Well, who hasn’t played “Spin the wheel!” To diag some shit-ass electrical gremlin?
Spin the wheel ;)

That's actually a targeted troubleshooting guide! I like it!

My friend used to work for Dodge and he would send me pictures about twice a week of his work bench looking like a transmission yard sale. FCA/Stellantis licenses the HP8 and builds their own and they come apart all the time. I did Alfa Romeo, Maserati and BMW which all used the HP8 from ZF and they NEVER had issues. The new BMW's have some new electro mechanical pile of shit that costs $24,000 for a new one. You can no longer mechanically take them out of park! You have to buy a tool from AGA that disengages the half shaft from the wheel bearing just to push them in the shop. A nightmare for a body shop when disabled. A german
engineer will find his way out of an entire warehouse of pussy just to fuck one technician.

I will say this about ZF 8 speeds: generally speaking, they are as reliable as any transmission made, full stop. However, have something go wrong, and you won't find parts for it. The TC is not rebuildable. Most of the time, an entirely new transmission will be required. The good news is, they will generally outlive the rest of the car.
I have an Audi A8 with ZF 8 speed. 210k miles on it. The engine has required some work. The transmission is still solid. In contrast, my wife's Mercedes E350 7 speed transmission was total toast at 150k miles. MB gave us $7500 for the car, we took it.

I wonder how many of these guys there are? I’ve seen the story of this guy and a video of another.

There must be a few because I have seen two different TV shows documenting this. One guy has like 10 life sentences stacked up. When asked he replied what are they going to give me another one...........IIRC the average pedo lived two weeks before he got to them.

The first or second time I stripped down a First Series Colt Woodsman I had a tiny recoil spring fly across a room with thick carpet. I Looked for it for hours , drug a magnet all over , used bright lights , used a vacuum, nada 😖 It’s STILL there …..somewhere ?? Without it , its just a paper weight
I was sick cause springs for a Woodsman made in 1936 are hard to come by. Finally found one at the Tulsa Gun Show. I’ve never made that mistake again.

I lost the safety detent tab and spring of a CZ75 pre-B. I made the mistake of not reading the manual and disassembling it out side. It is probably still in orbit.

I do all my dissasembly in a plastic bag now....

My educational experience was with a S&W M&P trigger detent and spring in a very dirty and messy garage. A tough lesson.
