Sidearms & Scatterguns Best and worst (for fun)

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best,

A Springfield 1911 A1 I built about ten years ago. Factory frame slide and barrel everything else was Wilson combat upgrades. Frame to slide fit was extremely smooth with no play, like it was riding on precision bearings.

Worst,

Ruger P-90.
Felt like it had 3" of mushy trigger travel. Shortly after I shot it the owner somehow got the slide locked open, and could not get it to release...ever. The gun went to a gunsmith who after a year returned an abused bag of parts as my buddy was transfering to a new unit.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

best, built by brad thorolson from AMU

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

By no means a pistol afficiando by far but since you asked ....1 from an average joe....

Wilson Combat KZ-45 the best ( I still carry it ) & a
Beretta 92FS

Colt Peacemaker Revolver ...the worst
it came from the factory with fixed iron sights , shot 2' low and 1' left @ 10yds

close 2nd to this one was a Beretta FS96 that would not hold groups for nuthin'

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

The best:
My Combat Precision Technologies custom 1911. Built off a Wilson frame/slide set. And a great 4lb trigger.

The worst:
My buddies keltec .380. Hard for me to get a grip, attrocious trigger pull

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best - Springfield 1911
Worst - Glock I kid I kid . I own 3 Glocks but I loathe the feel of the triggers .

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best: General Dynamics M197 mounted on a modified Stryker at GD's weapons testing range (firing incindiary ammunition)...it's kind of a handgun. The firing button was hand held.
for a regular handgun though, I'd have to say a CT Brian custom gov't model 1911. Perfect trigger pull, absolutely a dream to shoot.

Worst: Bulldog .44 Special...horrible trigger, poor ergonomics, terrible recoil handling...btw...anyone wanna buy the one I have

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

I cant comment on the best. The best I own is an M&P 40 with some work to the trigger that Is my favorite to shoot.
Worst, I got caught up in the Ruger LCP phase a couple years ago and bought one for my wife without handling it first. She hated it, I hate it. I cant give it away. For the best selling 380 ever, I still cant figure out who is buying them, bc no one I know wants it.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Without a doubt the best, is the Model 52 Smith 38 Wad Cutter gun.

The worse is a semi auto that I can't shoot, but have to keep because I promised never to sell or trade another gun.

I wont name it because its me not the gun, Its reliable enough I just cant hit nothing with it. It's the only one of my pistols/revolvers I can't hit anything with...........but like I said, its me not the gun.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best:

Rimfire: My wife's High Standard Supermatic Citation. Hangs on the end of the arm like it belongs there. Trigger like a breaking glass rod. Sights that Stevie Wonder could use, and accuracy that humbles anyone with a heartbeat.

Centerfire: An MOA Maximum in 243. Hitting a 10 inch plate at 300 yards was downright boring. These things are capable of half inch groups at 100 yards and they are incredibly well-machined.

Worst:

Rimfire: Rohm RG10 revolver. Even though it had fewer than 200 rounds through it and was clean and lubed, I still had to rotate the cylinder after pulling back the hammer to make sure it was indexed properly. It failed to go bang about 50% of the time if I didn't. Couldn't hit a big coffee can from 50 feet consistently (probably because 1/3 of the bullet was getting shaved off on the forcing cone due to the piss-poor chamber alignment)!

Centerfire: Has to be a Taurus PT25. Inaccurate, unreliable, poor ergos, and it exploded in my hand. The sharp inside corner of the slide came forward and punched the primer as the cartridge was busy misfeeding and nosing down in the mag...luckily the 25 is a low-pressure round and I didn't get bloodied. Still rate them as the most worthless modern firearm made.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best? An old S&W M27 Highway Patrolman that belonged to my Granddad. The action was as slick as snot on a doorknob & it sat in my hand perfect.

Worst? That's easy. A POS Cobra 9mm derringer. That damn thing wouldn't even make a decent trotline weight.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

My best handgun is probably my Glock 20 with the LW long slide, the Nighthawk AAC is really close though.

My worst handgun was a Desert Eagle 44 mag, that was the dumbest purchase I have ever made in my life.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best: Tie between my SACS Pro Operator or STI Tactical

Worst: HK USP-C

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best is an Ed brown special forces or my glock 17L

Worst any keltec one of my dumbass friends bought after I told them not too and then gets pawned off on me to see why it won't shoot

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

best/favorite: S&W model 586. I bought it for my brother a while back; got a killer deal on it. But, I wish i would've kept it for myself. He had some trigger work done on it and the staging and feel is awesome!

worst: Taurus PT-22. One of my coworkers bought it and we had it at the range recently. Dumb little gun FTF/FTE every other round. I shot two mags and called it done.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best field pistol I have ever seen/ shot for fit/ accuracy etc is the MEUSOC pistol, The mk 23 is in second just because it's f-ing huge, ergonomics and control positions are better than the 1911 tho.

Best non field pistol. STI Edge worth every penny and shot 1.25 inch groups at 25 and less muzzle flip. What can you say, awesome weapon.

Worst- The kar 9 my sister bought without consulting me. With 2 magazines through it the slide tangs were fucked up and had 3 malfunctions in like 20 rounds.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Either my Halfman custom Kimber or Les Baer Premier II. That was before Halfman decided he didn't have time to finish his projects and kept work for up to three years.

Worst was a Brolin Patriot. The gun malfed like crazy and then completely locked up to the extent I couldn't get it apart.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best is subject and I've not sampled nearly enough to work on that list so I'll stick with worst.

Hands down the first centerfire I bought......A Bryco 9mm. Straight blowback, kicked like mule and couldn't keep shots on a 2x2' peice of plywood at 25 yards. Bought a Witness-P shortly there after and it was 1000 times the gun.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

My best auto is without a doubt Para Ordnance 1911 LDA, double stack. The little F*ker with eat everything! Including a .45ACP bullet in a .40S&W case... It cycled perfectly. Case was split in half down to the lip, but the gun was fine and even finished the mag.
Best revolver is my Smith 686, hogue grips, completely worked by the S&W custom shop. My favorite trigger of any gun.

Worst is my Beretta PX4 in .45ACP. Doesn't feed square-nosed lead bullets at all. FTE about every 5 rounds or so. The finish on it sucks too, as kydex has rubbed it raw on the edges of the slide. Haven't sold it yet because it fits my hand perfectly.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

hey noah do you know ernie bishop?ive shot several of those moa pistol and i kinda like em.my smith did one in a 7mm beltless mag and it was a pleasure to shoot except for the holland muzzle break.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best: Ruger Vaquero .357 Mag Custom that was set up by a professional cowboy action shooter. Absolutely amazing pistol and was a tack driver no matter who fired it.

Worst: S&W Bodyguard .38. Bought it for my wife because it fit her hands perfectly and she prefers wheel guns. Even shooting standard load .38 Special that thing snapped HARD in the hand and my wife, myself and three other very seasoned shooters at the range couldn't hit a damn thing with it. Got rid of it after the cylinder popped off (supposed to be a factory only serviceable part). Never worked right again even after repair.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best- One of my revolvers. Probably the Python, but I also really like my Ruger Redhawk for stupid hot 44 reloads.

Worst- Ruger MKIII. 22's just don't excite me for some reason.

Re: Best and worst (for fun)

Best: kimber eclipse pro ii, shot like a dream right outta the box. Easy 3" groups at 25 yrds

Worst: colt 1991 compact, bit the crap outta my hand from mag floorplate and thumb safety. Horrible groups too!
