That's also pretty common here in the US, as well. When I was an EMT, our rigs had "AMBULANCE" spelled backwards on the front. This, of course, so that it could be seen as "AMBULANCE" in the rear view mirror of a car in front of us... in the hope that they'd recognize that we were trying to get by them and they should "PULL OVER!"

But this is not a mirror image, it's just backwards. Of course, like most of the boobs in this thread, it's not real. :D
(or an ambulance)

This man was in an assisted living facility. He was Marine Corps during WWII. When his time was up he went to the Air Force. He said he thought it would let him travel and get to go to a bunch of air bases around the world. I asked if he enjoyed it. He said "oh yeah, they gave me a place to live, fed me, put clothes on me, and even paid me! It was a great life." I think he was in the military for over 30 years.

We were not notified of his passing. We would have went to his funeral in uniform of course.

fathers uncle was joined the army at 15 for WW2 got caught during basic..army told him navy will take anyone right now (this was shortly after pearl harbor)

turned 16 in basic, was then on the NJ in a 5" mount

after WW2 his younger brother was drafted in the army for korea so he said he'll go and watch over him

dumped his rank in the navy so they were together

he used to say he wasnt sure what was worse sweating in a floating target or sleeping in a "fucking hole filled with snow"

...all he did was talk about the New Jersey, had tons of stories, models all over the house, pictures

wife used to yell that he loved that boat more than her, hed answer your right.. old school marriage lol

It seemed like every time my cutter was leaving San Diego there were 18’s taking off from NAS North Island. Almost invariably the pilots would decide to have a little fun with the Coasties, you would see them level off about 20’ off the runway and go wheels up. They would barely clear the fence at the end of the runway and go by us at almost eye level then pull up hard or make a hard left over the ship channel to avoid a vertical landing on Pt. Loma. I’ve seen 18’s flying low enough to blow spray up off of the water.
