There are good contractors out there, they most likely are the ones you guys think are overpriced but like anything you get what you pay for. If you paid for better contractors you wouldn't have the issues that you are experiencing.
My dad had a plumbing contractor in Kalispell MT come out and replace a toilet, vanity, sink, 1 angle stop, the shower valve and two faucets. The guy was on site less than 6 hours total. When dad got the invoice it was for, the toilet, 20 hours of labor, 3 round trips of drive time to and from the contractors parts warehouse, 8 angle stops, and 20 feet of copper pipe. I supplied the vanity, sink and faucets. He was supposed to bring the toilet, the second round trip they charged was for him to go back into town and get the toilet. The third round trip was to come back the next day because he didn't crimp two of the connection on the shower valve. The guy used maybe 1 foot of copper pipe, only changed 1 angle stop and got all of the work done in one day, except having to come back and crimp two lines the next day. When I called the owner of the plumbing company he got really indignant with me. I asked how he could charge for 20 hours when the guy was on site less than 6 hours. I also asked how he could charge for 8 angle stops when he only replaced 1, why he charged for 20 feet of pipe, and why is he charging to come back the next day when it was his fault for not crimping two lines.

My dad has been lettering this plumbing company's trucks and doing all of their signs for many years and the response I got from the owner of the company was "I don't have time to deal with this kind of shit". Is it any wonder they are the most expensive and have the lowest Yelp rating of any plumbing contractor in the Flathead Valley.

EDIT: I stole that one about eleven years ago

I've seen hundreds of times that the house gets under roof and the buyers come in and want walls moved, bathrooms rearranged, stairways moved and doorways changed. Contractor says okay without any concerns or consulting with the subs and then everything lines up with floor trusses/joists.
I can relocate joists. You just need to talk to me before you butcher your way to where you need to go. I was a remodeling carpenter for about 10 years of my career. Anything can be done. It's gonna cost the homeowners some money, but it can be done. In all honesty, when I worked in the Madison Wisconsin area, all the other trades knew to come ask me before they cut into structure. Or to talk over a plan to get where they needed to go. Except HVAC of course.. they only stand out because they were literally the only trade with multiple problems. In other areas of the state and country it could be anyone.

I've been pounding nails just south of Madison for well over a decade now, and as much as I like to give the other trades crap, I've not once experienced any of the difficulties with them that I always hear people complaining about. Maybe it's just because in a relatively small community everyone's on a first name basis and no one wants to be "that guy" but they seem to be very leary about touching a stud or joist without talking it over first, even if they have to send pictures and make calls.

Edit: the electricians are still the worst at sweeping up.

Enjoy this random picture of a rock I found next to a gas pump the other day.

Shot no of it was my choice..it’s obvious which one

Kitchen came about a year ago the other day she sprung the body shop lol
Tell her to hit the gym. No body shop without effort to keep the investment up. That comes first. But consideration has to be given to age and kids. Some things can’t be undone.
