The "Official Shortage Thread"......

Cars are weird right now. They can’t make enough to meet a lowered demand, lol. Plus, I’m afraid they may cut the big V8’s from the line up in the next couple years.

GM could make enough Camaros to meet demand, but they won't because this would mean fewer trucks and the latter makes way more money than the former.

Last I heard, the Camaro is done sometime in the next two model years. Honestly, I'm surprised it hasn't gotten the axe already. We'll see what happens as GM goes through its transformational changes/death spasms.

From the standpoint of CAFE, the 2026-up regs will pretty much ring the bell for "affordable" high-perf cars.

It is not just vehicles... Look at weapons, Gold Eagles, Tires, Meat, riding lawn mowers, "T" post....
American's are spending money they either don't have or did not work for.
The US Government is spending money it does not have.
Why is our tax money going to "feed the children" ? All the way back to The Garden of Eden, a parent was responsible for feeding it's child. simply a "Law of Nature".... When a country that was once a world leader begins to ignore the Law's of Nature, it begins it's downfall.

Ran into a guy I went to high school with at Sam's club. He works in the meat department and he said he couldn't believe people are still spending money the way they are. Said they are busier than ever and doesn't understand where people are getting their money.

Another item that is a victim of Bidenflation is EMT, electrical conduit. Over $7 per 10ft tube at the local home despot. That shit used to be less than $2 per tube.

I know a number of people who got significant (> $100k) ppp loans. Those were totally free money.

I know of 2 multi million dollar companies that received BIG money from the Covid loans. Neither company used the money for its intended use. One company is owned by a family and that money was divided up from parents to all the children and not 1 cent was used to bolster their company.

The other company is solely owned. This gentleman used all of the money to buy a huge yacht and pay for mooring. Not 1 cent was used to bolster his company.

I also know of a small 1 man business who didn't qualify but somehow got a ton of money, since he never stopped working, he wasn't eligible for the money plus the size of his company wasn't large enough to qualify either.

Yes, but LOTS of free cash whether it was needed or not. Just needed to show you had payroll or certain types of expenses.

The ones that used it for what it was meant for is long gone. The other ones that took advantage of the system pissed it away like bullgear mentioned.

The one company I know that got PPP money used it to pay staff to basically hang out during the forced shutdown (so they wouldn't quit and get the extended handout) and to pre buy inventory that they would have bought months later. They kept most of the staff. Some quit and went for the extended handouts, which paid more Im sure. The raw materials they bought went up 20-30% between the time they bought and would have normally bought so that was a score and put them in a good position once they opened. IMO they did use it for what it was meant for but Im sure no doubt they were widely abused.

I don't know of anyone besides the usual people on welfare. Where is all the other free money getting handed out that you guys talk about?
Every piece of Legislation that Congress passes has "free money"... Hidden in plain sight..... If you are doubtful, I will post some of it. One man could spend an eternity locating and documenting "free money". I'm working on my homestead and don't have time to chase that info and if I did the politicians will just roll their eyes.

Yeah, I remember a few years back, those late night infomercials "Buy my book, the Government has free money to hand out, I've done all the research and put it in this book". I guess now you don't even have to buy a book, it's all on the internet now.

And the Government is giving free computers to school children so they can follow the bread crumb trail or giving an IPhone to illetirate parents so they can apply for free _________ (fill in the blank)..... A free phone is the same as free money.

"They’re taking coal plants offline," Trotter said.

"There’s this focus on a much more long-term solution to replace it with renewables," he added, but argued that those solutions are "years or decades away from being able to replace the coal."

It's always a motivating factor moment when the light switch is flipped and the light's don't come on.....
Suddenly the cost of electricity, what fuel powers the generator and the condition of the grid really don't matter to a screaming wife and crying kids waiting on breakfast.

I'll tell my grandbabies to tough it out.
That's what I have been telling my children for the past 50 years. Now I tell my Grandchildren the same thing... My son tells his children the same thing... Recently my son told me "I'm starting to sound more like you, every day"... This is not a bad thing.

Sometimes I just shake my head... Price for a barrel of oil ran up over the long weekend.

The European Union on Monday agreed to ban most Russian oil imports.... Hmmmm. So, what are they going to do for oil ?

Today the FTSE is up
FTSE 100England+7.60+0.10%
The CAC 40 the DAX and the Swiss are down... Go figure

CAC 40France-93.59-1.43%

DAXGermany-187.63-1.29%

Swiss Market IndexSwitzerland-136.93-1.17%

England has North Sea oil... Now the rest of them will be paying England more for oil than they were paying Putin... LOL

The asshats getting the money would not come sweep the floor for an extra 2$ per hour.

They make more stealing and grifting than that.

Took advantage of current low prices and actual availability, and put another 10,000 BF of lumber into the stash.

I don’t think I have much room left to store anymore, lol. Plus I’m tired of sorting and returning the shit lumber for replacement good lumber. Of the last 30,000 BF I’ve put away since January, 15% was returned/replaced due to being so bad that I couldn’t use it.

I feel better now, and now have enough to build whatever I may want to over the next 5-10 years. Now I sit and wait for the new construction crash so I can scoop up some builders on the cheap.

Builders will be knocking on your door after the first of the year. You may have to go get their tools out of the pawn shop after they hocked them to buy the kids Christmas gifts.

I have tools they can use.

I need to get some sheet rock, OSB, and MDF added.

This morning I was in my local Super 1 grocery store in the Bitterroot Valley, Montana. Photo is a view of the isle / shelves where the plain old white sugar is kept.

Best stock up.... When you are down to boiled dog meat, this sure helps the flavor.
I'm down to sauces and spices for extended outages. Sriracha is high on the list. Between that, salsa, and Louisiana hot sauce I think I am covered. Going to need it for sure if rice and beans becomes the number one menu item.

An interesting time to be negotiating a contract..... If the workers get 10% they will just break even with inflation.... If the Company gives less than 10% the slow downs at that port will continue on....
_________________

A crucial port workers union is shifting a planned work stoppage to daytime hours June 20 at the already-congested Port of Oakland in California, just days before the expiration of the union’s contract.

This will hurt.
I associate with some folks in the manufacturing industry. They are now quoting shipping cost to their customers and giving them the option to pick up their LTL shipments. Many are sending their own truck (or a contract hauler) to get their shipment. Trucking companies are now changing the codes, for many reasons, on shipments and resulting in higher shipping charges. Watching some of the local cow hands with a gooseneck cattle trailer pick up different items on the back haul from the stock yards.... I have seen it all before... History repeating. During the oil crisis individuals would set up a "Hot Shot Rig" and were running 24 hours a day.... Making good money. Shipping terminal to terminal will also save some time. The frenzy is on to get material before the bottom drops out.
