So what’s this AI?

AI posted this on Instagram. Sure looks like a short action. What forearm is on this AX?

At first I thought it was the Victor Company, but the shape is off and it's missing the QD sling hole

No @canezach it is not a victor company rail. That is an ASR fore end on a AX. The monolithic upper rail and one piece machining is the give away. Team AI guys like Scott and Rhett have them.

I have asked AI a couple of timesif they are going to make them available to the public and the answer has always been “not at this time”

why put it on Instagram then. To brag to guys like us that want but can’t have? It’s like teasing a kid with candy. Hey look what I have .... you like it? Well too bad...

They should just put that rail on the AXs and make the grips interchangeable and call it a day and quit playing with us.

I agree that it's a weird marketing play.

AI: Hey, this is what our "pro" shooters are using, it's the kit they use to help them be successful in the PRS.

General public: That's awesome! When and how much money can we give you to replicate that setup?

AI: No thank you. We would rather not give you what we are giving our "pro" shooters.

Do youself a favor and buy @samb300 AO AI chassis forend.

Really, that’s what you take away from that? I can guarantee you that their intention with the post had absolutely nothing to do with showing off the rail and everything to do with showing off one of their team shooters at their match that they go through great trouble to put on. That pic was taken at THEIR match last month and if you bother to watch any of the AI classic promo videos from over the years you’ll see that he’s the guy in all of them. It just so happened that’s the way he configured his rifle for the match.

He’s had that rail since the first initial batch from where they were made for the ASR solicitation. It’s called R&D. Would you sell a prototype first run product to the mass public to test, or would you give them to your team shooters to test? Hmmmm.

Perhaps once they actually have the AXSR rifles flowing through to the market and aren’t having to allocate parts to rifle production they’ll offer them for sale as a separate part. That’s what they’ve always done before.

On another note you absolutely can buy that rail right now if you really want one. It won’t be cheap, but it will come with a free rifle in a very nice case/kit combo with 3 different barrels, and a bunch of cool other stuff in the form of an ASR kit.

Also wrong. If you want it, pony up the cash.

I'm okay, but thanks. Not an AI guy myself.

I can see how it would be annoying for some AI shooters to not be able to purchase the rail. The AI models certainly have a few less then desirable design aspects in regards to PRS/NRL shooting, with no desire to cater to that market (unless you're one of their "pro" shooters I guess).

Thankfully for AI shooters, I think @samb300 nailed it with his forend for those that use AI's for PRS/NRL use.

And we will be able to once they can actually produce enough parts to make the AXSR rifles and get them to market and then make surplus rails. What part of that is so hard to understand? Just because a company makes a prototype run of something does not entitle anyone who may want to purchase one to the rights to do so.

I want one as bad as anyone else and I’ve known about that rail for a long damn time and you don’t see me complaining. It’ll get here when it gets here.

If that's the case then that's awesome for AI shooters. From what others were saying, AI stated that they had no interest in selling just the rail.

I don't know what is true. I don't own an AI, and probably never will so it's inconsequential to me. But if they do start offering the rail, then I think that's great for AI shooters.

I’m not sure where you’re getting that they said they wouldn’t sell the rail but that doesn’t make sense. They’ve sold AX forends in the past as parts, so once they can make plenty for rifle production, and make extras then why would they not sell something that consumers want to buy?

In the mean time, no they’re not going to take a rail out of inventory that’s needed to complete a $9k AXSR in order to sell a $500 part to someone that just thinks they should be able to buy it. That would be stupid. It’s also not the only way to get an ARCA rail on an AX, you can accomplish the same thing with a Victor Company forend or by running a HRD or Sawtooth plate on the stock forend.

The ASR rail won’t work on the AXSA nor AXMC. The bolt spacing is different.

What the AI team guys have are one off rails “R&D” produced just for the AXSA

Again, the ASR rails are not compatible with the AXSA and AXMC so they wouldn’t be taking one out of inventory. It is a separate part all together.

I agree though that they wouldn’t want to take up machining time to make ASR rails for AXSA because they already have AX rails in inventory.

I don’t know how much R&D needs to be done for a forend with an arca rail.

Incorrect. The hole spacing is the same as the AXSA forend. The difference is the ASR uses an SAE thread pitch because that’s what the ASR solicitation called for. When the accessory forend becomes available I’m sure AI will include those with the rail.

Cory is correct!

We will be releasing tubes for legacy rifles and AICS’ once ASR and AXSR production is fully caught up!

I understand it can be frustrating to see a new product that fills the void. We have to test said product to make sure it’s 110% good to go for you guys, before it gets released.

There’s info posted in this thread that came directly from the people who build the rifles and ran the solicitation, and there’s even pictures posted of actual ASR rails (yes they are) on AXSA’s.

I’m gonna side with the people who make the things, the physical photo evidence, and the fact that I have actually seen the rail in person.

Ok. So when I tried to check compatibility, it was on the PSR and that was a no go. I though they used same dimensions.

I just checked on the AXSA, it fits. Guess I was too lazy to check it on that system to begin with 🤷‍♂️

MLOK is still gayer than aids....

I don’t disagree with that MLok gay as aids comment! That’s what the military wanted though 😅
