    Tomorrow I take delivery on my first Live 5 axis milling center. I once never imagined getting to this point. Now its the eve of it actually happening. We have one particular job in store for this beast, but more will come.

    I'd like to thank all of our clients who are truly the folk that made this possible.

    Hell yeah Chad. Much deserved! That's going to take a little getting accustom to for sure - in a good way.
     
    The machine was but one part of this. We also updated our entire CAD/CAM system. Our setup now has full integration between SW and MCX2019. This version has full live 5 axis ability and lives inside SW. Powerful for us because it allows for immediate design changes while avoiding reprogramming down time. Provided one builds the model correctly and uses proper machining strategy, the entire process will automatically update the tool paths each time a revision is made. The added bonus for us is the simulation package that we also purchased. This gives us the ability to fully vette a program prior to ever loading a tool in the machine. The obvious reasons being collision avoidance, but also a sort of "preanalysis" of the process to make sure we actually get what we want.

    I can't count the thousands of hours this will save. Pretty cool stuff. It also makes it possible for family's of parts to exist with one single model. This trigger guard for instance now covers 7 different actions with ONE single edited dimension. I can't describe how good it feels to finally have this.

    Looks like I might have a JOB for you very soon. Maybe looking to re barrel my 2 barrels on my HS take down rifle that you put threads on several years ago.

    Seriously though, congrats! That's a huge leap right there, and I'm sure it'll be a massive gain in productivity for you guys!

    Were on a 400 amp service. I am officially tapped with this addition. 70a drop was installed Monday. We took Friday and moved 4 machines to make room for this thing.

    The staff kicked ass. 4 machines, over 32,000lbs, moved with a set of machine skates and a 6000lb fork in under 10 hours. Having almost every bench in the place on wheels was a big help.

    -7*F today if I read the forecast right. We got snow last night as well.

    Moving a 19,500lb ice cube into the shop should be a party. Kinda glad its arriving late afternoon. I'll crank the heat over night to thaw it out. My shop has radiant floor heat. Great till something like this hits the floor. It's slow to react.

    We were actually able to keep all of our existing equipment. I was planning on getting rid of my little Kitamura, but it'll be nice to literally have a spindle all to myself again for the odd ball stuff and for making fixtures, whatever. So much of this trade (at least when you attempt to go at it the way I have) is about solving little problems along the way with tool making. For me personally, its often more challenging/rewarding than actually building the rifle.

    Awesome machine and the possibilities it allows you. I'm excited that the LRI keychain with integrated bottle opener can now be a reality, although the ashtray idea cracked me up also.
     
    Does this mean now we will get those Rem bolt handles you teased us with?

    LRI's new 19,500lb refrigerator...

    A balmy -9*F this am with 20-25mph winds. At least the snow quit last night. This almost didn't happen today. A good stretch of Wyoming got shut down and the driver was stuck for a good part of yesterday. Took him forever to get his air brakes working this am.
