For "universal scope" I would not want fine clicks. You only need fine clicks if you're shooting benchrest or possibly F Class where minute adjustments may be necessary, but for an all around scope, standard .1 mil will get you on target for anything sizeable that you would be shooting. Even many ELR shooters use .1 mil. Just my 2 centsjust yesterday I did a research of the most universal scope, if I want to have it only one. for tactical and precise bolt action rifle.
and it should be 0.05MIL clicks (because of fine increments for precise, and MIL for tactical (US people can maybe use 1/4 MOA clicks because you are use to it)), FFP for tactical, high magnification, good glass, good reticle.
It's certainly cheaper, but if you read the previous posts, the Burris XTR Pro gets a lot of positive comments.if you can, put them through your hands and eyes. so you will see visual and mechanical differences.

Absolutely agree on looking through, and given the option I will certainly do so. But around here, there are really only a couple of options:"If that's a reasonable assumption based on more experienced eyes... it's worth exploring."
Just like any optic anywhere, lenses, scopes, whatever, their performance is going to be filtered through a second optical system/the individual eyesight of the beholder.
The closer you are to 25, w/20-15 vision, w/no astigmatism, not color blind, or you're older and you've had a complete evaluation of your eyesight, the more willing I am to trust what you see not just what you know.
The problem w/having a problem w/your eyesight is not having a reference to compare your eyesight with and over time, you'll adjust to bad eyesight or whatever problems you have and this isn't me guessing, I went a month w/my right eye corrected w/an implant before I did the left eye and before that, my vision didn't look that bad, and of course after the surgery the vision in my left eye looked like SHIT.
Bottom line, which has been said before, if at all possible, nothing is going to beat what you think of these scopes after you've looked through them no matter w/anybody else sees.

If you can get VIP on Leupold and Vortex, you should be able to get a discount on most brands. If the company is not on Expert Voice, reach out to the company to check. Some companies prefer to keep their discount close to the cuff. I can only think of a handful of optics companies that haven't offered a decent, if not generous discount for the usual groups. The other reason I like the Vortex is the VIP pricing, very hard to beat at that price. I like the MK5s too but they do not resolve like the other 2, but again, hard to beat them on VIP pricing. I am also a fan of the PR2 reticle.
So if you can get VIP pricing from Vortex, that would be my choice, prob the best bang for the buck in that class.
Good choice, the March G2 locking turrets blow the Vortex G3 turrets away, but the Vortex G3 glass is a step above the March.I'd like to thank everyone for taking time to reply. I appreciate all of the input.
After reading through all of the replies, studying specs, online reviews, and videos, it basically came down to two choices:
March FX 5-40 GII, or
Vortex Razor 6-36 GIII
...and in the end, I ordered the Vortex.
I'm sure I would have been quite happy with any of the scopes discussed, but the nod went to the Viper because, honestly, it was ~$1000 less than the March. The warranty also helped.

what about DOF and paralax finkiness?Good choice, the March G2 locking turrets blow the Vortex G3 turrets away, but the Vortex G3 glass is a step above the March.
The edge goes to Vortex G3what about DOF and paralax finkiness?
I belive that may be 5-40 is better edge-to-edge clarity if 5-42. I learned something about my March 5-42HM.
