Dumping the AT seems like a stupid move. The whole point of the ATX was supposed to be for the prs market. I don't see the ATX filling the market spot for AT consumers.
I want an AWSM with a quick - detach barrel and the ability to accept longer .338 LM rounds.
And, oh - a thumbhole folding stock.

... This isn't news to anyone right? Accuracy International put out a press release mid January 2024 when they announced the AT-XC that the AT308 and AX308 would be discontinued. Their main rifles are now the AT-XC, AXSR Multi-Caliber (based on the ASR and it's military contract competition) and AX ELR. It has also been confirmed that the AW, AT and AXSA will continue to receive support with parts and service as all are still being used across the globe with various units. But, they will no longer be sold directly. Rumors of the AT308 still being sold to LE exist, but is uncomfirmed. So while I'm 99% sure I'm sharing information already known, here's all the briefs and details for the 1% that maybe haven't "checked out the latest" in the last year, or longer... But yes: the AT-X MIL, as they are saying it, replaces both the AT308 and AX308 in their catalog lineup.

I’d still consider selling the TRG for an “ATMC”, however, I’m sure the price would be insanely high compared to what the AT went for and what the AXSR now goes for.

I'm not entirely sure Accuracy International understands just how loved the AW and AT308 are. But, they have to look at their own sales numbers. All said, I can only hope they do consider doing special runs every year or the likes so that younger generations can get their hands on this famed rifle.
AI went towards the prs crowd. Which in my opinion, being a big AI fan, was a poor choice. There’s to many custom actions, triggers, caliber etc for their design to truly shine.
If I was running prs I’d build a rifle tailored to the sport.

Is PRS crowd is ahead of the .mil guys on tools and gear? I haven't been in either game, but from what it looks like PRS is trickling out to .mil guns i.e. arca rails, tripods and positional shooting.
So by AI playing in that field it's kinda giving them a head start on the next contract solicitation? Like boarder patrol and the AT-XC.
We fired this ammo last weekend, not bad accuracy for armor piercing.

I’m probably wrong, but it looked like the ATX was in the hands of military personnel before the ATX was introduced to the citizen shooter, or is that time line backwards?
Looking at the AX, AT, and AT-X side by side, there is really nothing the AT/AX do that the AT-X doesn't do better.
As much as I love the look of a AW/thumbhole AT, the AT-X is just better.
However, I don't see any reason why AI couldn't take the AT and make a best of both world rifle.
Slim down the height of the forend, remove the tapered section in in front of the magwell, and build in a barricade stop (basically like a KRG forend on a TRG 22). Maybe make the forend a little longer too.
But would this really be better than an AT-X? Look cooler for sure, but not sure if better.
It’s not the thumbhole that makes it better. It’s that holding plastic or fiberglass is way more comfortable than metal because of specific heat. Holding my axsr when it’s freezing just sucks the heat right out.

Yes, it was being tested. Although the original AT-X was announced and showcased at SHOT Show in early 2021.

I should clarify. This is only my opinion.
It’s not a mistake to go towards that crowd. I think it was a mistake to abandon legacy models.
You see a ton of guys here asking about buying a rifle setup for prs. For many especially starting out or trying the sport a $6500 ATXC is a bit of a bite into their wallet for gear. Considering what you need to be competitive in the sport
For me if I was shooting PRS I wouldn’t use a ATX/ATXC. Simply for the fact that I can set up a fully competitive rifle for half of what an ATXC cost and top it with a ZCO for the same money
But my reason most of all is aftermarket support. I’ve used lots of chassis/stocks and I want the ability to buy and try from the px here to find what I like or switch things up if I want.
The chassis options are endless. Accessories are endless and much cheaper for something like an mdt platform then they are a AI.
You also have the ability to swap bolt heads for not much money on these other actions. You can tune triggers to make the action super smooth etc
You can add lots to something like an ATXC. But overall if you’re not happy with the chassis or want to swap to a stock etc you’re stuck with what you have.
There’s already guys selling their ATXC here because they don’t feel it offers anything over their current ATX models. But if you want to buy a new AI the $6500 ATXC is your starter rifle. I don’t know many guys who are buying those compared to guys who wanted an AI for whatever reason and end up buying an AT and being very happy with the purchase
By going all in on the ATXC you took out the average gun guys ability to afford one

Current border patrol is a fucking joke. So yay to AI for landing that contract. Those rifles were never intended to be used for anything other than some flexing during target practice.
The new administration will change that. Let’s see if they choose the ATXC to fulfill that spot

AT models let the common folk afford an AI. In recent months those have become more scarce to find. When you do find one it seems they’re creeping up to around $4000 in the used market since discontinuation.
Which again makes it harder for guys to get into AI’s who don’t have a ton of $$ to spend
I have an AT-XC and I have little faith in ever seeing a magnum bolt for it which blows. If I can get a second bolt assembly for it I’ll send one out to get opened up.

Last year I bought a 2014 AT 2.0 w/ LFP for $3000 shipped off of the PX as it was a good deal and I use it as my 308Win rifle with my 2015 w/ SFP being my 260Rem rifle.
If I was new and shopping today there’s no way I’d be buying the AT-XC due to it being $6500 plus it’s just not something I want.
I don’t shoot competitions but even if I decided to I’d just pull a CDG action out of the safe and build a rifle on that for half the cost of the AT-XC while at the same time having it bebetter suited to competition simply due to it being easier and cheaper to customize the way I want it while also actually being able to easily get parts for it.

Took her out to 1,525y this afternoon. Wind really kicked my ass, but had a great time and learned from it.
15+ MPH winds at 1000 made things sporty today. Very disappointed in recent LOT Hornady ELD-M's, ES of 50+ makes it hard to stay consistent at distance.

Which Garmin Xero ARCA mount are you using and did it include the flip open screen protector? I imagine that the AX Sling mount would work on the AT-X/AT-XC as well?
I’m using the Gray Ops CNC QD mount (full kit option) and Bump Cover. I also bought the little picatinny rail section that attaches to the Garmin factory tripod so that you can bounce the Garmin Xero back and forth between the arca mount and tripod with ease and speed.
Correct, that sling mount will work on any of our AI keyslots. The screws that you choose with that QD sling mount are specific, based on pre-2014 and 2014+, so pay attention to that.

The new prices on the AI make me wish I had bought an AE MKiii and an AT. The AT was great great.
Having had both there’s no reason whatsoever to get an AE if getting an AT is an option.
The AW magazines alone are worth the extra cost. I dislike all rifles now that don’t have double stack double feed magazines that I can load through the chamber including my TRG-42.
Fair point, follow on question. Hypothetically, would you trade an AE for and AT? What would the cost difference point be worth it for you?
I actually did just that back in 2016 and it was worth every penny to me mainly because of how much better the AW magazines are than the AICS magazines.
The quick change barrel is also nice, however, I don’t change them frequently so it’s not a huge factor to me. The bonded action and ability to change barrels without removing the action from the chassis though is a big plus to me of the AT over the AE.
Also, if your AE is a MKI or MKII getting the 3-position safety of the AT is a net positive.
Flush cups, side rails, and NV rail options on the AT are also nice upgrades over the AE.
ETA: I believe I paid $1650 to go from the AE MKIII to the AT at the time when I traded my rifle to MHSA.

Pepperidge Farm remembers when ATs without barrels were going for under $3k soon after the ATX came out and everyone was dumping their "obsolete" ATs for the new hotness...
Hindsight being 20/20 (or even 20/10) while I still really like my 2x AX308s and 1x AXMC I should never have sold my 2x ATs with both pistol grip and thumbhole stock sides to fund the AXs... I had 2x of every color stock side offered in both thumbhole and pistol grip flavors.
Looking back I can't believe I sold both ATs and gave up the classic AW/AT thumbhole look, I should have only bought 1x AX and kept 1x AT, and sometimes I think I should have just kept the 2x ATs and skipped the 2x AX308s and only picked up the AXMC.
While the idea of swapping one or both of my AX308s into a Vision chassis with a thumbhole buttstock is still very tempting to get some more modern chassis geometry but keep the classic thumbhole look, it would be quite difficult now as AT folder buttstocks are pretty hard to get as we're well past the brief period in time where lots of people here were dumping their AT folding buttstocks cheap after swapping out to AX buttstocks.
I started with 1x AE Mk3 I bought new from Mile High, then picked up a second AE Mk3 I bought used. Both AEs shot amazing but I sold both several years later for 2x ATs just because I wanted AW mags after trying some. If you're not swapping barrels frequently the 2x major differences frrom the AE to the AT are the small firing pin on the 2015+ AT and AW mags, plus the chassis being a little newer with flush cups vs HK hooks. IMO upgrading from the AE to AT was worth it just for the AW mags, they're awesome, and the small firing pin was a bonus even though I never had issues with cratered or pierced primers even with the large firing pins in my AEs.
Personally, I'm someone that hates having to rezero scopes and swap barrels because it seemed like every time I took the rifle out of the safe I wanted to use the barrel/caliber that was not on it at the moment, and because of that I can take or leave the quick change barrel feature. I'd rather have mutiple rifles in different calibers that are always ready to go even though that costs a bunch more money than a single rifle with multiple barrels you swap frequently. IMO the old torqued to 100 lb-ft barrel interface of the AE and AW is a better and more secure interface than the current quick change barrel system of the AT/AX/ATX/AXSR. I experimented with torquing the barrels on my ATs to 50 lb-ft before tightening the quicklock screw (didn't want to go with the full 100 lb-ft torque spec for the AE/AW actions with the H cut for the quick change feature in the AT action) and I did notice slightly better cold bore consistency as well as smaller groups when smacking the barrel with a rubber mallet between every shot compared to the barrel snapped on hand tight then torquing the quick lock screw, but that's a very limited test with very limited data points. AI obviously has faith in the quicklock system (as well as it being a contract requirement for a couple of programs they submitted rifles for.)
Back when I sold my AEs and upgraded to ATs I think it cost me about $600 per rifle to sell the AE and get into the AT. To me that was worth it. It's going to cost more than $600 to upgrade today though.
