Welcome to the 2024 William Buck Memorial Postal Matches!

There are 7 rimfire matches you can participate in,
1) Iron Sight rifle 50 yards*
2) Factory rifle 50 yards*
3) Match-Grade rifle 50 yards*
4) Unlimited rifle 50 yards*
5) Mini Palma for scoped rifles 100 yards*
6) JBell 6x5 Match for scoped rifles 50/100/200+ yards
7) 10-shot rifle 50 yards

*Each match has the same maximum score (200 points), plus X-count to break any ties we may have.

The rules and general info are included and detail each of the matches offered. Each month, please shoot your matches, score your results, record the information at the top of the targets provided and submit your targets to me in this Forum thread. I will post a running summary of the scores for each match, each month, listing all the participants and their equipment.

2024 Changes - Revised rules and new targets for Unlimited, Factory Rifle and 10-Shot are now attached!
Summary of the changes for 2024:
1) Factory Rifle Target is being changed to "freshen" the target and provide a little different bull layout to shoot. Also, a few of the rules for this match have been updated, so check them closely.
2) Unlimited Rifle Target is being revised, with the outer circle removed, and the inner ring now 0.4" diameter rather than the current 0.5" diameter to help challenge the shooters a bit more, since we're seeing a consistent score of 200 for this match.
3) A new match is being rolled out to really challenge shooters. This is a 10-shot match, 50 yards. Very small, single ring bull, plenty of sighters, and scoring will be 10 points for a shot inside the ring (not touching) and 5 points for a shot that touches the ring. 100 point max for this match. Please note that I modified this target to be a little more forgiving. The center ring is now just slightly smaller than the 2024 Unlimited center ring. See the Rev 2 version attached below.

The changes above will all begin in January of 2024.

that looks cool what positions are the 50 yards matches shot from? When you say prone for the 100 yard match do mean with a sling or can you use a bipod.

that looks cool what positions are the 50 yards matches shot from? When you say prone for the 100 yard match do mean with a sling or can you use a bipod.

Sorry if that information is some where I am at my place in northern Maine right now so my internet connection is very slow

Great questions, and thanks for your interest. These matches were initially designed for benchrest shooting. Now, you can virtually use any technique and position to shoot the matches. I did not specify any rest requirements so one-piece, two pieces, bipods, etc., they all can be used to shoot the matches.

Mike7337, thanks for shooting the matches! Please check your targets for me. Any round that hit the black dots on both targets is an x-count hit. For instance, on your Mini-Palma, 1200 yard bull, there is 1x that should be counted. Please check both targets, and send me your revised x-count totals and I'll update your scores.

Thanks - I've been shooting in the Buck postal matches since before Mr. Buck passed away; however, I've been limited recently due to health and other issues. I'm grateful just to be able to get out and shoot. Alas, the forecast high for today and tomorrow is 105F here in north Texas and Sunday is church so it'll be next week before I have an opportunity to shoot again.

Are the 100 yard mini palma targets scored like a regular palma target? Meaning if a round lands in the 9 ring you deduct 1 point, 8 ring deducts 2 points, etc...

If so I think I scored these correctly. If I messed it up let me know and I'll change it and resubmit.

As you can see the wind was not kind today, gusting up to 10-12 mph and switching directions on me. The range was freshly mowed, so I certainly could have used wind flags. The wind really got me on the 100 yard target #3, I kept thinking it had let up when it didn't. But none the less this is a good course of fire.

These were shot prone off an Atlas CAL and a Precision Underground rear bag with my V-22 360 that has a 26" Benchmark 3 groove 15 twist sitting in an ARC Xylo chassis and a Trigger Tech Diamond 2 stage, with an NXS 5.5-22X50 sitting on top. The ammo is a random lot of Center X. This rifle can do much better.

Welcome to the William Buck Memorial Postal Matches!

If you have ever posted on the 6x5 thread coordinated by jbell, this thread will be coordinated in a similar fashion. There are 5 rimfire matches you can participate in, four are shot at 50 yards, and one at 100 yards. The matches are designed to group similar equipment in each match to make it as fair as possible. They include: Iron Sight rifles, Factory rifles, Match-Grade rifles, Unlimited rifles, all shot at 50 yards. The fifth match can be shot by any scoped rifle at a distance of 100 yards. Each match has the same maximum score (200 points), plus X-count to break any ties we may have. The rules and general info are included and detail each of the 5 matches offered. Each month, please shoot your matches, score your results, record the information at the top of the targets provided and submit your targets to me in this Forum thread. I will post a running summary of the scores for each match, each month, listing all the participants and their equipment.

Rules for the matches and targets are included in the attachments.

If you're interested in some friendly competition, please join the fun and shoot the matches of your choice!
