We are here, Phone rings off the hook most days. If we are on the other 2 lines we wont answer. You can always shoot me a PM, email or whatever and we will get back. Some days our call back list gets 2-3 days long!

I'm using a SS 16x on the BMG right now. 68moa up and 50 down. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Sightron fixed power, just not sure on 16x or 20x. It just depends on how my current 16x does this summer. </div></div>

I have the IVEY rings and my review of them is that they are ok. When you start getting into the steep angles the actual moa angle vs what the scope rings say are way off. I had to make a conversion table to know what I really had.

Let me know of a date for the ELR shoot and hopefully I can tag along for a day.

Very cool, thanks for the info. Do you get more or less actual angle from the rings than they say? Are they on a canted base? Do you use them to adjust for different zeros, or actually to dial in elevation for shots?

Re: SHWW Group

You actually get more angle, if I remember it is somewhere between 160-170moa. I origionally had them on a flat base .50bmg rifle of mine with a nightforce 12-42 on it. Now since I got rid of the .50 I have it on my .338 snipetac. But I plan on getting a different scope for that rifle and taking off the scope rings. They are very high off the rifle and I need to have a massive cheek spacer to make it work.

Basically for use I would zero the base and zero the scope for 200 yards. Then, say if i was shooting out a ways and I needed 56.25moa, I would want to set the rings for 56 so I would calculate what I actually had to set the base for and set it to that. And I would dial the .25 moa on the scope. Then after the first shot if I was off I would dial the scope to get it the rest of the way.

Re: SHWW Group

I have an extra leather cheek piece riser made for a Manners T4 stock. It is sort of a burgundy/reddish brown color with a cut out for the left side flush cup. I'll PIF it to one of the shooters in this bunch as I'll be the FNG for a while. Just moving to Puget sound area. If anyone wants it, send me an email and I'll get it out to you. If you wait until next week, the movers will be here and it will be a while before it gets out.

The piece wraps around the top of the butt stock, lacing up on the bottom of the stock like a shoelace.

I thought I would like it, but I actually shoot much better without it. I guess it is a little too high for what I thought I needed. It should raise your face up about a three eighths to five eighths of an inch...or something like that.

Re: SHWW Group

I don't think it will work with that stock. The Manners stock is solid, and it fits completely differently.

If you need to have a riser for this stock, it will be easy to do. If you get a piece of old sleeping mat (that foam that is about a quarter of an inch thick) and use Barge cement, or a similar type of contact cement, and laminate the pieces together until you get about the correct height, it will fit. Then, just glue a piece of leather over the top piece of foam, and glue (or tape) the foam onto the current cheekpiece.

You could even cut or file the foam with a wood rasp so it is thick on top, and thin on the side so that it doesn't push your face to the left and away from proper alignment with the scope.

Neat rifle though. The rings on it look really tall, and could be the reason it is hard to align your eyes with the scope. I had to swap out some of my rings on various rifle builds in order to get to the right height scope without having a bunch of extra rings left over.

Extra parts are dangerous for me. I start thinking how those parts could easily become another rifle if only I got..... Well, most of the people here have had those thoughts. Anyhow, that is why I try to get rid of extra parts as quickly as possible, otherwise, I might start thinking about how I could build another rifle around them.

Re: SHWW Group

After looking over the calender. How about the weekend of 6/25-26 for an ELR shoot. I can do another one later if people want, but the later it gets the hotter, more mirage, more fire danger, etc.
Those in favor, say Eye.

Re: SHWW Group

I will be gone that weekend for another shoot I am doing (300-2700 yards). I would be up for one in the August-september, time frame.

The rings on this ones are the IVEY adjustable ones that give 150 moa out of it. That is why they are so high.

Hey Glen -

Thanks for the response. Al did call me back, unfortunately, I couldn't answer when he called. He said you were working with your new CNC machine. Just a quick question or two RE: the SRS - Would I need to do anything other than take my current sling studs out and screw it on? Do the screws come with? Do you have units ready to ship? Unfortunately, I am on a bit of a tight timeframe for this piece.

Re: SHWW Group

Many thanks to Carl Taylor and all those involved in putting together this years Steel Challenge. Congratulations to Chad for being the individual winner and Jesse and Travis for their team win. I had a great time, even though I missed way more than I hit. It was a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and it was great to meet so many new ones. Stu, you got some great picture of everyone. The match is for a great cause, if any of you have a moment please check out Camp Patriot.

Re: SHWW Group

Sounds like folks had a good time at Kettle Falls. I'm gonna need to quit talkin' about doin' one of these and just do one. You guys wouldn't mind a new guy bringing up the rear would you?

Re: SHWW Group

Great match and a good day for shooting. Thanks again to Carl and all the volunteers that made it possible.

It was nice to meet new people. Thanks to MTETM and farmchick for the lift up and down from the shoot, hope your drive home is going well.

Good shooting Tribe!

Re: SHWW Group

Chad,

I couldn't imagine a guy that deserved the victory anymore than you. You have been working hard and building your skills and obviously it is paying off for you. If you weren't such a humble guy it might have been a very long ride home for the rest of us that you thoroughly spanked. Congrats brother I look forward to many more fun road trips!!

Re: SHWW Group

WOW! What a blast! Thanks guys... still pretty frickin' amped... been on cloud-9... TSI will tell ya'... I couldn't get the stupid grin off of my face ALL night!

Win, lose or draw, I look forward to this match ALL year long, since the first time Stu invited me out a couple of years ago (thanks again & again Stu!). It's one of the most beautiful settings in Washington, and the COF is just flat out FUN.

Carl and "The Kettle Falls Mafia" are <span style="text-decoration: underline">Grade A</span> ALL the way... To me, it really is, just a PRIVILEGE to be able to join in this event, and to even hold an association with such a fantastic group of folks.

Scott... thanks for putting together the road trip... really made the whole weekend an experience that won't be forgotten........... (unfortunately that goes for Danny's part too....

)

Also.... a shout out to "Team Blind Squirrel's" better half... Tyler... if by some odd chance you are reading this.... you da' man - your wind is money.... I got this

Finally, and most importantly.... if you haven't, please check out the link. http://www.camppatriot.org/ it's what this thing is all about.

One more time.... Thanks Carl.... Truly appreciated.

good thing the match called for 120rds huh? even us who were not in the top ten didn't even need close to that many. I don't know anyone who even shot 100rds including a few guys that were in the bottom places.

I didn't know this would of this much concern. The number of total rounds that could have been fired were 101.

At the last minute, I had to make a decision on a course of fire that would have taken another 15 roudns. The other 4 rounds allowcated for the match were in case someone lost rounds / had mis-fires etc. Hope that this helps out all that are concerned with the reasons behind the round count.

Results have been emailed to competitors. If you didn't get the results email your partner or myself.

I'm trying to get the forum to translate the spreadsheet correctly. Once I get that done I will post the results.

carl i hope my comment was taken the wrong way, i wasn't bothered at all by it. I just kept thinking towards the end of the day that there was going to be some suprise stage that you weren't telling us about. You do have a tendency to keep details about the cof to yourself, which by the way i think is awesome!!! I love not really knowing what you are going to throw at us, it forces us as competitors to try and train for any and everything. You design a hell of a course and i will be damned if i ever miss one of your matches. Not only are they truly exciting and challenging, but they also are in support of a great cause.

thanks again for taking the time to set this thing up, and a special thanks to all the ro's that put up with are endless stupid questions.

Re: SHWW Group

While I'm not a Western Wa guy I had to step in for a moment and just express how much I enjoyed this match. I'm still fairly new to the long range game and this was an awesome learning/humbling experience. Came home with a short list of things to work on to improve before next year.

Carl and the KF Mafia were awesome. All the RO's were A+++. Everyone was super cool, super professional and laid back at the same time. I can't express how impressed I was with everyone involved in putting this on.

I heard rumors of some Premier failures and just want to say that mine treated me awesome again. Heard of some AI mag failures and again, mine didn't miss a beat. Just sounded like some freak gremlin issues came out for some folks.

I'm glad the rain didn't follow all us Portland folk and kept us dry. For those who didn't count, know, or care, there were about 6 teams from Portland and Tri County Gun Club up there.

And just to put a face to my name here is one of Stu's pics of myself and my partner. Team 30, I'm in the black shirt and jeans, name is Jake.

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks to all for such a great time on our one date a year without the kidlets. Big shouts to Carl, all the ROs and the rest of the crew. MTETM and I have made some incredible friends, even if at least one of you is off the Christmas card list for letting the other half fall in love with that danged AI AW. The gremlins and the infamous broken gen 1 Premier toggle are history..they're shipping the new version and Huge thanks to Tyler and Scott for saving us the day before the match. We expect to see all of you at Hotel Miller in the next year for antelope deer prairie dogs and the like. Coffee will be on and the range hot.

Re: SHWW Group

marty all i can say is you are beyond entertaining!!! you were the life of the party saturday as we were all drinking away our misses (except humble chad who just sat there smiling).

I honestly dont think there is a better match to attend, it may not have 40k in prizes but the shooters and match location are to die for. Can't wait for next years match, carl you never dissapoint.

Re: SHWW Group

I'd like to echo my thanks to Carl and rest as well. This was the first time I'd ever shot a match like this and wasn't sure what to expect. Definitely glad I went, shot some great stages and met some awesome people.

Nothing weird Chad...don't worry about it. Congratulations...you shot well. We appreciate your comments as well regarding our team work. By the looks of the scoring layout, they had Jesse and I swapped....I was shooter 1 and he was shooter 2. Doesn't bother me to much. I was more impressed by how well our new cartridge design did than I was concerned with the scoring. Especially considering the new rifles were barely broken in before we went to the match. The most wind we held all day was 1moa...me happy with that! Its a fun and challenging match, and good to see everyone. Looking forward to next year already.
