Asking for some input before I fully mount and sight-in my new scope to my ar10

I have a NF ATACR 7x36-56mm
Spuhr 4006 mount 1.5 height (may be a tad high for this gas gun but I’m sure it will be fine. I bought this scope and spuhr for my AI-ATX that I still don’t have in hand).

I am gonna set focus/diopter via the PSA sticky thread

So, getting to my questions:

I want to try and use speed dialing method per Frank’s thread “Finding your speed drop factor”

I am hoping I can use this scope to do that, but I am confused on how I should set my zero to use that method

An excerpt from the posting states that you have to go below zero

BDC Reticle

If your scope is capable of dialing under your zero mark or you can set your zero stop lower, you can dial your scope DOWN your drop scale factor. In my example, I would dial my 10mil per revolution turret down to 7.5 which is 2.5mils below my 100yd zero. Doing this makes the reticle a BDC reticle for the ranges where the drop scale factor works. If a target is at 575 yards, we can hold over 5.7mils. A target that is 800yds is an 8mil holdover. This works for the entire range where the drop scale factor is used.

How would I do that on this scope?

Next question:
Do I really need to use a rosin gripping agent on the spuhr rings?? I don’t ha e any and don’t think it’s necessary but want feedback please

Final question:
This scope is a demo store
Model I got from EO. Should I dial top turret to midway elevation and see if zero stop works before I sight in and use ammo?

I don’t have a bore sighter. I can call around and see if a gun shop can bore sight it, but I figured it may be best to assure this thing don’t have the issue where the zero stop don’t turn right.

Below pic shows bell height with this 1.5 mount (might be a little high but I get good eye placement on my stocks adjusted check piece

Appreciate the feedback!

I recommend spending the $15 to Just scoop up a laser bore sight so it speeds things up for you.

1. 1.5” are usually a great height for gas guns
2. You don’t need rosin for rings and if you do, buy new rings. Any good quality rings shouldn’t need it.
3. You need to determine you drop scale factor first. The Kestrels Accuracy 1st feature can help with that. For example 2.5mils. By doing so that turns your reticle into a BDC of sorts and allows you to hold your reticle in line with the corresponding distance target. (I.e. 3mils = 300yds or 5.5mils = 550yds)

Thanks for the reply. I realize now this post was kind of rambling across many different areas. Seems silly now to reread it. Your 3rd answer is in my things to do area still. I’ve slowly got myself to getting my 2 guns finalized in regard to reloads being set in stone and my ladder tests/fire forming sessions. All that stuff.

So, I have not been shooting past 200 yards even months later

Had to send gas gun upper back to get freebore changed

Finally got my at-x back In April and it’s got all my attention. I ended up buying a ZCO 5x27 for it and actually remount it on the ATX today. For it I went with the SP-6602 spuhr with 20 moa front ring slope.
