Rifle Scopes Scope selection process?

For "universal scope" I would not want fine clicks. You only need fine clicks if you're shooting benchrest or possibly F Class where minute adjustments may be necessary, but for an all around scope, standard .1 mil will get you on target for anything sizeable that you would be shooting. Even many ELR shooters use .1 mil. Just my 2 cents

aha, ok.
I assume that this scope is for anything, from f-class to tactical. so clicks should be between 0.1MIL and 1/8 MOA, and to be metrical (european), only 0.05MIL is option. 0.1MIL is too much, imho.
but if someone want to have imperial units, 1/4 MOA is just between 0.1MIL and 1/8 MOA, so 1/4 MOA should be perfect for both worlds.

The other reason I like the Vortex is the VIP pricing, very hard to beat at that price. I like the MK5s too but they do not resolve like the other 2, but again, hard to beat them on VIP pricing. I am also a fan of the PR2 reticle.

So if you can get VIP pricing from Vortex, that would be my choice, prob the best bang for the buck in that class.

If you can get VIP on Leupold and Vortex, you should be able to get a discount on most brands. If the company is not on Expert Voice, reach out to the company to check. Some companies prefer to keep their discount close to the cuff. I can only think of a handful of optics companies that haven't offered a decent, if not generous discount for the usual groups.

One "itty bitty" reason contributing to my selection of the March, is they have accessory threads front/back, where I'm ordering MC UV filters which will go on permanently front/back, leaving the glass pristine from the day I get the scope. I can clean the protective filters if they ever need it, leaving the glass itself untouched.


BTW: Using plano-parallel Schott glass/99.5 % transmittance and multi/anti-reflective coating, the filter factor from a B+W or Heliopan filter will be so low as to discount it.

After reading through all of the replies, studying specs, online reviews, and videos, it basically came down to two choices:

March FX 5-40 GII, or
Vortex Razor 6-36 GIII

...and in the end, I ordered the Vortex.

I'm sure I would have been quite happy with any of the scopes discussed, but the nod went to the Viper because, honestly, it was ~$1000 less than the March. The warranty also helped.

Good choice, the March G2 locking turrets blow the Vortex G3 turrets away, but the Vortex G3 glass is a step above the March.

I belive that may be 5-40 is better edge-to-edge clarity if 5-42. I learned something about my March 5-42HM.
Many thanks to Yasutoshi Nishikubo who re-adjusted my scope. After re-adjustment my scope is brilliant No more paralax finkiness and picture is perfect I have pictures before re-adjustment and after.

I spent many days and evenings to testing it side by side with S&B PM2 5-25,Hensoldt 3,5-26, Minox 5-25 and Wortex Razor AMG
Testing tables i set up in 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 500m and 600m.
Wortex was the worst

I dont think it is fair to compare scopes with realy wide and narrow FOV and say that narrow FOV has better edge clearity; that's phisics I think.
