Best fire starter I use is vaseline and dryer lint.
we were messing with that as well

when he showed me the video i went to my tackle box i had as a kid and pulled my pill bottle of cotton balls and PJ from 40 years ago and it lit right up, was pretty funny

what i saw real quick is the the petroleum jelly by itself while it burned well didn't burn nearly as long as the extra layer of wax

also saw the cotton and wax like a candle wasnt that great, spark would lite the cotton but the wax wouldnt really get going at times

seems that the PJ acts as the accelerant and the wax is the fuel

we had a pile of twigs on the patio

if the twigs were a little damp the cotton "stuffs" without the wax may or may not lite

with the wax added we had a longer flame time which also allowed him to move the twigs around if there weren't lighting

all in all it was pretty fun making 15-20 little fires over 2 days

felt like i was 12 years old again in the woods

edit ....for being a moron and not checking spelling for the 100th time

Pardon... "PG"?

Ever been to Wildwood after the sun goes down? It's been a while, but the last time I was there it was pretty bad. They did a decent job of cleaning up the mess though. At about 10pm the junkies came out. Once you see someone nodding out you start to look for things. I saw quite a few wax baggies and at least a few of those little orange needles diabetics inject insulin with.

Parts of Florida are worse. The dope problem is real and it's all around us if you look for it.

Reminds me of the time I was skiing at Stevens Pass WA in heavy fog. There is one run that goes under a power line, you could hear the crackle from the static electricty. Pretty freaky...

Reminds me of a job in my younger days working in AK.

Boss asked me to take the old truck and go from airport out to our dock at the float plane lake 3 miles away.
Told me to pack a bag and be sure to bring my waders and work gloves.
3 trips filling a converted turbine Otter on floats with construction materials and flying them to a back country hunting lodge, unload and fly back for another.

One of many amazing days in my life I have great memories of and know I am blessed to have experienced.

C'mon guys....give it up....firestarters? Really?
There's better ways to go about it.

Easy ignition, burns at 2650°F, even underwater, it'll get any campfire going.

What? Just sayin'....

I carry a little can of WD40....
The fish oil burns, and if you get even the smallest little flame going - hit it again with the WD40 spray.
The propellent is propane!

And almost every one of us has had to learn the lesson of gas, fumes and explosion. None of us learned the easy way I'm willing to wager.
