Even if completely true, I doubt it will hurt them that much. They advertise in all the gun rags and few people care about it as much as this thread would make it seem.

As to the costs of suppressors, they could come off the NFA completely tomorrow and prices would not drop to the ridiculous levels that some here imagine. Sure there would be a huge push in sales at first, followed by every tom dick and harry jumping in to produce crap suppressors for cheap, but they will mostly fold in a year or two.

You can sure tell the people that have no clue what it takes to be a successful manufacturer here in the states. Much less a viable business.

Has anyone dug into the claims made in the Desk Pop video that the money from silencer tax stamps was meant to be used for wild life conservation? Just asking I have only skimmed over this quickly as I need to get some things done around the house.

A thread adapter for $40 and an oil filter for $25. 30 seconds with a drill press. Start with a 5/8”+ to ensure no “baffle strikes” and test noise reduction.

This thread is not about who thinks/feels/understands more about suppressor revenues/production/tolerances etc.

It is simply, is Silencer Central, looking to funnel funds to DC reps to keep funding their business model?

For those that are still not in the know, research Silencer Central. They are pro $ only. Not pro 2nd A nor anything that represents 99% of the consumers that buy suppressors. The background is pharmacy and lawsuits. Everything that Silencer Central banks on is keeping suppressors under NFA. If you have even a farts whiff of understanding in the industry, you know the background stemming from Dakota Silencer.

For everyone here that wants the absolute gold standard (suppressors off NFA) end result for all tax paying United States citizens, those part of the constitutional republic, & true 2nd Amendment patrons, I suggest the following persons be contacted in D.C. - Call the offices of John Thune, Mike Rounds, Dusty Johnson, Larry Rhoden, & Kristi Noem. Request you want to know exactly what is going on. They represent the actual Silencer Central location, so......

Where did the "conservation" video go? Desk Pop guy seems like a has been that never was. Cool Whip and tops everything.

Confusing Silencer Shop with Silencer Central is mortal sin.

Now, all we need is to have the "final rule" for what conservation means. The tuber states it's for a type of conservation vs what thousands of citizens take it as, per the information presented, so where is that other information?

Your favorite car brand doesn’t market its rotors as “precision” hardware made of “aerospace grade” cast steel, much less charge an arm and a leg for it - economy of scale aside.

This is very true. We are all surrounded by things with tolerances not far from zero.

Back in the 90's, in a lecture at a major physics department, I heard a guy describe the precision required to make a hard drive work, and it was pretty freaky.

I paid $35 for 115 drill bits at Harbor Freight, and their shank diameters were right on the money, at least to the thousandth.

A piece of typing paper is 0.004" thick, just like a typical hair, and that's more than big enough for you to feel. A thousandth is pretty big.

Precision machining doesn't start at thousandths. It starts at ten-thousandths.

My big silencer will work with .17 HMR to .308, so it appears that a lot of clearance is okay. The difference between .172 and some nominal .30 calibers is around 140 thousandths, or well over 1/8". I have not measured the front opening on the silencer. For all I know, the difference is more than 0.140.

I could make a hole within 0.140" of spec with a hand drill in the dark.

There really isn’t anything stopping any of the engineering and mechanical types in this thread from building a line of $100 suppressors and cornering the market.

That said, when I was looking to do a Form 1 suppressor, the parts were closer to $400 than $100, and that put me within spotting distance of a Yankee Hill, so I went that route instead.

I guess Ruger was a fool when it came to understanding the law, armed conflicts, and human nature.

A buddy of mine is an Orthodox Jew, and he looks like one. He was targeted during the riots. Four black men in a car chased him waving hammers, and he had to outrun them. Who here would want to face 4 morons with hammers with 10 shots? After his 10th shot, Bill Ruger would have crapped his pants and begged like a scared little girl.

The cops often shoot dozens of rounds at people and MISS, but somehow I'm supposed to take out multiple home invaders--a common problem--with 10 shots. I don't know about everyone else, but my plan in any defensive situation is to keep shooting at threats until they can't move. Exactly like the police.

This isn't a sport, Bill, you idiot. It's not supposed to be fair. You're not supposed to give a criminal a fighting chance. If an assailant has any hope at all of survival, it means my plan is inadequate. The proper goal is to be as unfair as possible. Exactly like the military.
