My grandmother (who was young for her age. She was 14 when she got married to my maternal grandfather, an immigrant from Germany) was an infant during the depression. But she was raised in a house deeply affected by it. You could not have the fridge open longer than exactly what it took to get something.
One time, coming back from the endurance test she called grocery shopping, I left a steak out. I got my ass beat. I don't mean figuratively. And granted, there was a time when I was 13 with no job and I failed to get something for our step-grandfather's birthday (I don't know how, I did not have any money) and she spent 6 hours on the clock (I remember) telling me how I could aspire to one day be the dirt that is below a worm for that oversight. No, I mean, I got beat with a thick leather belt that was so popular during the mid 70s.
So, yeah, I think depression and recession suck. And I cannot make this administration do anything remotely resembling the right thing.
So, I am thankful for anything that I have. I used to work for a company where the boss was so tight, you felt blessed with a Christmas bonus when he said he would see you the next business day. That means you had a job to come back to.
