As much as I hold the very idea of 'Royalty' in absolute contempt, she was a tough old bird, a Brit to the core. During the blitzkrieg of WWII they tried to get her and her husband to leave London. They refused. She worked as a mechanic in the war effort.

During World War II, when there were attempts to persuade Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) to evacuate her daughters from London during the Blitz, she famously stated, "The children won't go without me. I won't leave the King. And the King will never leave." She also expressed, "I am glad we have been bombed. Now we can look the East End in the eye," according to the Imperial War Museums and the International Churchill Society, after Buckingham Palace was bombed. These statements highlighted her resolve to stay with the British people during the conflict.

I just can’t imagine the pain and humiliation Of waking up and finding out via memes and social Media that your spouse likes Coldplay. Must be devastating! Certainly grounds for divorce!!

Wife only turns 60 once
Birthday weekend started with kayaking the Niobrara
Son and DIL found two parts of the same (?) elephant (mamoth?) tusk about 50 yards apart
tusk.jpg

We put in by my bridge and get out at the next one where there are some private ponds so the birthday girl got to catch some nice little bass
bd 60 2.JPG

Hell, they even let the old man catch one:LOL:
fishin for Jean 60.jpg

Grilled some burgers and brats until the fish quit bitin' and the skeeters started, just after dark

Tommorow night Luau themed birthday party at the bar where oldest son and his guitar and singin' will be the featured entertainment.

Sunday TBD :sleep::LOL:

edit to add, forgot about 2 really nice bull elk ran in front of the Ranger on our way out of the river and for those who aren't used to being up close to them, they seem HUGE and move in slow motion

I wonder how a police package equipped bel air would have done
Probably just as F'in dead.

The older cars have one serious issue: The engines / transmissions are not designed to slide under the car in a head-on collision.

The result is the hideousness of that offset fronted collision... Granted there are plenty of other design features that might not have allowed to person to walk away, but would certain have prevented a fatal outcome. Seriously, the Bel Air responds like a missle hit it... and they aren't going THAT fast.

My wife turned 65 last BD. I said had anyone told me 20 years earlier I would one day be sleeping with a woman her age, I would have laughed. She reminded me I was four years older. She said something about trading for two 35s.

Reminds me of when a older Jeep in front one lane over to the right of me was hit by a Ford probe that came head on across 3 lanes of traffic. Probe impacted dead center at a slight angle offset on the Jeeps driver side frame rail. I went to try to help the woman driving the jeep but she was gone, I watched her chest swell up from the trauma as she took her last breaths. Probe driver walked away. There was an F-350 behind me that missed my rear bumper by inches and ended up impacting the back of the jeep. I was in a RX7. That was a close one.

Mine will be 57 in December, never been sexier.

My daughter was in a slightly offset head on collision around 2015. She was in our ‘05 Expedition. Other veh was a same gen F250.

Our Expedition crumpled to about the front wheel well and my daughter had a sore knee and a little seat belt bruising.

F250 was absolutely crushed, into the cab. The 2 passengers were helicoptered out with terrible injuries.

You would think they would be similar but there was a LOT of difference in the damage.

Holy shit.

I had a buddy hit a telephone pole in an RX-7 head on at 50 MPH with a passenger in the car. Air bag went off, and he walked away pretty much unscathed... the passenger side did not have an air bag and he was considerably less happy.

I watched somebody take a second gen they just swapped a turbo ii motor into it and first drive thought he was a drift racer and 180’d into a pine tree. The pine tree was about 2 inches away from the back of the seat. And that was that.

Yeah, the telephone pole was a GEN 3…

Lotta people try to kill themselves in those cars because the dual turbo chargers and the lightweight made for a really fast rear wheel drive car. It also made for a really easy to fly out of control vehicle because it wasn’t four-wheel-drive. It was rear wheel drive…..

yes the cross over when the 2nd turbo would hit was at 4500 RPM, boost would drop and then spike, a real mother fucker if you didn't know about it.

I had an FD. Got rid of the twins and went single. Still never driven anything that was that fun, 20PSI on a ported engine is a hand full!!!
