    These fucking idiots don't stop.

If you want to piss away four plus years of your existence and pay $100k to do so, that's fine and fucking dandy. But don't think for one fucking second that you are entitled to the earnings of someone who made better choices than you.

college tuition only go to the price it is today b/c of govt subs. Not to mention, the generational "you HAVE to go to college, or you'll be flipping burgers your whole life" mindset, all but forcing kids to go to college and ignore the lucrative skilled trades. Now everyone has a bachelors in whatever, so they have to go get a masters to apply for the same job. You want to excel and move up the ladder? Now you have to go get a doctorate in that field. Not to mention the dumb ass majors that exist and would never translate to the real world. Nobody cares about your masters in lesbian interpretive dance studies. i hear they're hiring at the lesbian dance factory down the street. If my son wants to do something that requires a real degree, then he will go to college. Other than that, he will go into trade school to learn something that he can one day become his own boss, or first go to the military. If you asked him right now, what he wants to be when he grows up, he'll tell you a Navy SEAL b/c he wants to jump out of helicopters and blow stuff up. At least he wont be in $100k debt trying to do so.

Forgive the loans my ass. When I bought a car, I got something for it...a car, and I knew Id have to pay it off. If I bought a POS car thats my fault, if I paid exorbitant interest rates thats my fault. I dont expect anyone to forgive the loan. When they got a degree they got something for it...a degree. Why should that debt be forgiven and my car loan not. (hint: because slick politicians want to buy votes)

They should have studied something besides sociology or basket weaving.

I *do* work for food.....pisses me off when I see signs from folks saying they'll "Work for Food".

That said the current group of folks who paid too much for a college education had no clue that their $100K education would barely get them a $12 an hour job in an America where wages have stagnated and the cost of houses, cars (educations) and food has doubles or tripled while wages have gone up 30%.

They got fucked by know nothing parents and councilors who simply did not get it that not everyone was meant for college and now days the best jobs do not require college...electricians, mechanics, finish carpenters, etc.

Do we wonder why college enrollment has been plummeting now for years? It doesn't pay out in this economy unless yer gonna be a brain surgeon or a lawyer. Yet millions of kids are graduating college $100K in dept with skills that will earn them a job that won;t even make the school loan payment let along a car and a house. They got fucked - the money to pay off their debt should come from those who done stole it and profited and mis advised them/profited from their expensive education and pending life long misery.

Not me - I paid for my college in 1976 with cash from 3 jobs I worked.

You went to college with cash money from working 3 jobs, in 1976, but by 1979 you were homeless living out of a car?

    Bullshit

Remember the late 70's and what to took to get a $7.00 an hour full time job?

I sure do remember the late 70s. I remember my father being shit out of his plumbing company, by his slick assed, college educated partner. Long story.

If you had drive and skill in the late 70s you could make a living. My father did it in spades, with a 3rd grade education.

Your story still isn't adding up.

I wish America had some form of compulsive national service.

It could take many forms and have different degrees of reward.

For example military service would be an option with better benefits than a less committal type service.

Then ask about going to a college.

Used to be vets got the good jobs, not as much these days.

Too many liberals in positions of importance for my liking .

And that's the nicest thing I have said about the sorry little shit ass libtards in a long time.

    @Huskydriver

At least you can take a joke, last guy I dropped the cut your hair gif on got all butt hurt about it.

Naa nothing you can say to me Uncle Sam hasnt already advised me of. I had Monday morning inspection short hair for most of my life. Decided this year for fun to try and grow it out... It's been epic and don't know if I will keep it very long but I have the hair of a Greek god and I know there is someone out there who will love this magnificent mane when I cut it to donate it

Before the military I had medium long hair. Got to the military and could not wait to get it cut to fit in.

Got out of the military and tried to grow it out. Felt like a freek and have cut it since.

I have a kid in college, I convinced her to do her first two years at a community college and then apply to a 4 year. I spent roughly $12,000 for her Associates degree. Now I am planning on spending about $26,000 for her next two years to get a Bachelors. She is living at home while doing this so not paying ridiculous room and board fees.

Is her degree going to be worth the $38,000 I am paying for it? Probably not, but she is very immature and at the very least this is giving her something to do while she grows up a little bit more.

That said, I agree spending $100k on most degrees is not worth it these days, especially if you have to do it on loans. I am not sure how the majority of graduating high school seniors think this is the right thing to do

The student loan crisis is just another symptom of how stupid people are in today's society. I remember when my daughter was a senior in HS and all her friends were bragging about I got into this college I got into that college my college is better than yours neener neener neener, what-the-f-ever, they all laughed at her for going to a community college. I told her to just wait, she will get the last laugh when all of them have $100k in debt and are waiting tables because they can't find a job ;) At least one I know of dropped out with 2 years worth of loans, ouch that has to hurt.

I believe the movie Idiocracy will come true

Stephanie will be starting community college this fall for the same exact reasons.

Her POS father blew a gasket when she told him.
She held her ground and he whined and bitched to Rebecca about it.

Stephanie isn't mature enough (17yrs old) to attend university yet. She's had her operators license for a month and just got her first job yesterday.

University would just be a huge distraction because so many students just want to party.

With CC, she'll be living at home and we'll be able to monitor her work and grades.

Worked my way through. In 1976 the cost of going to s state school was affordable. I remember the recruiter saying $1600 a year, cost me about $2,000 a year. He was a lying cocksucker.

Why do I keep hearing Edgar Winter Group "Free Ride" when reading this thread.

I just had a thought....why don't we have the universities who benefited from Congress giving everyone loans so they could jack up their pricing, pay off the debt? They can definitely afford it.

    Hi,

Full ride to LSU as International Student but left after 3 semesters because I got a great offer to join the USN which fast tracked my Citizenship.

Fastest way out of student loan debt......learn some hard languages (Not the typical French and Spanish crap) and the Government will reward you for having that ability.

    Sincerely,
    Theis

A green card carrying resident alien till I joined the military myself.

Got to America when I was 4 so never considered myself other.

    Texan by choice.

May be the fault of the folks who took out loans, but when the majority start to default or just walk away from the loans, thats now the American public's problem.

The govt did a great job of messing that up.

I had to swim the big pond and did stop at a checkpoint to get deloused.

It has been a privilege to serve the military and defense industry all my adult life.

"To uphold the constitution of the United Sates of America and defend the office of the president"
    With my last breath.

I still consider it a privilege to live in America since I traveled with the military and have seen other countries.

Thanks in advance for not throwing me out.

We have went from send us your huddled masses to eff our laws cross the border illegally with your huddled asses.

they did it on purpose, ready made political dependents. , trump is failing, he needs to cancel all taxpayer subsidies of student loans.

Oh ya back to the student loans.

My son married a girl with massive student loans and a useless degree.
    But they paid them off.

Now off to get a nursing degree at least that is in demand.
    Pay all that as well.

And for the ones that don't pay?
    They just get off free?

Not fair they should never get a tax refund till paid.

I think it should be a question on all job applications.

Have you defaulted on a student loan to get the degree you now tout as qualifications for the job.

I forgot to add to my above post that I started a 529 fund for each of my children on the day they were born.
I put money into that fund at every opportunity to give a gift per American tradition (birthdays, Christmas, etc, etc) and had relatives put some in as gifts as well (every little bit helps at ages 0 to 10 as it grows over time)

That said, the money to pay for my kids degree is NOT coming from any loan of any type, its coming from good planning and making use of a tax advantaged account. I guess this can be seen as a handout, but I see it as me making better use of tax dollars that would otherwise go to something completely stupid. ;)

(but I do realize that 529 accounts add to the problem of the govt giving colleges more money than they deserve, similar to the loans)

At our company picnic one of the gals in the office introduced her son and said he was a big fisherman and wanted to talk to me about fishing. I shook his hand and told him I don’t talk to long haired hippies about anything. He laughed.

"Used to be vets got the good jobs"? WTF does that even mean? Come out of the service with useful skills and demonstrated leadership and you will. Don't and you won't. Being a veteran entitles you to nothing but whatever GI Bill was available at the time and maybe some VA doctor.

    I am a veteran.....BTW

Fastest way out of student loan debt......

Is to incur none of it

Bachelor of Science in Engineering: USNA, room + board + tuition = $0, employment = guaranteed

Masters in Business Administration: State University as a working adult. Tuition = $0 (paid by employer due to job performance)

Work hard, work smart = get money

I was drafted, and the GI Bill denied my scholarship.

I was looking for help with a CLU course (Chartered Life Underwriter); denied because I already had an Agent's License...

Not even vaguely the same thing.

    Assholes.

Fuck them, I made it well enough anyway on my HS Diploma. My employer, Prudential, set me on my course in DP (now called I/T).
