Wednesday morning wake up before heading to work. She asks if "I'm gonna give her a sexy time?" I do.
Go in the bathroom after to take my morning constitutional glance down and the water is red.
Huh? That's not right. Flush say nothing. I've never experienced this before.
Get to work feeling fine and handling some busy work. Stop to pee, looks like a red cross donation. Not pink, dark red.
Go about work, pee again, no better.
Tell the boss I'm leaving early. Stop by the nurses office, who happens to be my girlfriend, yes the same one from this morning... I get the "why didn't you tell me this morning?" thing.
Waste time at a "on call" walkin clinic. End up in the ER Wednesday night.
Blood work, Cat Scan and now a mass in my bladder. Get admitted, surgery Thursday afternoon. Sporting a catheter until at least monday longer if the bleeding doesn't quit.
Waiting on pathology in 5 to 7 days to see what's next. It is what it is, and I'll deal with that once it's time. Been down this road before with testicular cancer, 14 years ago...that's when I became halfnutz.

Biggest bummer is that I was supposed to be at the Frank and Marc 3 day Precision Rifle Course in Iowa this weekend.
    Maybe next year.

Will say a prayer for you. Get well.

After you are up and about after your surgery, you need to get your butt to the nearest/best cancer center you can find. Your FP will give you a referral. Bladder/renal cancer is a sleeper cancer that is very difficult to keep subdued. Local docs are great and all that, but the oncologists at cancer centers have seen thousands of patients with your Dx whereas your local docs have probably only seen a handful of patients with your type of cancer in the past year(s). Additionally, the cancer centers have infinitely better communication systems and diagnostic tools than a local hospital and are on the cutting edge of treatment plans. All the docs that treat you are plugged in real time to what other doctors are Rx-ing and reporting, not so locally. They are also on salary and aren't pushed to see x number of patients everyday. You cannot underestimate this advantage.

I lost my FIL to renal cancer 2 years ago. He was treated locally until my wife convinced him to go to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. At that point, he realized he was losing the battle and we got there too late. I am sure if we got him there when he was first diagnosed, he would still be alive. My brother, a pulmonologist, would ask every time we talked how my FIL was doing. I asked why he was always asking after months had gone by without any indication the disease was back. He replied that renal cancer has a very, very bad habit of returning with a vengeance. He was right.

The fact that you had testicular cancer before along with this mass makes it suspicious that there is a connection and you need some serious doctoring to beat this but you need to be treated by the best of the best. Please discuss getting treated at a cancer center with your girlfriend and doctors. You are willing to pay and travel to work with the best shooting trainer. Consider doing the same with your health. Best of luck with a successful outcome.

Thanks for all that. So far they have told me bladder cancer, if that's what it is, is commonly reoccurring.

Pretty much why I posted here, seems to always be somebody with experience regardless of the topic.

Aside from the catheter I'm doing fine and it's but an annoyance.

Best of luck, mate. Remember….attitude makes the difference.

Living/walking around with a catheter in, and a bag strapped to your calf ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. I know about this, I've done this twice already. More than a week, each time.

Pissing 'red' is one thing, pissing blood is a whole other kettle-of-fish. Very surprising when it happens, and more than just 'concerning'.

Get on top of this as best you can, and continue to be WITH us.

A buddy of mine that had prostate surgery said his doc gave him a prescription for some suppositories that had opium and belladonna in them. He said that it really helped with the discomfort from the catheter they left in him. I didn't even know that they used beladonna in any prescription medications.

Fingers crossed for transitional cell bladder cancer - its the most treatable type. Very high cure rates. Fingers crossed.

Edit: cure rate when confined to bladder 96%, when it has spread past bladder 5 year cure 77%

Like others have said, keep searching until you find a good doctor you get along with that deals with this routinely.

My Dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer over 30 years ago. He has had an excellent urologist that successfully directed his care for nearly that whole time (that urologist recently retired). He has had a couple of surgeries and lots of monitoring. But he has led a happy, full life for all of these years, and is still going strong.

    Thoughts and prayers.

    Prayers from me and mine.

    Where in IA are you?
Tumor and CA care at both IA city and Nebraska Med Center are really darn good.
worked at NE med center for 3 yrs. impressive place.
Iowa born but living in Illinois since I was about 19 or 20. Iowa city is only a couple hours for me. I have till the 27th for pathology reports to really figure out what we are dealing with. It's strange but all my blood work has been normal.

So sorry to hear of this, man. Sending prayers your way. Keep your faith strong and head up.

You beat something like this once before and you WILL beat it again!

Kidney stones suck balls but probably not on halfnuts level of misery.

That said, kidney stones have put me on my hands and knees a few times. Face down once / e-room.

Reminds me I promised a hoist for halfnuts.

    Prayers must be doing something.
I have gotten my biopsy and other test results back. I have not talked with my urologist yet.

    Non malignant.

Benign urothelium with chronic inflammation and blood clot.

Doesn't seem to be cancerous. Thank God.
Still need to figure the rest out and get back to normal.

Thanks all for the support! It means alot.

Ha. Thinking I'm gonna keep my bladder as long as possible.

The "mass" was removed Thursday. It was about 2cm on the cat scan but in reality was mostly a blood clot and tissue according to the pathological report. My bladder was "distended", being closer to a 2 liter than normal. Pissing is now an extreme sport, hopefully for the short term.
