R700 ADL to BDL/CDL conversion?

I'm looking to get some clarification from some gunsmiths on the possible conversion of a Remington 700 ADL to BDL or possibly CDL. I'm looking to buy a .270 ADL along with my sister to give to my brother-in-law as a birthday present before hunting season starts. It will be his first rifle to own and the budget isn't endless on this gift so the ADL is the choice of the rifle being purchased and I'll be throwing on an old Redfield 3x9 scope I haven't used in years so it's ready to go for him. Is there anything different between the ADL and the more expensive BDL/CDL rifles other than the bottom metal/floorplate, trigger, and stock?

If in the future my brother-in-law decides to upgrade the rifle would doing the ADL to BDL conversion from a place such as Brownells and finding someones used BDL stock essentially provide him with a BDL rifle or is there more involved with the bedding, lugs, or anything along those lines? I'm trying to look ahead and gather up information on the a conversion such as a Timney or similar trigger and possibly a stock in the event that during our hunting trip this year he finds things he'd like to adjust here and there.

Thanks

Short answer is "yes".

I did it just last year. It's quite easy to convert the ADL to BDL. You do not have to change out the trigger to convert it, though if he does want to change the trigger, any normal R700 replacement trigger will work.

A conversion to BDL requires a new stock (or mill out the current stock to accept bottom metal), the BDL bottom metal of your choice, and a slight length modification to the magazine well insert to allow room for the BDL plate. You may have to buy a $4.50 front base plate screw from Brownells if yours doesn't fit. That's the cheap and easy way.

Anything he wants to do afterwards can also be done, the limit is just time and money.

Thank you lash. That helps in knowing what to expect and that the ADL action can still be used as a good base to build on if he chooses in the future.

Many a person here has purchased the black Friday sale Dick's special R700 ADL just to use the action for a custom build.

The terms are usually loosely thrown around but the all ADL, BDL and CDL came with and without iron sights (prob not relevant). For stocks I prefer the CDL stock with the straight comb and Remington Supercell recoil pad. The BDL is usually fancier with fine walnut, raised comb, gloss, but has the plastic butt plate. For bottom metal you can just scour for a LA takeoff with action screws. They are all considered BDL hinged floorplates.

You can find all of the things you need on the bay or here in the sale thread. Just have to make sure everything is for a Remington Long Action(if getting a .270). It is all bolt on and should not need a smith for anything (unless you proactively want to bed your rifle). If you pursue an aftermarket trigger (timney, jewell) you may need to do a small amount of inletting.

Is there a drop-in conversion for the .270 sportster ADL? I want a composite varmint stock upgrade but they all seem to be only for BDLs. It was the first rifle my wife bought me and I’m sentimental.
Thanks - KʘLʘ

Just drop the barreled action and trigger into a BDL stock, add a BDL floorplate/trigger guard, magazine box with spring and follower and your ADL is now a BDL.

A million years ago I bought a 700bdl la and put it in an hs precision stock. Just recently put it in a bravo. If you want my bdl stock and bottom metal just pay the shipping and it's yours. I still have the original trigger if you want that too as i put a timney in it.

Do you know the model number of the HS...? I'm looking for something like the PSS134. I have a similar one on my 6.5 PRC and fell in love with the feel. Thanks KʘLʘ!

Anyone try this drop in?

***Edited - I just realized they don't have a 270 version in stock

It's the bdl stock that I might still have the Hs precision stock I bought in 93 and dont remember the model the hs precision stock I definitely threw away as I had bedded it for my action and I damaged it so figured no one would he interested in it.

Fuck just realized this is a fucking necro thread

oh - I had to google necro thread but didn't realize either it was a dead thread
Thanks for the advice anyways
If you are trying to put your Adl in a stock and have a detachable magazine look at the krg bravo. If you put your action in it it comes with the detachable magazine metal already there so you dont have to buy a stock and separate bottom metal

Thread wasn't dead, just old. It was pertinent to your needs, so resurrecting it is why it is still available. You got necessary info and some help, so it worked out. 🍻
