If the Remington MSR, winner of the PSR solicitation, was given the designation “MK21” wouldn’t the ASR (Barrett MRAD) be given a different designation, such as Mk21 Mod1 or Mk22 (as shown on the receiver)?

Is there a precedent in US small arms procurement where two different platforms in different programs were given the same exact designation?

Wiki Remington MSR, and it’ll also show Mk21.

@AIAW don’t you own a Mk21? Lol

Plus, I’m sure you’re beloved Barrett wouldn’t jack that up on a $16k+ Kit ?

Roger that, I do.

My understanding is that the Mk21 designator was carried until the contract “officially” expired, then Mk22 was assigned. Confusing as that’s typically not done.

I mean does it matter? Didn’t the contract get cancelled already?

Oh yeah, cancelled hard. Remington really fucked that one up nicely.

After about 300 rounds through mine now I can say officially that the Mk21 is a nice rifle (after all of the stuff I went through in my thread above that is). I don’t have enough trigger-time on the MRAD to make a call there, but lots of people really like them. The one I fired seemed rather smooth.

No the Barret PSR got shitcanned as well

Oh, that I haven’t heard about... I know it didn’t make it in 2013 but last I had heard it won earlier this year.

Do you know what happened?
I could be mistaken but I could have sworn I read somewhere. i tried the google but couldn’t find anything so it’s likely I may be speaking out of my ass.

MRAD cost about 6K you buy 2 barrel kits 3K . So 9K buys you the bulk of the kit, is the case, mags and tool worth 7K ?

The only possible changes that could've been made, was going from a 300NM to 300PRC... Doubt the whole weapon system got canned. Especially this early. But who knows...

The civilian version at $6145 is much different from the $16670 MK22 Deployment kit. $500 Pelican 1770 case (not $200 1750); custom case interior; the three barrels have the AC338 muzzle brake adapter for the Barrett suppressor; includes soft case, precision rifle sling, suppressor cover all by Tom Fuller's Armageddon Gear; vertically adjustable butt pad (in addition to cheek piece); long promised toggle bolt disassembly; captive bolt pin; 15 magazines; parts kit; cable style cleaning kit; rigid cleaning rod; two bore guides; 10MIL scope rail vs 20MOA civilian; fixed 2.5# trigger; Cereokte #190 finish on rifle and three barrels; heaping measure of Tacticool.....and Chris and Ronnie Barrett's retirement installments....:) :) :) Not an apples to apples price comparison.

Yes the kit is way cool no doubt about it , would love to get that case with the tray in it.

You also get M-LOK on the MK22 rail instead of the proprietary accessory rail on the civilian MRAD. A 4" rail kit on Barrett's website costs $80. Looking at the picture, it looks like it comes with 2 in a kit. I would estimate that you would need 9 of the 4" rail pieces to fill out the whole rail. So that is a $400 value right there.

Is there a commercial version equivalent of this that doesn't include the markings and all the extra kit?

Can you just buy an MRAD in say 300 Norma in the same color with the same mlok rail and folding stock? How much would that be?

In the Barrett MRAD sticky thread, I recall someone mentioning that they got word that Barrett would at some point offer the standalone civilian MRAD with mlok, but no confirmed timeline.

Not sure about the color, but I would make a wild guess that the exclusive "SOCOM coyote brown" color won't make it over. However, FDE is currently offered.

Yeah, I can live with the color not being exactly the same and of course the markings. I just want it to look the same as the Mk22 Mod0 in terms of dimensions and features.

Unless Barrett is going to offer the Mk22 Mod0 as a standalone rifle in one particular caliber, minus the extra barrels and other extras - if they did that, and it was priced like the other MRAD folding stock versions, I'd be all over that, but I'm guessing that isn't likely?

It will happen eventually

Will the M2010 still remain in service for regular Army snipers? Is that going anywhere? Or is this Mk22 Mod 0 exclusively for SOF?

Thanks.

I spoke to Leupold on the phone yesterday - was asking them if they had any plans to release their Mk5 5-25 that won the Army contract for the MRAD to the civilian market - they said no, but that could always change.

Aside from the color, are there any other differences between the .mil version and the commervial ones we can buy now?

Only that mlok isn’t available yet for civilian. Still keymod or whatever their proprietary system is

Barrett made 100 of the MK22 "Deployment Kits" (full military system minus the scope and suppressor) available through EuroOptic. They also made available through EuroOptic 10 of the MK22 "Test Rifles" in .300NM (no other barrel kits) that includes a hard case (the standard Barret MRAD case - not the MK22 Deployment Kit case), and two magazines. I purchased one of these for $5999. The MK22 maintenance kit (new version) and cleaning kit are available through Barrett. Barrett does not currently sell the additional MK22 barrel kits but the newer MRAD barrel kits will work (the barrel part number starts with "18"). I picked up the .308 24" barrel kit on sale for $1250 from Barrett. Big Daddy Unlimited looks to have the best prices on MRAD magazines (the 300NM and 338NM use the same magazine). If you ask nicely Armageddon Gear will sell you the soft case they make for the MK22. I have one and posted pictures in the Barrett MRAD sticky thread.

Would be awesome to not have to go through the cost and clusterfuck of attending shot for a “chance” to get one.

It peeves me that companies make a product then artificially keep supply crazy low to drive the market value up. How hard is it to paint or anodize a scope.

It’s like how geissele only recently released NSN ACH URGI chRging handles, before that people were selling $75 charging handles for $250 on the secondary market.

I don’t hate capitalism, but this stuff is just silly. Superior defense does it, slingster does it with their m-81 limited edition slings. Instead of producing quantities to meet demand, they produce scarceness to create demand.

For that price it needs to include the NF ATACR 7-35 in the tanodize color as part of the kit.
