Gun and gear mounting solutions, check this out

I've been on a quest for a while to find some budget friendly mounting solutions for a Secure It wall. The OE has limited options and are overpriced. Well today I was cruising the google machine and hit the jackpot. I thought it was worth sharing here because this source also makes mounting solutions for gallowtech, pegboards, flat walls, grid walls, etc. Tons of stuff here.

Definitely worth checking out - https://hammy3dprints.com/

China Restricts Export of Nitrocellulose and Antimony

We were discussing this very subject in a thread here a couple weeks ago and I maintained that we (the U.S.) needed to do what is necessary to bring mining and production of these items back. That it’s our own regulatory barriers that are the true cause of the loss of almost all domestic production.

China’s Export Restrictions Create Chokehold On US Ammo Market

Posted on September 26, 2024 by The Notorious FDE
654065056046556406.png

The recent decision by China to halt the export of two critical components —nitrocellulose and antimony— has raised alarms within the U.S. ammunition manufacturing industry and among defense experts. These materials are indispensable in the production of propellant powder and primers, and their restriction threatens to create significant supply chain disruptions.
AmmoLand News Continues
As geopolitical tensions rise and global conflicts, like the war in Ukraine, drive up demand for ammunition, the U.S. faces an uncertain future in maintaining adequate ammunition supplies for both military and civilian markets.

China’s Stranglehold on Critical Materials

China’s dominance in the production of antimony and nitrocellulose cannot be overstated. As the world’s largest producer of antimony, China accounts for nearly half of global production and supplies 63% of U.S. antimony imports. Antimony plays a vital role in the defense industry, from armor-piercing ammunition to night vision goggles and precision optics. Nitrocellulose, or “guncotton,” is essential for making propellant powder used in ammunition.
Without these core materials, the U.S. ammunition supply chain is left extremley vulnerable.
In August 2024, China announced that it would discontinue the export of these materials to the United States. This decision follows a series of similar moves by China in June of 2024 to restrict the global flow of critical minerals and materials in the name of national security. For example, China imposed export controls on graphite and rare earth materials in 2023, impacting industries from semiconductors to electric vehicles. Now, the defense and ammunition sectors are bracing for the impact of these new restrictions.

Antimony’s Critical Role
Antimony is a crucial material for the U.S. defense sector, particularly for hardening lead bullets and creating other munitions. The closure of domestic antimony mines in the early 2000s has left the U.S. entirely dependent on foreign sources, with China being the most significant supplier. Recent efforts, such as the proposed reopening of the Stibnite Gold Mine in Idaho, are intended to reduce reliance on Chinese imports. However, these projects will take years to come online, meaning the U.S. remains vulnerable to supply chain disruptions in the short term.

Nitrocellulose and Ammunition Production
Nitrocellulose, another critical component in ammunition manufacturing, has also become a point of geopolitical tension. Nitrocellulose is used in propellant powder and is necessary for both firearms and artillery. Europe, too, has felt the pinch, as European countries rely on China for the bulk of their nitrocellulose imports to supply Ukraine with ammunition during its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Impact on U.S. Ammunition Supply

As China’s export restrictions take effect, U.S. ammunition manufacturers are already struggling to keep up with demand. Many companies report that their supply of components, especially propellant powder, has dwindled throughout the year, with much of the global supply being diverted to military efforts in Ukraine and domestic military stockpiles. As a result, civilian ammunition consumers are likely to experience increased shortages and higher prices.
John Farnam, an industry expert, warns that these supply chain issues will only get worse. Farnam shared insights from his connections in the ammunition business:
“Right now, most components are reasonably available, but that will begin to change soon! Two weeks ago, the CCP precipitously announced that it was discontinuing the export to the USA of nitrocellulose and antimony. These two products are indispensable in the production of propellant powder and primers. There are other, lesser sources, but the CCP has always been the main supplier. I predict significant commercial ammunition shortages, starting shortly!”

This was as almost guaranteed to happen sooner or later and those that couldn’t see it coming were blinded with folly.

New Purchase?

Hey Guys..

I'm looking to pick another rifle but I'm running low on ideas. Precision and reliability are still the main priorities, but I'm open to any ideas and was hoping y'all may know something I don't.

Here is a list of what I already own or have already done extensive testing on, also a few I'm not interested in at all.

Right now the only Large Frame rifle I can think of that would be worth buying is the Geissele MRGG. For a Small Frame the RD-15 LPR, but if I were to buy the LPR I'd probably pull the .223 Proof Research SS barrel and install a 18" - 20" Bartlein in 6ARC.

Anyone know anything about amphibians? I've got a question about a toad...

Just trying to identify this guy I found in the backyard today. My research (https://www.fishandboat.com/Conservation/Reptiles-Amphibians/Pages/Frogs-and-Toads.aspx) suggest there aren't that many species of toads in PA and my best guess is it's either an Eastern American Toad or a Fowler's Toad (I'm leaning more towards the former choice). Truth be told I don't know much about them but have been seeing quite a number of small (around and inch or so) toads hopping in the grass but this one is rather large. I don't have any beef against toads so I'm leaving him alone and letting him do his thing but just curious what I have here.

I'll include some pictures and see what the Hide thinks, before I got the tape measure out, it started backing into the hole and lost about an inch or so I'd say so I'd say it's pretty big in my limited experience:

HK MR223 Adjustable gas port - customize port size

While my HK MR223 runs very smoothly with my 75g3/24.4gr N540 load with the legacy suppressor, it has plenty of gas running factory 55gr bulk ammo.

Fortunately my gunsmith noticed that the adjustable HK gas block can be easily hand-fitted with a replacement gas port made by him. He could not make the new one operable with a hex key, but the slotted should work ok.

You just hold the metallic bolt open, pop out the old one and pop in the new one.

20240925_232149.jpg
20240925_231312.jpg
20240926_213654.jpg

So far the new one still has too small holes, I inted to try out these two port sizes and record the bolt movement with slo-mo to make the best port sizes. Too bad I cannot get 3 settings into it to make:
-non suppressed
-suppressed Normal for my own loads
-suppressed Low for factory bulk

I will probably make it suppressed Normal and Low as I shoot only suppressed.

*****EDIT******
It worked phenomenally well without any modifications, ejecting brass to 2:30 and 3:30 o'clock with the can on. The low setting was very smooth to shoot but still bolt catched onto an empty mag. The normal setting will most likely run the gun without a can.

This is a must have improvement to have if you already have the 2-step adjustable ("Norwegian") gas port as it costs very little.
******

Not all factory ammo is as gassy, but especially the 55gr Geco bulk which I have stacked on..

Looking forward to modding it but getting it tuned will take some trying. I remember 1.1mm /0.043" being just around to get it to cycle with reloads suppressed and 1.4mm / 0.055" to work without suppressor.

I have a flow-through suppressor too but the legacy suppressors are just so quiet and the sound itself is more pleasant while being considerably lighter. They also do not clog since there is nothing airways to clog which on the flow through gave some variance to gassyness. Yes, you can clean the suppressor but it get really old really fast.

ACCURACY INTERNATIONAL BOLT ROLL PINS

1) Does anyone have the exact sizes? Might need to do the entire optimal headspace shebang and remove both the ejector and extractor. Figured I’d order a few spares.

2) Is the bolt epoxied in place?

EDIT:

The extracter is easy, just get a flat head screw driver that's the same width, push against it, and lift it up.

3) How does one remove the extractor?
