So nice Sunday afternoon came up on the hill and shot some 223 then got my 6.5 out. I screwed my suppressor on and shot 10 shots gave the barrel a few minutes to cool and my next shot was a lot louder than it shoulda been. Sure enough end cap is fucked my question is what the hell caused it?

The primer was hit off center by the looks of it, causing the projectile to veer off course.

I’m messing with you. Hopefully you figure this one out. That sucks.

What is your mounting method?

Did you get a baffle strike?

If you shake the can does it rattle at all? Wondering if was the jacket separation.

Did you hit your target?

Possible the bullet came apart. Was there anything foreign that could have possibly been in the ammo? Tumbling pins?

Did the rounds hit the point of aim. That would tell you wether the bullet blew apart or not.

Direct thread
Not that I can see
There are some pieces floating around in there. I shook em out so what’s in the pic is all that’s loose inside the can.
Didn’t see impact but it was at 1K with a soft berm

Do you torque the can on with a wrench at all?

Did you check it to see if was tight after the 10 shot string?

Good chance the round came apart if you were shaking copper and shit out.

1:8 twist

Just cleaned that largest piece of “debris” in the pic and it’s copper jacket.

What’s the mark on the rear of the case?

Ejector mark and it flattened the primer.

No I usually go bout half grunt tight
No

Stupid question; but I assume this can has been on this rifle before?

What goes on the threads when its not the can? Another device being screwed on and off? Possible debris/interference at the barrel shoulder, causing misalignment?

Definitely could've just loosened after the first string. I dont think direct thread is the next greatest thing, myself. All I can offer though, I'm not familiar with the particular bullet in question

Yes
It gets a can put on it anytime it leaves the safe
It definitely could have just never had a problem with that so I usually don’t check mid string but going to spot check from now on just to make sure

Yeah the keys don’t look like they’ve got any chunks missing so should be able to swap out the end cap and be good. Just has me a little puzzled
Looks like you might have gotten a small baffle strike in the upper-right hemisphere of the keyway in your picture, but I don't think that will cause any issues. Might just be able to replace the end cap with a new one, and you'll be good to go.

I would check with @Mageever and the guys at Dead Air first. They'll be able to tell you a more accurate recommendation as to what your next steps should be.

Also, make sure your KeyMo didn't come loose. One time, my KeyMo DID come loose while shooting, and I got a few baffle strikes on a nearly brand new Sandman-S MIL Contract can. Luckily it was just soft-jacketed .300 BLK subsonics, so it didn't do any damage to anything, just shaved a few slivers off the bullet. I didn't even notice until I shot and it sounded weird...Like a weird ricochet/cable-snapping sound, and the bullet hit the ground WAY in front of the target, like 125 yards in front of the target (I saw the dust). So I stopped and checked the can, and it was loose! Never had it happen before, and never had it happen since on a gun. And I know I tightened it down 100% on the gun. Don't know what happened, but sometimes fluke things like that happen. Luckily I didn't have any damage at all, just had to knock the can on the bench a few times and let the lead shavings and chunks drop out the bottom. 😂 It's been good to go ever since. 👍🏼

If your first 10 shots were fine and the 11th wasn't, then it was likely a jacket separation or the can loosened during the first string. If it was the latter, it should have obvious immediately upon removing the can, and since the OP didn't mention that in his post, I'm assuming it wasn't something that was observed.

I'd still recommend checking the bore alignment after the can is repaired, but I'm skeptical that this was a factor (particularly with ~0.050" nominal radial clearance).

Is this just something I should expect at some point? I'm closing in on 13k rounds through my first form 4 and not had it happen yet.....just inevitable? Shoot Berger and Barnes.

I don't know if you should expect it but its always possible. When I had a jacket separate my shot was so ridiculously off target I immediately stopped.

The can also made noise when handling it. Took it off, shook the shit out, inspected it, put it back on and was good to go. No damage.

Not really related but do you know the original weight of your silencer? I would weigh it and see how much it currently weighs. Might be time to clean it.
