.

SOLD Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x40 Ilum TMR Riflescope 67950

Very lightly used Leupold Mark 4 scope. I can’t remember exactly what the deal was on these but I think at the time I bought it Leupold was only selling the mark 4 to the Military or Law Enforcement. At this point that’s probably a “Who gives a shit”, but there is at least a little history behind these. Not sure where it fits against what is being offered today but if you’re building a reference rifle, e.g., M38, MK12 MOD1 for example then here you go. It’s sitting in a Larue LT104 quick release mount.

The Leupold Mark 4 LR/T ("Long Range/Tactical") is precision engineered and built to meet the needs of professional shooters throughout the world. In fact, there are currently more Mark 4 LR/T scopes in service with the US military than any other brand. Incredibly rugged, absolutely waterproof, and totally accurate, the Mark 4 LR/T is a proven scope. They are everything a tactical shooter, long-range shooter, target shooter, or hunter could ask for.

SOLD ZC420 Tremor 3

ZCO ZC420 for sale. It wasn't a safe queen so it has some wear and dirt on it, but it certainly wasn't abused. Only major cosmetic marks are on the bottom of the windage dial where brass would hit after being ejected, elevation dial and one spot in front of the magnification ring, other than that it's in really good condition. Mechanically it's perfect. I have a set of Hawkins Heavy Tac rings on it right now, but I also have a set of their Ultra Light tactical rings I can add for an additional $150 or swap for the Heavy Tac rings. It comes with the Tenebraex scope caps, sunshade, two scope chaps for with and without the sunshade and original box with all accessories. Asking $3400 shipped for everything pictured, buyer pays any requested insurance, PayPal F&F or Venmo F&F.

SOLD Leupold D-EVO Dual-Enhanced View Optic Combo, 6x20 Scope CMR-W DEVO Reticle, Leupold Carbine Optic Included - $1,600

Very lightly used Leupold D-EVO/LCO for sale. These funny looking bad boy's were controversial to say the least, although I give Leupold credit for at least trying something new and different. The concept I think was sound and the execution not bad either, it does work. A quick Google search will give you a ton of information. It’s in great condition (seriously, I think I took it to the range once). Comes complete with the D-EVO and the LCO, manuals, etc. Everything that Leupold shipped it with is included. Comments and questions welcomed. If you were tempted at the time, here’s a second chance. For better or worse it will generate some attention at the range! Asking $1,600. I will cover Shipping/Insurance in CONUS. PayPal FF, Zelle or payment terms can be discussed. Thanks!

Revolutionary solutions require original thinking. Leupold engineers have innovated again with the all new Dual-Enhanced View Optic (D-EVO). A unique, innovative design allows the 6x20mm D-EVO to be paired perfectly with the Leupold Carbine Optic (LCO), or virtually any red dot sight, to deliver a bold aiming point for reflexive shots and a magnified image for long-range precision with the mere movement of your eye. The exclusive Close Mid-Range Reticle with Wind Holds (CMR-W) allows users to successfully estimate range and engage targets with greater precision, speed, and flexibility and the hold-overs are compatible with 5.56/.223 and 7.62/.308 cartridges. The reticle features a 0.5 MOA dot surrounded by a 5 MOA circle, mil-based ranging features and windage hold points. The D-EVO utilizes minimal rail space, is waterproof to 66 feet, and is backed by the Leupold Gold Ring Lifetime Guarantee.

Features D-EVO
  • Diamond Coat 2 Scratch Resistant Lenses for Maximum Brightness and Resolution
  • 6061-T6 Aircraft Quality Aluminum body

First time in 25 years I haven’t owned a Harley

Have had a Harley as long as I can remember, more than a few over the years, my 2016 road king is now gone in a trailer to bike trader. Reasons obvious, outsourcing to Thailand, their goal of converting kids into the sex they are not, ect. The whole thing really is damn depressing. But I guess this is what they wanted when you hire a German environmentalist as the CEO of what was arguably the most American Company on the planet.

SOLD Leupold DAGR (Dual Aperture Gunsight Riflescope) - $3,800

Up for sale is very lightly used Leupold DAGR (Dual Aperture Gunsight Riflescope). These set-ups have quite a bit of history behind them (our very own Lowlight did a review on these back in 2012 right here on the ‘Hide). I’ve included some information below but there is a ton written about these that a simple Google search will show you. Only produced for the civilian market in a very limited run they are a bit of an oddity and fairly scarce. These were priced in the $4,500 range on Midway for the very short time when they were available. It would make a great add-on to anyone building a reference rifle. Kit includes everything that was delivered from Leupold including the Berry-compliant carrying case and all instruction manuals.

$3,800. I will cover Shipping/Insurance in CONUS. Please feel free to reach out with comments or questions. Thanks for looking! Note: PayPal FF or payment terms can be discussed.

Some History:

SOCOM ECOS-O optic contract awarded to Leupold and Aimpoint

Apr 2, 2013

According to a SOCOM spokesperson, the ECOS-O is intended to satisfy the operational need for a system that will allow SOF operators to engage targets in close quarter battle situations as well as providing a long-range high-powered optic system to engage targets at the full range of the weapon system's capability.

ECOS-O combines the Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44mm riflescope and an Aimpoint Micro T-1 (2MOA) mini red dot sight into a compact, night-vision compatible riflescope scope system. The device fulfills the requirement for an environmentally hardened sighting system that offers unmagnified targeting from 0-300 meters and magnified targeting from 300-1000 meters. The system was primarily developed for use with the M4/ M4A1 Carbine and Mk17 SCAR, though it can also serve on the M14, M16, Mk11 or Mk12 rifles.

The ECOS-O contract was originally let as a 5-year, $49.9m solicitation in August 2012. Since, the contract value increased $1.6m dollars and was split into two awards: $42.8m to Leupold for both illuminated and non-illuminated reticle versions of the Mark 6 3-18x44 riflescope with accompanying mounts and $8.7m to Aimpoint for Micro T-1's with accompanying mounts.

SOCOM has so far spent $27,104 on 10 units for user assessment and operational test and evaluation prior to their full rate production decision. The scopes and sights are due to be delivered May 23, 2013.

Leupold originally submitted their Dual Aperture Gunsight Riflescope (DAGR) in response to the Navy's solicitation. NSWC Crane liked the the Mark 6 and the Micro T-1 configuration, but chose to replace Leupold's secondary optic mount, made by LaRue Tactical. Instead, NSWC Crane will source a T-shaped bracket for the Micro T-1, along with the Micro T-1 itself, directly from Aimpoint and assemble the ECOS-O in-house.

Leupold submitted a Mark 6 variant, designated M5C2, featuring a lowered, zero-stop elevation turret and reversed focus knob. The turret knob was made shorter than the commercially available M5B2 version so the 12 o'clock-mounted secondary optic could sits as close to the main optic's boreline as possible without the turret obscuring use of the secondary sight. The 12 o'clock mounting position was a specified requirement. This configuration has a Horus TReMor2 milling reticle in the front focal plane.

While the Navy took the lead on this project, ECOS-O will be fielded by all four services through SOCOM.

Leupold will perform their work in Beaverton, Oregon, while Aimpoint will perform their work in Jagershillgatan, Sweden.

Leupold's Press release:

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Leupold& Stevens and Aimpoint® are pleased to announce they have been awarded five-year contracts by the U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division for Enhanced Combat Optical Sight – Optimized (ECOS-O) systems.

Leupold & Stevens' $42.8 million contract calls for the longtime supplier of military optics to provide Mark 6® 3-18x44mm riflescopes as the base for the next generation of integrated optical aiming systems for modern small arms. The Oregon-based manufacturer will also provide Mark 6 Integrated Mounting Systems (IMS®).

"This contract award reflects Leupold & Stevens' tremendous commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to the U.S. military," said Kevin Trepa, Leupold & Stevens' vice president of global sales and business development. "Smaller, lighter, faster—and with more power—is now a reality."

The ECOS-O project integrates the Leupold® Mark 6® 3-18x44mm riflescope with the CQB-proven Aimpoint Micro T-1. With an overall length of less than 12 inches and weighing just 34.2 ounces, the ECOS-O system delivers an incredible field of view and rapid target acquisition at an unmatched length and weight. Adjustable diopter and variable 6X power magnification allows the operator to adapt the optic to any condition encountered in the field.

Aimpoint's $8.7 million contract for T-1 micro red dot sights and mounting brackets will go to the Navy Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Ind., where Crane armorers will integrate the system and deliver them to warfighters in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

Built in Leupold's Beaverton, Ore, facility, the Mark 6 3-18x44mm riflescope is the latest in the company's proud military history. Leupold is a leading supplier of long-range optics to the U.S. military and has provided key riflescopes and spotting scopes for all branches since the 1980s.

Description:

Leupold Dual Aperture Gunsight Riflescope (DAGR) provides a solution for rapid target acquisition and engagement from CQB range to 1,000+ meters. Combining and fully integrating the durability and service record of the Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44 riflescope with the legendary durability of the Aimpoint Micro T-1 combat optic, the DAGR system stands ready to provide short- and long-range aiming solutions.

Featuring the Horus H59 ranging reticle, .1 mil adjustments, and a locking turret, the DAGR system's main tube also has only a 1.75" optical centerline difference from the Aimpoint T-1.

The DAGR system is fully integrated and includes the 3-18x44mm DAGR riflescope, Aimpoint Micro T-1 combat optic, Berry-compliant carrying case, operator's manuals and reference guide, and a battery.

The Leupold Mark 6 3-18x sets the standard for long range tactical rifle scopes. With the ultra-lightweight and compact body less than 12 inches, it is on average 20% lighter and shorted than other tactical scopes on the market. The robust 34mm nitrogen purged tube creates over 28 Mils of elevation adjustment with the M5B2 Auto-locking, Pinch and Turn 1/10 Mil turrets. The M5B2 elevation turret features a resettable double turn zero stop with a tactical revolution indicator detent that can be felt every 5 Mils of travel to help keep track of changes when dialing for long range. Superior light transmission, scratch resistance and crisp edge to edge clarity are three benefits that you will experience when DiamondCoat2 is coupled with the legendary Xtended Twilight Lens System. Other features of the Mark 6 include side focus, locking fast focus eye piece and powerful 6x zoom range. Covered by the Leupold Lifetime Warranty.

The Aimpoint Micro T1 Red Dot sight is engineered to provide the performance of a full size Aimpoint optic in the smallest package possible. It features a 2 MOA aiming dot, 13 brightness settings, integral Picatinny-style base for attachment to any compatible rail and parallax-free operation. Powered by a single CR2032 lithium battery, the Aimpoint Micro will work for up to 50,000 hours (over 5 years) before running out of power.
