I have a Defiance Deviant Tactical 6.5 creedmoor I wanted to get the adjustable cheek piece added to the stock. I called LRI and they're $750-$1000 which makes no sense financially for me. Stock doc Joe is not taking work at the moment.

So I guess I'm debating selling this Manners and buying one with an adjustable cheek piece. So if I'm looking at used stocks on ebay, will any Rem 700 stock work or do I have to have one that's cut for a Defiance Deviant/AICS? I have only ever had Tikkas before, and it either fit a T3/T3x or it didn't and life was simple. The R700 world is new to me.

Appreciate your help

I'm pretty sure any short action 700 pattern Manners stock should fit, only areas that would maybe be an issue would be the bolt handle inlet and ejection port inlet not lining up perfectly.
Thank you

The other thing I'm realizing is there is a huge amount of bottom metals. The one on there has an RS logo. Is that Redsnake? It's not an option on any of the order pages. Is that a copy of one of the big name guys?

That sort of says to me that they really don’t want to do that kind of work. Wow.

I had Joe do a stock for me as did a friend of mine and we both have been happy w the job.

I think I did perhaps read that Joe is having a health issue or did I have that wrong? If so, I hope he’s better soonest.

Cheers

Yes having health issues and not taking work

Yeah they charge $350 for the work, $170 for the parts, and $250-$500 to re-paint the stock at the end. Absolutely insane

Yes, Joe is having a hell of a battle with his health right now. Some bad shit has recurred and he is struggling.
I'm sure he and his family could use some "get well" prayers and good wishes.

Short answer is Defiance Deviant is an R700 clone so any R700-footprint stock/chassis SHOULD fit. I have a Deviant which has moved between an MDT ACC chassis and a Manners TCS stock with no issues at all.

Wrt having an adjustable comb added to you existing Manners stock: I would contact Manners and ask if such an addition is even recommended for the model you have. I'm wondering if drilling the necessary holes in the molded stock would weaken it to a point of inviting failure.

Stock doc and LRI have both been doing it for a long time to these kind of stocks. They cut into it, fill it with hardened material, lay in fiberglass to compensate for the lost rigidity in the cut section, and paint to match. It's labor intensive.

I do remember a bit of a to-do between LRI and @Terry Cross where LRI were promoting their hardware with a negative comparison to Terry’s Logger Head hdwr.

So, I’m guessing that’s what they proposed w that incredible pricing.

Now the stock I had done (w Terry’s excellent hdwr) was on an HS Precision stick that came w a Rem 700 5R SS. So perhaps that is much easier to do than your Manners stock construction. But it sure as heck didn’t need to be repainted. Just some Krylon to paint both sides of the cut.

Sorry you’re having such a difficult time getting a cut comb for your stock but I’m even more sorry to hear that Mr. Ducos’ health issues are serious. Again, my best wishes to him for a full and speedy recovery.

I just bought a like new(action screws were still in original MCS baggy) used Manners CS with mini chassis for 800 bucks from the PX here.

Go shopping for a stock with an adjustable cheek piece already installed and sell your Non A one.

This almost seems like an easy fix.

Yeah I just don’t know what all stock inlets are compatible with a defiance deviant tactical. Any R700 or only specific models?

Looks to be rem700 clone with the addition of a side bolt release. Some of the manners aren’t relief cut for a side bolt release, but that is easy to remedy. Even the one I snagged, the side relief isn’t quite right for the aero Solus and needs a small adjustment to it.

A lot of the actions don’t line up ejection port length either, but another easy fix.

I guess there's no issue with dremeling as needed?
