Had granite. Scratch and chip too easy. We talked about the hot pot deal. She said, “I don’t do it now, why would I start?”

I wanted a darker color, she wanted light. We compromised and got light.

They started the bathrooms yesterday. As well as the kitchen went, this has been a total clusterfuck. One sink hole cut in the wrong place, did not account for an electric outlet, backsplashes wrong size. Won’t be back before Monday. Wife has a hen party this Sunday. I’m spending a lot of time loading ammo and (re)cleaning guns. Just trying to stay out of the crossfire.
Homely Depot huh ?

Too much of a coincidence to not be. We had the same experience(s). Their supplier is pretty inept. Multiple instances of pieces being cut wrong/backwards. The estimator/guy taking the measurements and the installers were great.

The supplier finally got it right, but a two day install took something like 3.5 or 4 months to finally get it all done.

I hear ya!

When we had ours done, granite, we were picking between 4. There was 1 that I said "Absolutely not!!' I got home after it was installed, guess what we have?

I place HD in the same class as Walmart. Not on my go to list.

Independent business. Great reviews, in business for decades, etc.

I’ve already told him if he cannot finish Monday, don’t bother coming.

I used a HD or Lowes (don’t recall) contractor once about 25 years ago. Never again.

I used a Lowe's contractor about a dozen years ago for a run of fence about 30 feet in length. Fancy poly-panel stuff.

The guy showed up to get the deets then turned down the job. Too small. Big fence company looking for big fence leads not small homeowner projects.

I bitched at Lowe's about it and they put the screws to the guy to do the job.

He did it, he did a good job but now I'm forever leary of Lowe's contractors and he probably pulled his name from the contractor hat.

Keep in mind that a lot of those "Independent businesses" also farm out to HD and Lowes. If their business is slow, they have to keep their guys/crews working.

We're in the middle of a remodel presently. We've had a contractor and a plumber come in to give us quotes on various things. We basically kicked both of them out after they gave us ridiculous quotes. The Trades have been quite busy lately and the contractors are creatures of opportunity/low hanging fruit. If you're looking to have reasonable work done for reasonable prices, you go to the back of the bus.

Don't be surprised if your guy just doesn't show up.

Just finished the bathrooms and kitchen remodel…

I Wish you luck, and if I knew where u was I’d send you a case of coors light to help you out. Our house was a disaster for about a month. Luckily everything went well and no BS issues.

I'd laugh harder if the whole thing was caused by HVAC. Those guys are the bane of structural integrity. I don't know what they teach them, but I do know it's not "Ask the carpenter before you hack shit out of your way." I've never had another trade do anything careless without talking to me first. It's the norm for HVAC.
Plumbers are way worse than HVAC, and at least the HVAC guys can read. Many plumbers are on par with roofers for IQ. There should be an IQ test before the sell you a sawzall.

There are good contractors out there, they most likely are the ones you guys think are overpriced but like anything you get what you pay for. If you paid for better contractors you wouldn't have the issues that you are experiencing.
The plumber that we called quoted $4,000.00 to install two new shower valves (supplied by us). Probably an hour's work on each one, if that. The walls were already open and we did/will do all the rest of the work. He also quoted $900.00 to replumb the drain(s) (not the supply lines) with disposal on a double farmhouse kitchen sink. If he was slow, it would have been two hours.

Uhhhh, no. This guy didn't even come remotely close to fitting your description.

Cause the supply is so short and demand so high. They can quote like that and stay busy

I've seen hundreds of times that the house gets under roof and the buyers come in and want walls moved, bathrooms rearranged, stairways moved and doorways changed. Contractor says okay without any concerns or consulting with the subs and then everything lines up with floor trusses/joists.
