Digital vs. Optical scopes

I am looking at several digital day/night scopes with built in ballistic calculators and laser range finders and am wondering if they are worth it.

I am comparing them to $400-$500 scopes (Specifically an Arken EP-5) and wondering which is the better option.

Currently I am starting from zero, I have no range finder, and no scope and my ballistic’s calculator is on my phone, doing the math, by the time I got the scope plus the range finder I would be close to (or over) the price of one of these digital scopes, which have the added convenience of a built in ballistic calculator to do all the work for me essentially, with the press of a button.

There is an issue though, I really only need the daytime optic, the night vision is nice but I will rarely if ever actually use it and those digital scopes seem to be geared more towards hunters shooting at close range to just a few hundred yards, not someone who wants to shoot out to a thousand or a bit above, like I want to do so I am concerned with long range resolution, would it be too pixelated to see and would the range finder even work correctly at that range?

What is your opinion, are the digital scopes worth it or am I better off with an optical scope and just dialing it manually based on what my phone tells me?

No, an expensive optic is not an option here, I just do not have the budget so the comments saying “get a Nightforce or Schmidt and Bender” are not helpful. By optical scopes I am referring to around $500 or so max. After that I still need to buy a range finder, so that is how they are comparable in price to the digital ones.

(Concluded) Hellinois rifle hunt legal caliber recommendations

new-cartridge-list-allowed-for-illinois-deer-season-v0-xfmosjhkexua1.jpg

The dumb fucks at DNR deemed that these calibers should be legal to rifle hunt deer in the shitty state of Hellinois. None of the commonly used ones because they think those rounds will hit someone or something ten miles away. Deer hunting with rifle was made legal last year and then the dumb AWB was passed right after. I used a Marlin 512 Slugster for the last two seasons but plan on using a rifle this year.

Which calibers from that list would you consider good for a whitetail deer hunt and could you recommend some nice quality rifles that are chambered in your preferred caliber?

Firearms 1917A1 Water cooled - transferable from estate

I've got a local widow with a couple MG's in the estate, so I'm posting here before they go off to a broker or auction. Super nice condition1917 on a DLO sideplate with tons of extras. Tripod and cradle, AA extension and sights, pano sight, belt loader, complete spare parts kit in the case plus extras, 8 barrels (4 06, 2 8mm, 2 308), manuals.

Also there's a UZI registered bolt gun with spare magazines and the original semi parts.

Make an offer at or above wholesale and we'll get a form filed, got a week or so before it gets dumped off to a dealer. I've got some photos on my phone if you are serious and want a look.

Looking for Tikka shooters that load long...

Wanting to try a new action, but for that action I wanted to load the 153 bergers and not have half the bullet stuck in the stupid case. I just heard that the Tikkas dont use small and large actions for the different calibers, and the only thing that varies is a bolt stop and a spacer inside the mag. So I'm guessing, all the actions are of the long variety correct?
So, anyone here choose a long action so that they can load a short action caliber, with large for caliber bullets really long?

Laser vs A-Tip Velocity?

Curious to hear from others who have shot both.

I have a good load with 390 A-tips and picked up some 375gr Lasers for some testing, Thinking I might be able to make up the BC difference in velocity.
I tried some around the same powder charge I was shooting with the A-tips, they shot well but much to my surprise they were much slower, like 100fps slower using the same charge as 390gr A-tips.

I do know my throat is long for the A-tips so I am going to try seating some out far as I can to see if that makes a difference.

Minnesota Supreme Court “Created” Duty to Retreat From Threat of Deadly Force

On appeal, the Minnesota State Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld lower courts’ rulings that a man, threatened by an attacker holding a knife and declaring he wants to “slice his throat,” had a “duty to retreat if reasonably possible.” The courts state that Earley Romero Blevins, the potential victim, failed to retreat. Therefore, he has now become the criminal, facing 39 months in jail.

“Judicially Created”

The high court admitted that this “duty to retreat” is “a judicially created element of self-defense.” It says that it therefore applies to anyone who claims he or she was acting in self-defense by pulling out a weapon instead of running from the scene.

Said the majority in the 4-2 ruling:
