Also federal is soft brass. Hornady isn’t a ton better. So factory ammo loaded hot or close to the lands could have some effect.
Also remember you’re part of the #12lbsboltliftgang with that ATX. So maybe the hornady is just fine

This rifle loves Hornady ammo for some reason. Berger factory ammo is OK, everything is sub minute, but this particular Bartlein LOVES ELD-M’s.
The Federal stuff shot reasonably well for hunting ammo just seems like it might be loaded on the spicy side. Which probably means it should be running large rifle primers. That said I torched of 3 rounds of 129gr Hornady SST “Superformance” and it shot better than the fancy pants Federal stuff, and showed no signs of pressure or primer issues.
I guess I should be happy it likes the cheapest readily available component match bullets and loaded match ammo out there. Like a pretty girl that would rather drink Coors Banquet than Champagne.

@RUN8 did the boltface or firing pin get etched? Was there evidence on any of the spent cases of leakage around the primer, or piercing? If factory ammo were etching AI parts, I'd be very vocal with the ammo manufacturer.
If the Federal ammo is leaking or setting the primer back it is worth calling them in the event there is a bad lot out there. Hopefully you still have the offending box with the lot number.

Still have the box and the remaining 16 rounds, I had fired a single round of it back in November at a steel target using the same elevation as some Berger 144gr and it hit to the same POI as the Berger at 523 yards oddly enough.

I did leave Federal a report with pertinent details. The lot number of my box is B046U18 in case anyone else has any on hand to be on the lookout for.

What’s a more likely scenario is cold weather causing lube in the ignition system to thicken up and create more drag, robbing energy transfer to the primer cup.
Key word was rumor. Was going around a while back. Guys were swapping to small rifle magnum primers
I'm only in to ask if people have had problems with factory 6.5x47 Lapua. I don't think it has ever been sold as anything but small rifle primer.
I have both large and small rifle primer brass for my 6.5 CM and 6XC, never have bought any srp 308 brass. But, that's more of a hedge against primer availability than anything else. I don't load high enough to need srp.
What did they charge for that? I'm in the north but nice to know about places to go. Did you do all the disassembly? Turned out slick

From what I hear it is the proverbial “easy button” of 6.5mm cartridges to load for and achieve single digit SD’s.
It’s a well designed cartridge with the huge advantage of only being available in top quality brass, and that is going to help a lot.

I am not sure which AI you are using but this happens to me all of the time in the AXMC which has a LFP. I don't use terminal ascent but use the FGMM with the Berger 130-grain bullet. Primers are badly cratered. Sometimes they are even damaged to the point where fragments end up preventing the firing pin from working. I have to take the firing pin out and dump the fragments out of the bolt body. It also coats the spring with all sorts of gunk that requires a thorough scrubbing to remove the residue. Norma 6.5 with large rifle primers is even worse than the Federal. I want to try the Berger-loaded ammo since it uses an LRP to see if that works without issue.
I have stopped using Federal and Norma in the AXMC. Like you, I am thankful that the AXMC does not exhibit this issue with Hornady and like you the groups are great so I just use that. My AT which has an SFP does not have these issues so I run the Federal in that.
I shoot it, and it works great out of the AT-X. Super easy. Feeds great and low recoil for a 6.5
Yep, 6.5x47L is by far one of my favorite cartridges. I just don't have a barrel for it yet for my AT-X.

The only "Border Patrol" spec is the actual rifle itself with the short forend. The short forend AICS chassis has been out for quite some time now. It was designed mainly for rimfire rifles with shorter barrels.
But, LE prefers shorter forend for short barrels with suppressors. We've been using the short AICS for several department builds.

I think the screw heads are soft and loose. I bet it didn't even take much force to strip. On advise of this thread I didn't even bother with the hex heads and tapped a T15 bit into the hex head and then they backed out without any issue.
