Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

Its good if you are on the road or have a long commute and you dont feel like sitting on your gun all day.

I am tempted to get one as well. I actually went with a shoulder rig for the same above reasons.

Let someone look in my car all they want. If they need to see the muzzle end of that barrel they will if not most people wont even see it.

I would NEVER leave the weapon unattended in that thing. EVER!!

But to get in your car unholster put it there and then reholster when you exit the vehicle I see no draw backs!

I agree with Nomad, looks fairly handy.

I've got an extra Safariland ALS I think it is, always thought about jamming it between my seat and center console and finding a way to secure it to the seat frame/slider. Good while driving, not to be left there while running into a restaurant.

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

I can see it being handy, but whenever I drive, I just tuck the whole holster next to the seat. I definitely wouldn't leave the pistol in the vehicle, and even just a holster without a pistol I would imagine that might invite someone to break in.

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

I have no problem w/ vehicle mounted holsters... I mounted and old uncle mike's kydex holster in my console... so as I'm driving it's at my right hand (strong hand) but it's also out of sight, and in my particular application, the console is steel and lockable...

I've also seen people who mounted a holster to their seat

but I think the one in the OP is in a bad place, and it doesn't look solid, looks like a cheap POS holster, doesn't look easy or natural to draw

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

The Wyoming version is to put the holster on an old leather belt, wrap the belt around the steering wheel so the holster and handgun are at 12 o'clock and can be reached through the steering wheel.

Years ago, seen several like that on traffic stops in the NE corner of the state.

Wyoming has NO laws regarding transporting a loaded or unloaded firearm in a motor vehicle, unless one is carrying concealed ON YOUR PERSON then you fall under state CFP (concealed firearm permit) regs.

Here, if there's a bucking horse on the plate, there's probably a gun in the rig.

"If you decide to pick that up while I'm here at the window, PLEASE put your left index finger in your left ear FIRST, because it's going to be really loud on this side of the truck. Thanks."

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

I don't know what the laws are in your state. But, in Washington, if you have a loaded pistol in your vehicle it must be on your person and you must have a concealed weapons permit. Otherwise, it must be unloaded and not within reach of the driver. Might want to check into your state laws first before doing anything like that.

The next issue you'll probably run into is getting a felony stop any time you get pulled over because you have a gun hanging from your steering column which the cop will most likely see hanging there.

Buy a shoulder hoster and carry in comfort.

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

Don't think I'd buy one. Looks super simple to make. 2 J hooks, webbing, and Fastex buckle. I like the belt idea too.

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

If you are constantly getting in and out, or just going for a short trip, unholster when you get in the vehicle and stick it between the seat and the center console, don't even need a holster there in most vehicle makes.

If not doable, place underneath the thigh opposite your strong hand, with thumb side of grip down. You can adjust it more towards your knee or butt as needed. You'd be surprised how comfortable this can be, from j-frames to full sizes.

Course, that's if you're really paranoid about someone coming up to your window at a traffic light or something. If you're on any kind of extended trip, who's going to come up to your window when you're going down the road at 55-65 mph? Hell, put it anywhere, on the passenger seat even, doesn't matter.

I just imagine bumping my knees into that thing. Granted, everyone is different, you might like it. I'm the type of person who wants ease of use and comfort out of all equipment, so if something makes my life easier, I'd use it. That being said, I don't think I'd ever buy something like that, just don't have a need for it.

Incorrect. Please feel free to study the laws of your state:

There is no concealed carry law anymore. Anybody can conceal now days unless there is something I missed with the bill.

Re: Steering Column Mounted Holster . Anyone Have 'Em

Still a good idea to get the permit though, especially if you do carry outside the state. SD, MT, CO, ND,and more, all have reciprocity to our permit. No permit you are a criminal.

My Glock 27 pretty much disappears in the Galco I carry with. As long as I take my wallet out when driving my ass doesn't get numb! LMAO

I think a hard mount is the way to go though. Think what that 32 oz piece of steel becomes in a wreck unsecured!!!
Its a frickin shit storm in side a vehicle during a rollover!!!
