Please don’t get me wrong I do not have virgin ears, and I can cuss like a sailor. But, what I have a hard time with is hearing people in our sport talk about the lack of young people getting into the sport.
When I listen to podcasts and the constant f… this and f….that, I am embarrassed to recommend these podcasts to young shooters.
Sometimes I wonder if the producers of these podcasts set around the dinner table and talk to their wives and young children like this?

I just finished listening to Phil and Kaylin’ podcast and they played a soundtrack of Kaylin teaching. In the soundtrack he said “pin the f…n trigger to the rear.” If that is how he teaches all his students, I would not recommend anyone send young shooters to that school for classes.

Ok rant mode off.

When I pay for an instructional class I’m paying for the knowledge being taught. Not whether or not the instructor is speaking eloquently or not.

Some people have never had a DI scream in their faces and it shows. 🤦‍♂️
You can have the smartest person in the world but if they are not a good teacher they simply are not good.

When I was younger I competed in a particular sport. Everyone wanted to go train with world champion athletes but there were more than a few that would get frustrated and lose their cool with students. As athletes they were great. As teachers they sucked horribly bad.

I've never had a DI scream in my face and that is absolutely NO WAY to judge pretty much anyone, especially on any kind of civilian level instruction, at least not in this scenario. With the exception of me enrolling in a class where I expect that to happen (motivational/weight lifting/etc) I would never have anyone treating me like that especially if I am paying for it. Truth is many of the concepts out there whether it be for a large variety of sports or not are all nuanced and technique driven. With that there has to be a level of understanding.

While I totally get it--- someone explained a concept to someone else for the 17th time--- then losing their cool. Totally understandable. I would do the same thing. But just as a general rule a good teacher won't do such things until it's needed for him/her to do that.

Just as a general rule though, if you are hoping to conduct a shooting class for a bunch of 16 year olds from a church camp, laying off of the F's and GD's is probably a good idea.

No where did anyone in the comments above say anything about anybody losing their cool. Somebody had a problem with swearing. That was my point.

And dat's the fucking truth! haha

Obviously never been on a military firing line eh haha...

I get it tho there is a time and a place and how you choose to speak says alot about what you value

Huskydriver nailed it. One has to be aware of the company you are with. If I go to someone's house for Christmas dinner and I start dropping F bombs in front of their grandma then yes. I too have a problem with swearing. If however I am hanging out with the boys and we are doing our thing then that's a different situation.

My whole point is to be aware of the situation. A good default mode is to generally avoid going on full blast until you are certain that it's ok.

Also cant believe the rampant cussing. I RO a bunch and also shoot a bunch and love to bring my sons to help out and watch and learn (age 5 & 9).

I dont believe in the "do as I say not as I do." I truly believe our kids will do as we do. Its that simple. Large % of the population too lazy to be a good example and wonder why the country is going to shit. sad.

Someone told me once, those who cuss have a poor vocabulary. I have never forgot that and have tried new words since.

I hear what the OP is saying. I shoot steel challenge sometimes and a guy brings his 10 year old daughter sometimes. Everyone talks like they normally do and no one sees to care not even her dad. I clean my act up when she's around like a normal human being should do. I have a 5 year old and when she starts shooting steel I'd expect everyone to not act like animals.

The current youth are exposed to TONS of fucked up stuff on the internet at an early age. I don't think Frank's podcasts are in the top 50% of offensive things they'll hear. No offense, Frank :ROFLMAO:. Honestly, when adults started speaking freely around me as a kid, it made me feel like one of the guys instead of something they had to tip toe around.

It’s like many things. Make it taboo or off limits and they are more likely to seek it when u r not around. Allow them to express themselves freely and know that if they drop an occasional f bomb it’s ok it will lose its luster. I do my best when young kids are around, but I fuck up a lot too.

There is a time and place for what like to call "Emphasizing Language" it is used for instruction to drive a certain point home. Again, Time and Place. Using it in every sentence it losses it foot stomp value. But just like follow thru pinning that fucking trigger to the rear. I'll remember that for sure.

"swearing" is just a manner of speaking anymore.
fucking trigger is the same thing as dang trigger. i understand that some folks are not accustomed to that manner of speaking...
maybe you just have to adapt and overcome?

anyway, if somebody suggests that bad language is a sign of low intelligence, they just aren't very smart themselves. sorry.

If you happen to be in a local McDonald's or Burger King after the near by high school has just finished a foot ball / basket ball / soccer game and a crew of 13 - 17 year olds mob in..... Just perk your ears up and you will learn how the language is in their world...
Like the comments above, I spent my life in industrial construction and I've heard it all. I still have the ability to clean up my language. In fact, I can get more attention and things done without the cussing tirade.... A changing world, and not for the better.

i think the expletives have lost their punch because they are part of normal vernacular for so many now...
but if i hear somebody yell "fuck!" in the other room, i might rush in to see if they need help. if they yell, "darn it!", i am not.

Hell, on just regular tv stations i hear, “shit” “god damn”and other profanities, you would never hear the 20 years ago on tv.

I dont think podbean or apple would published the un-abbreviated version of the word.
They might think of it as the Just Function Send It podcast.

How the heck does anybody refer to the key with blue lettering without sounding like you're cussing?

(To all who who read not just @BLKWLFK9)

I have to say that I remember all the other kids cussing from middle school on. They talked worse than happens on podcasts in the school halls. I graduated HS in 05 and expect it's gotten worse. There was also all kinds of pda in the halls and even crazier things that you heard happening. I know that crap has gotten worse.

If you're worried about kids hearing things, they have definitely heard it all before. One thing that I've heard some good dads that I respect is they teach their kids what all of the words mean in that situation (when you have a chance to maybe review it later) and the choices they are making in that choice to use those words or phrases. They also say that you can make that choice later when you can understand and take full responsibility for those choices. It gives you an opportunity to talk and teach your kids something, for you to stand up and be a parent.

Dont shelter your kids but also don't let them run too free. Knew lots of kids that were sheltered and went crazy later.

The word fuck can be used as a noun, verb, preposition, even adjatiave. Ie; “fuck the fucking fuckers.”

The young kids who people are concerned about, hear more swearing at public school and amongst their peers then you probably wish to know. Then, there’s the internet…
i wouldn't be too worried if i had young kids and heard them say the f-word.
on the other hand, glass bottom boats and alabama hot pockets would worry me. 😂

oh and if you didn't know already, middle school kids are doing butt stuff with girls so they don't get pregnant.

If you have to say a swear word to get your point across, that person likely lacks the intelligence to produce any words larger than 4/5 letters anyway.

I don't care for it but I certainly chuckle at all the cavemen dropping F-bombs at classes, matches, etc. Good way of attracting new shooters with the lack of vocabulary.

Caylen is one of the most intelligent, introspective people I have met in this sport. If he was dropping the f bomb, you can bet he had evaluated the situation and was comfortable with it.

Example, if teaching a class of young military guys, you can have entire conversations using nothing but the word fuck, and it will be understood and accepted.

It's kind of basic social skills. I know many of us lack in that area, but most of us learned in what situations to use what language early on, reference the bar of soap example above.

Having said that, when I left the military I had to work hard to recalibrate my language to polite society. 😂

Hang on a minute ...

Caylen is like the new-age hippy of the shooting world, with all that meditation and sh*t.

If he's the bad guy now, we're not in f'n Kansas anymore, Toto ...

(PS It's all good, Caylen knows I love him.)
