In my FFP.........CA
I know its been discussed previously, but I'm wondering if there has been any new advances in this area. I'm planning my next build and it involves an Ax Chasis and the Badger M2008 action. I know badger will inlet the AICS Chasis but does anyone inlet the Ax for the Badger action? I've hears that the action is quite abit longer and that may force the modification of the fore end. Hope someone can inlet it or that severely impedes the.progress in my next build. Thanks guys.

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

I have heard that the AX AICS chassis has less material to inlet/allow clearance than the original AICS chassis.

I'm sure someone can modify the AX chassis to work with the M2008 you will have to call around and get some opinions from the smiths themselves that have worked with the AX chassis (GAP, Tooley custom rifles, Phoenix custom rifles, etc). Area's of interest would be the recoil lug area, maybe the rear tang area, and as you said the forearm.

I just ordered a defiance action for an AX chassis that I have on order and even I didn't get the "yea it will drop in" deal. In short I ended up ordering a "drop in" action with the exception of a heavy rear tang and .312 recoil lug. No extended barrel tenon, no extended rail.

Hopefully someone can chime in here. (tag)

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

The M2008 sits up a little higher in my AICS than the R700 and clones do. After looking at the AX and XLR chassis with the round fore end I thought it might have more to do with the fore end fit than the action itself. But that is just my twisted little brain and not a calipers and engineering opinion.
Anyone else care to weigh in on the theory?

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

I appreciate your responce, and yeah I sure hope there is someone that can do the inletting. I'm wanting this build in a 6.5 Lapua. I've had this set up before but with a Surgeon 591. Great action but I've got my mind set on the Badger and Ax combo.

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

I have three builds on M2008 actions and I love them all. They all sit in AICS chassis that were milled to accept them. If you can't get the AX/M2008 combo then look at an AICS with Viperskins or a XLR chassis. My son has the latter on his R700 5R and it is a very good chassis system.

It'll cost me in the vicinity of $3000.00 more to do it that way.

Euro optics
Quick adjust Ax 6.5cm $7700.00

Non quick adjust Ax 6.5cm $6700.00

So you can build a badger m2008 6.5cm in an ax for 3700?

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

Ax Chasis $1400.00
Badger M2008 $1000.00
Barrel. $400.00
Timney Trigger. $135.00
Gunsmithing. $600.00
Total. $3535.00

Add another $500.00 or so into that just in case and make it an even $4000.00
That's still $2700.00 cheaper than buying the Ax rifle.

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

Now I see that the Accuracy International AE Mk III is around $4000.00. I guess I could throw some Viper Skins on it and make a barrel swap from a .308 to a 6.5 Lapua. That maybe a cheaper way to go. What to the AI barrels go for?

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

You should just give Mile High Shooting a call. Diann, Randy or any of the crew will give you all the info you need about AI rifles and how much what you want will cost. They're great!

Re: Ax Chasis Badger M2008

Any updates on this? I'd like to give some thought to a Badger M2008 build in an AICS AX chassis but don't know if there are any 'smiths out there doing the work.
