We’ve just heard from AI that our AX50 order is expected to arrive this September! If you’re interested in one of these rifles, feel free to send me a message or check them out here!

Great rifle, but good Lord that price tag!

I also don’t understand why they would completely neuter the rifle but cutting off the other nut. 50BMG was designed By JM Browning for a 45 inch barrel and the industry standard 29” gives up a lot of horsepower. 27 inches for a 50? Is it a close, quarters battle rifle? The AX50-Eunuch :)

Yeah, you take the highly capable 50 BMG round, you neuter the barrel, make it lightweight (26#) with brutal recoil (three (3!) port brake), and install a 3 1/2 pound trigger and call it a “ELR“ rig. Which is flat out silly unless Hummers/APCs at 1000 yards is your idea of “ELR“. More like an “extreme flinch generation” rig.

Now the idea of switch barrel for 375 might make it a viable rig, but you’re gonna pay 15 K for the 50 caliber version while you await a $5000 or more conversion kit?

Actual DOPE from my (100% stock, except for a grip change) AX50 ELR shooting factory 750AMAXes (Did Browning have 750AMAXES?). Doesn't even hit transonic until about 1 mile, and people successfully load for AMAXes way hotter than factory.

ETA: Oh, and that energy number at 2100 is the equivalent of a 300gr Scenar loaded at book max for .338LM (27" TRG42) at 1050 yards. Have you seen 1,000 yd impacts from a hot 338 Lapua? I suspect you have, so you know the kind of energy they're carrying.

I have definitely been eyeing them, a cheytac bolt would make me hop on it for sure....I should have my TBAC Ultra 50 in a few days to play with on the 37xc, but man it would be so much more of a cool factor hanging off the AX ELR....

There is a guy on here. I forget his name that posted pictures of that rig with that can, and I don’t think he is 6’5” but it is still taller than he is assembled.

And it is no chance occurrence that TBAC uses the AI as their test rig given it’s (too, IMHO) short barrel. 27 inches might actually be the right length for that can. And I allow that everybody has a 50 for a different purpose, mine is to optimize ballistic performance.

Everybody I know with 29 and 30 inch barrels in real life gets about 2600 ft./s at a factory AMAX, and my guess would be the AX50 is doing 2550 tops. I can’t see if you have the muzzle velocity in your chart above.

I get about 2840 out of a 40 inch barrel with 236 grains of RL 50 which is kind of the standard load for the FCSA shooters and some of the custom ammo loading companies. You can go hotter, of course, but I prefer to stay deep within the safe load zone with mine

AX50 ELR gets 2585 FPS (mean). I took a video of me chronographing one shot back when I was still using the Labradar:

I am 5'11''. Yes, the complete rifle is taller than I am.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I should have had MHSA shorten the AI barrel when they threaded and put the brake on this. Even if I am losing a little velocity, I can add a few clicks and be good. The targets arent shooting back.

When this barrel is toast, I will for sure go shorter.
