If I were to engrave with my new Hermes after cerakoting.....is the edge going to be sharp? Obviously assuming proper application.

Re: cerakote question

I want to try a "two tone" on a stainless barrel, but I have not tried to work through the cerakote.

Re: cerakote question

As long as the coating is applied correctly you should be fine. Post a pic when you do it. Should look good. Hope this helps. Paul.

Re: cerakote question

Most mechanical engravers will cut throught the Cerakote just fine it you are trying to engrave after coating, which doesnt makse sense to me.

If you engrave before you Cerakote the pistol the Cerakote will not fill in engraving that is three thousanths or deeper, as its surface thickness is only .1 mil or one thousandth thick.

Most CNC mechanical type of engravers cut at 5 thousanths or more in depth, so yo should be fine and the edges of the engraving remian crisp.

Re: cerakote question

i have a pretty good hunch it will be fine but it sure wouldn't hurt to try it on a scrap piece of similar material and finish first.

Re: cerakote question

Thanks guys.

Beanland, are going through it with the diamond or carbide?

Red creek, I am quite familiar with the effects of cerakoting after, but that is going to make it kinda tough to get stainless writing on a coated barrel.
