Either was less than the optimum outcome.

I read that the old drivers trained themselves to take a deep breath of the flames as that would kill them quickly rather than burning. Dont know if that true.

I did hear of one driver who made sure he pressed his back hard into the seat while his car was burning, to make sure the doctors had some skin to graft from
