I won a free John Pierce action from Storm Mountain comp two weekends ago and He needs the specs on what I want. My team already has an 18" Larue OBR and a 6.5 Grendel 16" Recce build, so Im kinda hard press on what build I should make for a bolt action.
Caliber, length of action, trigger ect.. Also keep in mind Im no moneybags. I'm prob going to put on an HDMR h58 scope on this, for its what I have.

Thank you

.300WM, 22in barrel, Manners T-5A with 90%CF and mini chassis.

Agree with zipollini! I have one on order already so might be a bit biased

My build is for F-T/R, long action .308 with 30" Krieger.

Re: John Pierce action and bolt rifle ?

I would build another tube gun per zipollini's suggestion. I am also biased because i already have one & want to get another.

What do you plan to do with it? Hunting? Are there any new calibers you'd like to try? It's a pretty open ended question. If you want something cheap to shoot you could do the usual 308.

Re: John Pierce action and bolt rifle ?

Congrats on winning the action!

I'm biased as well. That tube gun of his looks awesome. I have a MAK.

If you don't reload then consider 6.5 Creedmooor.

If you do reload try 6x47L. My load is sending 115's at 3020 fps. I got the barrel melonited this time and have only .002 throat erosion at 750 rounds.

Re: John Pierce action and bolt rifle ?

for barrel length though, i dont want to go to long, would like to keep it within reason for I work alot in urban hide settings. Our OBR runs 18" and its a tack driver, was thinking maybe 20-22" max for the bolt. also would like to run magazine fed, preferably the AW .308 mags. What type of trigger should I look at?

Re: John Pierce action and bolt rifle ?

Give John a call and let him know what you're wanting to do with the rifle. He'll have some good ideas for you based on previous builds.

Re: John Pierce action and bolt rifle ?

I have an Eliseo RTM tube setup with a Pierce action. It is setup as a switch barrel in .308 and 6x47L. All the work done by C. Dixon in SD. The rifle drives tacks with both cartridges. Really liking the 6x47L. It works flawlessly in the long action repeater with Alpha mags.
