Are certain Berger Hybrids always difficult to find?

I've only been paying attention for the last year or so. But, in that time, I've noticed people are almost always looking for certain caliber/weight Hybrids. They don't seem easy to find, but I've picked up plenty of 105s and 109s. But I don't think I've seen 140, 153, 180, 215 Hybrids in stock anywhere for more than a few hours all year. At the same time, 144s, 190s, 220s don't seem to sell out. Is this a recent phenomenon, or is that pretty much the status quo?

What you've observed has been going on the a few years now. The 140's are hard to come by sometimes. I'm actually surprised you rasily found 105 and 109's.

Well I've had 230 gr paid for and on order at Eurooptic for OVER 2 years now! So they are kinda hard to find.

It comes down to a few things. 109s and 105s will always be hard due to the demand from comp shooters. There just are not enough bullets to go around.

Some is due to ignorance. Like the 215 and newer 220, which was designed to overcome issues with the 230. People drool over the 215s and skip the 220s which are every bit as shootable with a higher bc and the same performance on game. They just don't know this.

144s have been in stock for months same with 130s if you know where to look.

245s 105s and 109s are by far the hardest to source so when you see any of them in stock...buy as much as you can afford. You will atleast break even selling them if you have to. Better than buying T bills.

Cancel and buy 220s.. they were litterly designed to replace the 230.
I thought the same thing. I just emailed Berger and they assured me the 230 hybrid target is not being discontinued. That being said, I wonder if it's worth running the 230 over the 220 seeing how the bc is the same and the 220 is probably a little faster. The 230 has a good track record though and there's lots of data.

Anything on the upper end of the 30s are impossible to find (230s, 245s). 105s and 109s are always tough. Since Covid hit, when they come available, scalpers scoop them up then put them on GunBroker. The last time Berger put out a run, I thought they might get back out in front of demand because they were available for a bit longer than expected - but then they didn't do another run and now you can't find them, even on GunBroker.

I'm about out of my stash of 230s. When they're gone, I'll likely play with the 230 OTMs until my barrel is done (I have about 700). On my next barrel, I'll switch to 220s.

I've been shooting 250 A-tips since I havent seen 245 bergers in Canada for like 3 years.
I had planned to shoot 166 A-tips out of my 284 after I ran out of 180's but I stumbled on 1000 184's so that'll work.

Berger has ceased production of the 105 Hybrid.
They still show them on their website

I think it is just demand and their batch production.

I order a fair bit of 130s with success, but because I shoot a niche cartridge (6.5G) and not one of the popular/PRS few

Over the last 3 years the demand has been huge. I have moved away from Berger because of the inability to find most of them. I still have a stockpile, however I stopped looking as other brands have filled the void.

Besides stack deep, what do you use in their place?

Lapua, Sierra, Vapor Trail, Precision Ballistics, Barts….you know, any of the many other tier one bullets that are AVAILABLE.

I would love to try VT and Barts - though I understand not all barrels and chambers like them.

Lapua makes good projectiles, but BC's aren't in same class as Berger.

Sierra projectiles can be fickle.

The nice thing about Bergers is that they are great all around performers. Very consistent, great BC for class, and lots of barrels seem to like them.

"Shithole" with lower chance of death by any non-natural cause? Your country is a mess because of right wing policy implementation. It's the reason you all feel the need to buy body armour and turn your children into school shooters.

Do go on, please enlighten us with the exact right wing policies that directly relate to these supposedly high chances of dying by non natural causes. I’m very curious what your sources are.

When I buy a barrel I typically buy enough bullets to shoot it out at the same time too (~2000-3000)... which is why since 2019, I haven't been able to shoot Bergers. I just haven't been able to find enough of them in bulk to use them and I don't want to be another one of the guys scouring the internet for "a box here a box there". A box of 100 here, 500 there, whoud drive me crazy...

So the legend grows lol...

Out of the 20-30 shooters that shoot a local monthly PRS match near me I can’t think of one person that’s still shooting Berger’s for this exact reason. Majority have switched over to some form of Hornady or Sierra bullet.

Vast majority (90+%?) of PRS shooters in local Georgia match (90+ shooters per month) are shooting Berger 105 or 109 hybrids still. 2nd choices are Berger 108s and Sierra 107s.

Just got to stock up when the stocking up is good. I have like 10K 109s on backorder and should get them on the next run. Put some money aside or be ready to max the CC when they come in stock. At worst, you can sell them at a nice markup at times like this to people who didn't prepare.

See!? It’s all those Georgia Americans hoarding those Burgers! Bashtids! 😁

I also still have them to shoot. It’s not hoarding if you only have enough for one year. But I buy when I see them, whether I “need” them at the time or not.

Honestly, there are other good options that work pretty dang well in most of the 6mm cartridges used for match shooting. I practice mostly with less expensive bullets that mimic the BC and accuracy of the muff burgers.

Good reason to grab a .223 Barrel/Bolt/Mag. You can make very accurate .223 loads with a 75gr eldm for less than .50 cpr to practice with and the barrel life is like 2-4 times your 6mm match barrel, not to mention saving your barrel for matches that matter. Use that to practice or even shoot short distance 1 day matches.

Just got a confirmation from Berger that they are not discontinuing 105 hybrids.

"There is no doubt that the bullet has been tough to get out to you with the huge market demand for it outstripping our capabilities to keep up with this demand. The bullet is in pre-production as we speak which means we are in the process of making our jackets and cutting cores toward getting ready for the actual run of these bullets which means that they will be available to our dealers in the near future."

Frank: Please institute a "go fuck yourself again, you useless twatwaddle" emoji.

There's one shop near here that I know of that has Bergers more often than the websites I keep track of. I've got two different guns that love the 109s so I have stocked up since it seems that the dry spell runs over a year each time. If I could just find a couple thousand 245 LRHT, I'd be gold but the dry spell on them is Sahara-like.

Says the guy who lives in a country rapidly becoming the next fascist communist state. Yeah, we give a fuck...LOL

The thing is... one of the things I've learned since the Bergers became so scarce is: they're not the only bullet out there that shoots.

I don't think they were/are good enough to justify costing double what some of the others' do (like they do now)... and IDK if I'll be willing to pay extra for the hype surrounding them if/when they become more available again.

The problem is that when they come available again, the scalpers will buy them all up and put them on GunBroker.

I'm curious what you are replacing them with that shoot just as good for half the price? I've only subbed in A-tips and they are even more expensive.

I've been shooting plebeian Match Burners for the better part of the last 2 years now and have never shot better (but you snobs can keep turning your noses up and skipping right past them please, they won't work for you, too cheap, can't be good lol).

The longer I do this the shit, the more I recognize how "group think" affects the sport... and whether it's bullets, scopes, or whatever... the most expensive/Gucci and/or popular option isn't always automatically the answer... I mean, there's only so much "skill" out there for one to buy.

Awww man!! You promised that you wouldn’t tell. Now you’re out of the club, man. Yer off the gravy train…

I'm just at a point where I'm like "are they consistant enough and can I get a shitload of them from the same lot, so I can load the same exact thing for a long time so I can think about shooting-shit instead of reloading-shit"...

Sort of like, not everyone needs a Zero press to load good ammo.. ask PRS champ Austin B. who loads his shit on a crappy Lee turret press that costs less than one of most guy's dies around here lol.

I love my 245s and they hammer in my rifle, but you can't find them consistently and when I do find them they cost more than a-tips in the end, so I'm slowly swapping over to available bullets.

do you find berger 108 boat tails to be worth the money?
They shoot just as good in my barrels as 105s and 109s. Charge for desired speed (2850 for me), seat 20 thou off, check to make sure nothing changes +/- 10 thou (it never does), shoot under 1/2” and sub 10 SD for as many as you want to put over the meter.

I may have overstated my claim. However, if you can’t get them, haven’t been able to for as long as anyone can remember, won’t be able to for the foreseeable future, then…they may as well have been discontinued. All we have to go on is a promise from some detached voice on the interwebs….and some claim that they have them by the thousands in Georgia? Given corporate honesty standards and Georgia’s accounting track record, I’ll believe it when I can buy them again. In the mean time, I’m winning matches with Hornady and Sierra and VTacs.
