so i shot a match this last weekend, there were 30 mph sustained winds gusting to 40 ish. at the beging of the match there was 5 mph winds and my bolt was a little sticky so i decided it would be a good idea to put some lube on it...lol about an hour in my bolt was covered in a thick grime of lube and dust making it mudd. i wiped it all off, cleaned where necicary and ran the rest of the match with a very sticky dust covered bolt. anyways long story short i learned a lesson.

looking for some advice and personal experiences. what do you do for normal bolt lube? what do you do for could weather bolt lube?(i know this has been covered before, i did search), and most important what do you do in extremely dusty environments?

Re: dealing with dusty windy conditions.

I always keep a can of brake cleaner in my range bag. If things get gummed up I just hose everything down and start over, my rifles like brake clean, and get a light film of oil. When it's cold or dusty use some dry graphite lube, stuff goes a long way and will keep things moving without the sticky effect. Just remember it's not oil so it wont keep corrosion out.

Get the stuff in the squeeze bottle that is made for door locks, it kind of comes out in a puff. I just aim the nozzle towards the bolt near the lugs, and where it rides through the action, then work the bolt a few times and you should be good to go.
