Vortex VIP Warranty I Not Ready For Prime Time

I've bought every kind of scope since 1972, and if you live long enough, you'll have problems with everyone. Maybe it's because I've owned more Leupolds than other Mfg's, but I've also had more problems with them. Their quality is good, but when you have a problem, they get very defensive, so they're service rating is poor with me. I've been buying Vortex scopes over the last three tears and am very impressed with the quality and especially service and tech support. Had a freak lens fracture during mounting process and the turnaround was less than 10 days.

I had a Burris xtr2 a few years ago that one day, I could see an O ring inside the scope, just hanging there…. Sent it back in, expecting a replacement…. What I got was a 4 month wait and a repair. No contact at all on their end to update me through the waiting period.

I’ve always had a friend that sent a leupold back and they took almost 6 months to repair.

That wait time sucks, hopefully it was a fluke. My OG XTR elevation turret wore out to the point it would actually rotate under recoil. I had it back, repaired, in about 2wks.

My complaint with optics manufactures is the lack of communication (except Vortex). I know they are all busy building scopes but really! An email, text, phone call, should be part of every "real" company's code of conduct. We spend our dollars and expect status updates. I can accept even further delays in a warranty claim if they would just let me know instead of making me hunt them down in order to get the info I seek.

For years I heard about the great CS Leupold offered....... every time I've needed support it's taken no less than 4 months and I had to call them to remind them I had a scope in for repair. They finally worked themselves off my list of future purchase providers!

Follow up with a respectful letter of your concerns. I've had zero problems with the Vortex department, great customer service. I had a problem with my spotting scope tripod with a leg extension failure. Sent it in and they replaced it with a new unit, with a quick turn around. I just dealt with them 2 weeks ago, I tried to order a windage cap that was scratched on my Crossfire II rimfire scope. I wanted to pay for it, but I received an email that my order was processed. They sent me not only a new windage cap, but a new elevation cap and a sweet Vortex ball hat.
Excellent company....

I’ve got scopes from a few manufacturers. But, I’m here to say “another day and my vortex is still perfectly serviceable…”

Exactly lol

The fact that everyone has had to use Vortex’s CS is a clue. (Myself included - fool me once and all that)
I have seven Vortex Scopes and have never used their CS. And I am had on my gear. You have issues with ALL CS, because nobody likes you......... ;)

Want to beat your head against the wall? Deal with the KAC CS..... OMG

It is like masterbaiting with a cheese grater........

I bought a Vortex Viper 5-25X50 FFP EBR-7C MRAD from Sport Optics0n June 2, 2022. When I received it the illuminated reticle did no work. Battery was DOA. Replace it with the spare battery it came with. Illumination worked for a little over 3 weeks and illumination did not work once again. Replaced it with a brand new Lithium 2032 battery. Once again lasted a little over 3 weeks. Sent to back to Vortex they repaired it on June 15 and I got it back Jun 16th.Tech report said Replaced illumination chip and battery. Ran several more tests not related to illumination problem. It is now 25 days since the repair was made (just little over 3 weeks again ) and the battery is dead again. To say I'm unhappy would be a vast understatement. Last time I ever buy a Vortex scope. Tomorrow i'lll contact them again and tell them I want a new scope as thy seem to be unable to repair this one.
:angry-cussingblack:

Am I being unreasonable?
I am still trying to figure out how you fit 6 weeks between June 2nd and June 15th?

I burned through three batteries not realizing I was nudging the illumination knob when adjusting parallax - and then didn't "notice" the dimly lit reticle. Now I just remove the battery and will insert it if I need it for some low-light shooting. Really - it's like any other battery device - it doesn't make sense to keep batteries in them unless you use them frequently. I can't count how many Maglites I've destroyed from corroding batteries - and that's after checking on them and putting in fresh batteries annually!

That said - great customer service from Vortex: they replaced one I bought used that had been damaged and got nothing more than a warning note (unknowingly aimed at the original owner!) about over torquing the rings. No problems with the next one other than me killing batteries. My future optics purchases will all be Vortex.

I've got 3-4 Vortex scopes and Red Dots and have been very happy with them. Sorry you must be getting the duds. Good luck in future.

Maybe the third time is the charm! I have 2 Gen 1 PST's for ~ 10 years with the original batteries still in them. Check them once a year to be sure nothing untoward is occurring.

My one and only experience with Vortex warranty was just a couple weeks ago. My 15yo spotting scope got knocked over and something broke loose inside, could hear and feel it rattling around and the view was obstructed. Called Vortex and was sent a paid return label via email right away. After one week a brand new spotter, one model up from my old discontinued unit arrived at the house. No complaints from me, top notch customer service. My next rifle optic will be a Razor Gen iii after this experience.

I do not know how many Vortex scopes passed through my hands, but it is dosens. They sorta come and go, but at any given time I have a few around. At the moment, I can think eight off hand sitting on rifles: Razor Gen3 1-10x24, Gen3 6-36x56, HD-LHT 4.5-22x50, Venom 5-25x56, UH-1, Spitfire Gen2 5x, Micro 3x magnifier, Diamondback 2-7x35 rimfire. I also own two 3-15x HD-LHTs that are currently on loan to a couple of friends. I am sure there are a few more somewhere in there.
As far as failures go, I have used Vortex' customer service twice that I can think of: Diamondback HP 2-8x35 and PST Gen1 6-24x50.

Yeah, but just wait for the de rigueur and abjectly stupid response of "if they made a better scope, you wouldn't have to use their warranty"

Well if they made better scopes, you wouldn’t have to use their warranty.

When people like you say such dumb shit, it just proves you have no idea what you are talking about.

Every brand of cheap chicom/asian scopes will have similar failure rates as Vortex, because they are all made in the same places, same factories to same standards. Bushnell, Leupold, Burris, Athlon ect.

Vortex is bigger than all of those companies combined. They are a billion dollar optics company that is only going to get bigger as they move into military contracts.

The difference is, when Vortex fails or has an issue, or you run over it with your truck, you will have a replacement within a week. No dicking around, no bullshit excuses, no sitting in a parts bin for 5 months waiting for them to get around to look at it. No fighting with CS arguing who is to blame.

Their Japan and US made scopes are among the most reliable and durable scopes you can buy, AT ANY PRICE. They are making the future optics for the US military small arms.

So again, feel free to shut the fuck up if you don't know what you are talking about. Better to be thought a fool that speak and remove all doubt.

So these two companies don’t manufacture scopes in factories in the United States?

Calm down and eat a dick fag boy. It was a joke.

What two companies?

Leupold imports almost everything and assembles some shit here. They got their dicks slapped by FTC and had to remove made in USA from all their shit because apparently having something 90% built in china and then adding some caps and cosmetic shit does not qualify as made in the US. I shoot with their enginners, have friends who work there and live 30 minutes from their factory/HQ. Leupold does a real good job obscuring where their stuff is made and sourced.

Burris like vortex has stuff made in China, Philippines, Japan and the USA. Their stuff made in the USA, you can guess where they are sourcing the parts from, at the price points they sell. Actually a big fan of the XTR3 stuff, so its not a knock against them, just reality. Stuff made in the US sourced from western nations is expensive. Labor to build them is expensive.

When comparing optics, compare the country of origin since alot of these are OEM designs or slight tweaks.

Well that’s interesting.
What about companies like Nightforce or Trijicon? Same story?

I’ll just throw in that you can get pretty much any quality level you wish to specify from Chinese factories. But, real quality costs about as much there as it does anywhere else, so the cost advantage of Chinese manufacture evaporates.
