My cousin just grabbed this off a proxy bid auction. I can get it for 6 clams. I like it; but don't necessarily need it.

It looks very well put together for being sporterized. Not bubba, someone with a mill. Haven't pulled the stock yet. Haven't shot it yet(this weekend hopefully). Serial puts it at 1944 production I was told, I haven't checked myself.

Rifling is strong. Chamber and action are clean, no burrs, scratches. There is one ding on the stock.

It has Jaeger sling swivels, nice leather sling, traditional wood stock, it looks pretty good. Muzzle crown is perfect. There are no markings on the barrel though. 30-06 was the listed caliber, confirmed with 06 ammo.

The scope I've never heard of. "Eagle"20220405_214735.jpg

Is that a Kmart special or decent for the time period? The scope will probably be set aside and replaced. Its pretty dim, maybe just dirty. It has a Williams peep sight and a white tipped front blade.

The 1903 Springfield pattern of rifle is foreign to me. I've no experience on them. Just handled a few surplus ones 12 years ago or so. It's not what I want, I'd rather have a mil surplus. Not a sporter. But it seems very well put together.

I suppose it all depends on how it shoots. Main purpose is large game in the Midwest.

What do you guys think if it? I'll post some groupings and how shooting it goes.

    That's a beauty.

Every 03A3 that I have ever shot did well.

30 years ago I had a friend that picked up a sporterized 03A3 that had a bedded stock and a Timney trigger. We made some loads using Hornady dies and a Lee press. The longest range we had access was 100 yards back then but it would print sub 1" groups as long as your shoulder could stand the recoil.

That's one of the cleaner sporters.

Its value is worth every bit of $600 but the market will only buy it for less.

Great looking deer gun from an age before people got tacticool.

If what you want is a milsurp buy the milsurp.

You will never get your money back on that ne but it may give you good memories if it becomes a hunting rifle.

Thanks! Yeah I figure the market is slim on sporterized 03's. We shall see how it shoots.

I'm not sure. I don't think so. I could not find any info online.
Also I didn't have time to go shoot, but my cousin shot and said it's a tack driver. When I shoot it I'll update with pictures of groups.

That stock looks identical to this one. Nice moose and cannon!
I may still try to pick it up the rifle as long as the price doesn't change haha

Looks to be a Fajen, possibly a Bishop.
Both made economy sporter stocks inletted for pretty much any military barreled action you can think of back in the day when sporterizing milsurps was still a common practice.
I have one that is identical in profile on a custom barreled Jap T38.

Believe both are Fajen. Probably late ‘60’s to mid-70’s when they style was “in.”

Off the shelf stocks for 03’s were a land office business for Fajen.

    Sirhr

Yeah I'd like to get hands on the rifle again soon. I'm hoping to disassemble and get better pictures. Maybe there is more stamping/info on it. And I need to get some good ammo. I guess it shot the 180 core lokt really well.

What about this one? Don’t know anything about it

If the price is reasonable, and the receiver has not been altered for that ridiculous scope mount- I would buy it, remove the mount and find some original sights for it. They are fun to take out and shoot.

Well he's holding onto it for me to buy. I'll get it for what he's got into it. $650
I think it will be a great hunting rifle. I don't have (blasphemy I know) a 30-06 caliber rifle, so this will be a nice addition. I will post groups when I get it.

I think there should be a hide attorney that draws up wills. The older generation can hand down their heirlooms to the younger hide guys if their kids are liberals.

That's an awesome-O idea... But we've been over this... Stop calling them liberals... They're not... Please refer to them as, Marxist pigs, fascist rats... Either or. Do not engage in their nameplay..

John Adams was a liberal...Jefferson... Names such as these. ...not...., Clinton. ... Obama... Biden ... Think of it...
