Question though, who here wishes not to have more rounds?

I can honestly say I rarely wanted fewer rounds, except in certain circumstances during a stage with low clearance, and my 14-round SAW nutsack became an issue.
I like the AW mags because they are compact. I really don't care for larger ones. Maybe 12 but I'd rather not add more length. To me that's one of the benefits of AW.

Good day to be at the range.

Finally got to rock the new 2014 AT today compliments of @TheBigCountry

Manzella 28” 260 Rem
142 SMK
H4350 at 42.5 grains
Lapua Brass
CCI 200 primer

Moving about 2830 fps. I’ll get more serious numbers when I load develop on the fired brass later

Just some 100 yard groups to sight in then fire form brass in the future

For those curious there’s Zero primer cratering with this setup with a large firing pin bolt at this charge. I actually did the initial load development with this barrel on my 2022 ATX and a small firing pin bolt

For today I just through the barrel on this AT and shot the same ammo with this guns factory lfp bolt

First shot way high right to get zeroed. The next 5 went into a .4” group you could cover with a dime. Then 4 shot group with the remaining rounds in the mag. I pulled the one right of the orange after moving position. Stacked the remaining 3 inside 1/4”

The other bolt is currently at black canyon being converted to a magnum head. Got the 7 round mag today and 300 WSM Lapua brass on the way. Excited for this rifles journey

I will say I hate shooting at 100. My eyes are always screwing with me. Load development will be at 300 yards as I usually do in the future

Rocking the 338 Ultra SR

Thank you

I fired the first round which hit top right corner of the paper. Cant see it in those pics I don’t think

One adjustment and the next shot wiped the X out of the center of the bulleye.

The following two shots are basically through the same hole. Then I’m thinking I need a 5 shot group for any legitimacy here. So I mind fucked myself until my eyes fatigued trying to concentrate haha. The next round is the one lower right on the orange. 5th shot was basically in with the rest. But this is what I mean why I don’t shoot 100

I mind fucked myself when moving to next target. Then pulled one right. Once I pulled the shot I focused less and managed to just stack the last 3 on the second group.

When I shoot groups at 300 I shoot at these same orange targets. Only I put them on black paper. I make sure I’m zeroed off the orange before testing. Then while firing I cannot see my groups. I find my shots are more consistent because I have no idea if it’s a 1/4 moa or 3 moa group I’m shooting

@hafejd30 if I'm really trying to get the tightest group I can I'll adjust 1-2 mils in any direction so I can always have a clean aiming point and not get distracted by a group forming. Screws with your head a lot less
I do the same when load testing. But at 300 yards

This was zeroing the scope. I only planned to shoot a shot, adjust, then 3 more to confirm or make final adjustments.

Using the reticle to measure I can safely say the cold bore and following 3 shots are inside 1/2 moa. Probably closer to 1/4 moa which is nice to see

Once I saw the shooting I was doing I shot the rest of the magazine out.

If I shot 100 yard benchrest I think I’d leave every match with a headache from over concentrating and eye fatigue

I only shot this tonight because I sighed in my LMT MWS and had stuff set up already. Normally I shoot my LR stuff off a gravel road on our property. I find the flat road much more stable to shoot from vs my yard and down the hill into the swamp

The strain is real

Oh yeah, it blows real hard. I don't leave home without mine anymore.

FWIW - I ordered some CPAP filters and adapters so I could filter the air flow; I didn't want to blow dust or sand into my barrel when I was shooting prone off the ground. The filter is already visibly darkening from the dust it's been catching from the Quantico ranges. I originally ordered one of these small air pumps, but it didn't put out enough air flow to cool a big barrel and suppressor, so I added more power. I cobbled together the adapters (because of the filter) and added a cut down case to fit the chamber. All credit to the person (I think in this thread) I stole this from.

Obligatory AI pic for the thread that was probably posted earlier:

I just got back from shooting the IPRF World Championships at Cameo, Colorado... what an amazing match!

I manged to get videos of a few stages and thankfully 2 of them were my better stages of the match before I lost zero...

No triggercam footage as wanted to concentrate more on shooting than content..

Also shot a mates 6.5mm Creed AT-X at a rock 1625m away... 1st round impact.

We then managed a 5th Round impact with my .308 straight after. 26mils and 5mil of wind 😅

Gunna be honest...I don't follow this one?

Did meet an mrad owner last weekend who wished he hit a AI instead.

I think he was pointing out the fact that the particular MRAD owner / meme generator of the one you quoted didn't know that you can do the same with an AI.

****

And now for the potentially unpopular opinion of the day: After having my buddies MRAD for 4 months to do load development with, I am happy to own an AI instead too. However (gulp) his bolt is just as smooth as my AT-X 😳...clunky AF...but just as easy to operate. I could never get over the plastic sleeve inside the upper receiver though. Then I shot back-to-back-to-back sub half-minute groups with his in 300NM with a load I put together.

I'll take an AI any day of the week if someone else is buying, but I can't hate on the MRAD based upon my personal sample of one unit.

This is where it starts lol....

@diggler1833 I played with an mrad before they got popular and enjoyed it. Still chose an AI when I had to put my money on something but I didn't hate it. Plastic sleeve seemed odd to me too, was smooth but I could tell it was sliding in a plastic tube. At this rate though I should have bought an mrad over my trg.

Sold my AXSA, bought a TRG, sold my TRG, bought an MRAD, gonna sell the MRAD (perfectly capable system mind you), gonna buy an AI again.

I at least learned from the first time I sold an AI for another gun.... this time I kept my AT. Only time it will go is after I'm dead.

Trg A1 is so far a let down though. Hard as hell to get better than 1moa. Found all my action screws finger tight this week and went to go torque them to their ridiculous 133inlb limit and stretched/cracked one screw at only 80inlb. Thankful I was able to get it out buy wtf? $5k rifle that a fucking savage would put to shame.

I was asked what data card I was using in one of my pictures; it's homegrown. I usually staple up three LaRue 4 position targets for my zeroing and load testing, and use the data card to capture the conditions, velocities and position of each shot, which I then transpose to a spreadsheet and my range data book. Overkill, but it works for me.

The sheet attempts to capture the data I value by identifying the target (top, middle or bottom) then the individual target from the 4-position grid (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right), as well as the barrel round count, speeds and then plots. I'll add a handwritten note if I'm shooting suppressed, or if I change loads. I have it in Word so it can be modified and in a PDF. If anyone wants the files, shoot me a note and we'll figure it out.

I've always loved the MRAD, I remember when I was a kid seeing it for the first time on Guns & Ammo magazine I thought it was the coolest thing ever, but I've messed with a few and found the length of pull too long and the stock generally less comfortable than an AI. Maybe one day, but definitely a lower priority.

There is always Desert Tech after you sell this AI
Gross.
I did briefly consider an MRAD, until I saw that (at the time) the only way you could get a spare barrel was to buy an entire "conversion kit" from Barrett for like $2500
Steel is less and they sell the extensions now. I have a custom 6.5CM barrel, actually.

The LOP is definitely an issue.

I'm not arguing that things can't progress.... You will get a 16+rd aics pattern mags when md start doing 15+ round stages on the reg .... I'm not scorning the mfg they are filling an obvious demand.

Pretty sure I made 0 assumptions or comments as to your abilities home skillet nor did I make any comparisons to my own

I am merely providing free commentary on a sat night to something I find comical about the competitive shooting world. It's not the first time and won't be the last

I’ll say it…it’s a crutch for people who have zero weapon handling skills. …but it is an equipment adaptation to MDs trying to get people to do reloads as part of the stage design.

Reload or die a loser.

“Losers whine about reloads and needing extended magazines. Winners go home and reload with the Prom Queen.” -J. Mason
