I get it, but networking like this saves a bunch of weight and actually makes these fancy schmancy cars less complex. It is something new and sometimes frustrating to learn though
Have you seen how Elon handled it in the Tesla Truck? Basically used a LAN and took something between 70 and 100 pounds of copper out of the truck... Brilliant.
BTW, putting a new wiring harness in my 1976 CJ-7.

Now, where is that computer... Not sure how it could possibly run without more computing power than the entire Space Program prior to 1977... Must be in here somehow or it won't start!

This one vvv talks about the Ethernet/Token Ring network and how they 'wired' the cyber truck. Incredible advance over the CanBus.

I think I remember the guys who taught the w221 class that all of the CAN systems saved about 150lbs.
I like the idea of some old something-or-other that has a few feet of wiring. But I also like a/c and heated seats…
If anything gives one faith in humanity this is it.
The way the did the LAN on tesla puts a single ring of wire around the truck. Then connects things with 6 - 10" shunts. Everything runs around the main wire instead of having each device plugged into its own fuse port or central computer.
As for the CJ... I like heated seats, too. But not at the cost of my car not starting because some PLA dink in a white building in Bejing decides he doesn't want it to because I called him a Zipperhead on Snipers Hide.

Well, no, not less complex than some old farm truck. But less complex than if all of the control units had to have their own dedicated inputs/outputs. With signals being networked like they are, several control units can use the signal from one sensor(engine temperature for example).

EtherLoop, ethernet loop ... no time slicing or lack of redundancy like token ring
EtherLoop has been around since the 90s, better in many ways than CAN bus or token ring functionally ... not sure of the cost differences parts + manufacturing ... added complexity over CAN bus to that's got to cost something

I took my daughter out to lunch a few days ago. I asked her which vehicle she would like to go in and she picked the 89 suburban. A few miles down the road she asked me why don't they make seats like this anymore? Like what? I asked. "Big and cushy like a couch".
Looking at the prices of brand spanking new cars and trucks, and then looking at the prices of very good looking older trucks and cars.....and knowing what "they" are doing to the new cars.......I will never buy another new vehicle of any kind.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are expecting to have a full flight. Please stow smaller items, such as purses and handbags underneath the seat in front of you and utilize the overhead bin space for larger carryon items.
