New Build advice

Kicking around the idea of doing a build in 7-08 for the wife. Mainly hunting whitetail, hogs, yotes, etc... but she is also showing an interest in shooting these days and going with me sitting behind my 6.5CM. Most of the time shooting steel and paper out to about 600 or so. I am thinking a Defiance Ruckus in Medium length action and pairing it with a Proof Carbon 22" 1:8.4 twist and slapping it into a lightweight adjustable carbon stock.

I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys on my choices. Also don't quite know what final coating to go on this rig when done or to just get the action in black nitride when I order it and leave the proof as is. Still in the planning phases of this for now but I don't want it to be too damn heavy for her to carry in the deer woods.

Thanks in advance.

Scope mounting question

I just mounted my scope recently, despite some hiccups I think I have it level, but the process made me wonder, why hasn’t the industry made it simpler?

Why must scope tubes be round on the outside? Why not have a machined spot that would interface directly with a scope mount so it would be level the first time every time without having to mess with levels and plumb bobs? Is there something I’m missing?

I saw a few old military scopes that were like that, flat on the bottom. Others that even had the bases machined right in to the tube itself. It seems like a smarter system. Why can’t a modern scope come with an integral picatinny mount for example? Or just be machined flat on the bottom and fit with matching shaped rings?

Velocity variability in factory ammo

I have always been impressed with my Hornady Precision Hunter ammo for my 270 Winchester, but this past weekend I shot with my brand new Garmin chronograph. I was a little disappointed with the spread on velocities in each of the shot groups I took, but I was most shocked seeing a difference of 100 fps between two different lots in the ammo I brought with me. Has anybody ever seen anything like that in their use of precision hunter specifically?

As interested as I am in longer range shooting and hunting, I recognize that standard deviations and differences between lots will be larger than the folks out there loading their own ammo. But that’s just way more than I was expecting!

While I’m at it, anybody have experience with 270 Winchester in federal premium? I guess it doesn’t really matter the caliber, but now I’m questioning whether Precision Hunter is the best load for what I’m trying to do? Or is this just a fluke? I want the best consistency I can get until I jump down the reading rabbit hole…

CFE-P For 16'' PCC

Hello Fellow Reloaders

New to this site. Long time shooter and reloader.

Have built several PCC's. Most are 16' barrel, 9mm with blowback 9mm bolt

Interested in in hearing from any who have experience with CFE-P reloading for PCC's. I'm hoping that with a slightly slower burning powder I can achieve higher muzzle velocity in the longer barrels.

Thanks in advance for advice

Send it/crush it mount

I shoot gray ops scope mount and I’ve always used the send it mounted on the scope mount. When I got the crush it timer I couldn’t figure out where to run it on my rifle. I found using Velcro was the best but not good. I’ve seen a few 3d printed mounts but I feel they would not hold up to prs. I spent about an hour on a Bridgeport today and came up with this. It’s aluminum and super solid.
It’s not perfect but it’s good.

Weaver T-10

Scored a rare one this week. A friend said he had a buddy that had one on his CZ .22 after I told him I was searching 1 of 3 different scopes. He called his guy which had removed it actually for a newer scope. Got it for a good price. No book or box just scope. Has the dot crosshair reticle. Which reticle did the M40a1 scopes have?

Lazy Gen Z

Lot of kids these days have a warped world view. Life isn’t just making tiktok dance videos or whining about Trump in their reddit safe spaces. Hopefully, they learn something going forward in life.

Edit: A lot of kids (especially country side and small towns young men) are embracing Christian conservative values, masculinity, and the nuclear family structure. But a lot of urban kids, especially young women (including small towns) are struggling with pretty much everything. I understand that it’s not their fault but America is one place where efforts do pay off and they need to acknowledge that. I guess the MSM and culture isn’t helping bring this change at all.
