Fast food layoffs have started ahead of the $20.00 pay raises.

Those jobs were never meant to pay a livable wage. You could ask thousands of 7-10 year olds what they want to be when they grow up and bet none of them would say they want any job a Pizza Hut nor any other fast food place. They are for kids in high school, trade school, or college trying to make some spending cash. It’s going to be interesting watching who all looses their jobs over commies in government making nonsense laws without considering the consequences.

On second thought, maybe they know exactly what will happen and it’s all part of their plan…..

Does anyone even remotely consider pizza hut shit to actually be pizza....or anything else vaguely Italian ?

The other day I was on a road trip and got a little bit hungry, only place nearby was a McDonalds.
I drove up to the drive thru order thing and noticed a BigMac was over $8 now.....and not for the meal deal, for the burger by it's self.

I distinctly remember as a kid growing up (in Denver at that time) I could order a BigMac, a regular cheeseburger, a large order of fries, and a large drink.
I could give them a 1 dollar bill and get change back.....it was either 84 or 94 cents total, don't recall which since it's been a few days since then.

Yes I know times change, and so do prices.
But let's be real, on what planet can you not make a BigMac at home with better ingredients, and incredibly inflated pricing at the grocery store....for less than about $3 ?

Those fast food restaurant jobs are not intended to be “living wage “jobs! As stated above, they are for teenagers- high school kids, and others that just want to make a few dollars extra…… McDonald’s and the other fast food places better get their prices back down / in place, or they’re going to go out of business, 2+ dollars for a basic little McDonald’s hamburger !!! that cost less than a dollar a few years ago, is absolutely ridiculous.

Even in a communist state, capitalism still exists. This is, as Thomas Sowell eloquently described, management of scarce resources.

Around here, you can often get real decent food from a small cafe or diner for the same as a meal at a fast food place.

$18 for a Mickey D’s combo meal 🙄; who would pay that for that trash? I haven’t eaten there in about 20 years because the food quality was just too low, so I haven’t kept up with the frogs getting boiled in the pot as the prices have climbed to that level. I could see this ending in places going out of business.

This doesn’t happen now in expensive markets. It would only happen if the companies chose to raise prices opportunistically. Of course, corporations have been doing that for the last few years. Inflation is up but corporate profits are also at record highs. We’ve been getting gouged.

Who is going to pay for it ?............ You

The United States Government is one of the largest buyer's of "food"...

I could spend hours posting free government food programs. They may look like they are State programs but they are Government funded.

A few to think about:

Head Start programs
Jails and prisons
The military
All those hungry illegals coming across the Southern border
All the poor, underfed children showing up at public schools (WIX, Food Stamps, etc)

Keep working that crappy job and paying your government to feed all the people not working.

So so true. At some point , those of us who actually PRODUCE. will have enough of this shit and do something about it..... but until then, the leaches will only multiply faster and the corrupt elite will be all too happy to oblige.

The term is "exponentially". There will be more leaches.
Higher taxes that will be wasted. Increases in the National Debt. No plan to close the borders. No plan to refill the Strategic Oil Storage.
The only plan the Federal Reserve has is "Hope".
The only thing that will tame inflation is more inflation.
3 month trend downward trend of the DXY continues.

WASHINGTON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's top economic adviser said on Friday that recent data shows the "width of the runway for a soft landing has gotten much bigger" and that immigration had helped the U.S. labor force rebound.

"Immigration, or the share of foreign-born (people) in the workforce has been also an important contributor to the great rebound in the labor force over the course of the last year… That's certainly a part of overall policy considerations,” she said.

As far as I know, they have not given any of the invaders work visas or whatever paperwork they need to actually get a legitimate job, so how have they entered the workforce in a way they can actually measure??

And then there’s the counter article; I guess we will figure out which one is right the middle of next year. Two opposing views written by people with opposing agendas.

There is another thing people forget about. You are not really "paying" for it. You just put it on your credit card. That is not real money.

People will buy something on a CC that they would never do if they had to pay cash for it. That paper money even if almost worthless, feels like something, at least to most of the generation on this site. $60 for five guys. I bet the feeling would be very different if you dropped down two $20's, a $10, some $5's and a hand full of $1's. It would "feel" like a great deal of money. I doubt you would do it a second time.

Another thing "they" want, no cash, it makes it far more easy for you to "consume" like they want you to.

We use a CC for about 90 percent of our purchases. Every couple months I go online and apply the points to our balance. Every month the wife pays off the balance. CC interest is for idiots.

Agreed, its been at least 40 years for me. Anyone dumb enough to eat that shit when you can go next door and get a real meal for the same or less deserves what they get. But there is the possibility of free entertainment.

We do the exact same thing, we pay our CC's off weekly. They never carry a ballance.

I was just trying to make a point about a cashless society.

I eat a bit of fast food, because it is fast. Just a nature of what I do. The past 6-ish months I have started to bring my lunch from home. I have a little "fridge" that will keep it cool enough to still be good at lunchtime.

You can call ahead to any restaurant and have a good meal that many times can be had for the same money or less. Apps like Yelp and Around Me are good for travelers to find restaurants the town ahead and it’s ready when you get there to pick. It takes minimal effort but more than pulling up to the next Mcdonalds.

Throwing lunch from home in a cooler as you do and I as well, is the most cost efficient. A man can eat a ribeye everyday for lunch and come out ahead.

When I work out of town I head to the grocery store and buy several steaks. I find a park if my hotel don’t have a bbq pit and I cook three or four days worth of food at once.

Yeah, because except for the last 100 years Man was unable to survive for thousands of years without it.

Trisha.

Oddly enough the world has changed just a bit in 100 years, or has that little part slipped past you.

She is a good person, She dindu nuffin.

Sorry about my slow response but I had to get stopped in this line of 17 other people who are going to pay $12 for a cuppa coffee that they could brew at home for $.25

Imagine how much they could be saving if they gave up drinking coffee.

Not nearly so much as if I didn't pay 33% of my income to the government.

I get two coffee shop coffees per week. That's likely not changing.

That was my lifestyle for many years. Nothing like bring some smoked meat when going down to eat the "Continental Breakfast"... Heat steak, sausage or pork chops in their microwave and fill the area with a good aroma. The draw back is when people say "I could not find that sausage, where is it located" ?.... LOL

Robots deserve a livable wage!

Sirhr
Door dash and other 'aftermarket' delivery services are likely to absorb at least some of the fired workers. ...but that's still going to leave a fair few out in the cold.

These 'unintended consequences' are something that should have been foreseen IF lawmakers weren't partisan hacks. Businesses aren't charities and if costs go up, prices go up OR they find a way to reduce costs. I predict more AI taking orders, more computerization, and fewer people actually working in places that can automate.

robots and kiosks rarely miss shifts. Rarely have behavioral problems. Rarely cause customer complaints
