I had a chance to get my 1911 coated in TacOps Green and Black T. It seemed like a good idea as I seriously underestimated the humidity here on the East Coast as compared to CA and saw tiny specs of rust on my beloved 1911 (the shame!!).

Those guys at Birdsong know what they're about! Thanks to MikeR for his permission in using his TacOps Green-T colour. It'll match my Tango-51 when I get that.

As some may know from the pics of the TacOps rifles, the Green-T is a bitch to photograph accurately as it responds to different lighting in different ways but it so happens that overcast, natural light has yielded as close to a true representation as I can manage. No crappy looking mustard brown, this is the real deep green.

Enjoy the pics:

Here you can see how Birdsong coat everything - the barrel and all black parts are coated in Black-T. That includes the spring, magwell, safety grip, bushing etc.

Nice!! I just picked up a Sig Sauer 1911 today. Hopefully mine is as good as everyone says they are.

I would get the mag's replaced with somehting reputable and you should have no problems. Mine in the picture is past 3k is rounds with easily about a half dozen different ammo types and not a problem.

Damn that looks sweet

I'm curious how it'll hold up...

My understanding of Birdsong is that while it's not the most durable finish out there in regards to scratch resistance (although still very tough), it's one of the best for total corrosion protection. Even if the finish is worn off and you're seeing 'silver' the protection is within the metal at this point and so there's still very high levels of anti-corrsion protection. I plan on using this 1911 a great deal more so I'll update accordingly.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

Thanks guys, I'm very pleased with it. Next pic will be of it next to the Tango.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

I really like the paint job!! I was wondering when you purchased that TacOps? I thought they came with a rail but I could be mistaken. Or maybe a new addition

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

The rifle I ordered a while ago but I delayed delivery because I changed some parts in mid-flow and then Mike had some supplier issues that are resolved now. The Sig is their standard XO model but they have others with rails.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

I can't say enough good things about the guys at Black-T..Wally and Tyler are good people with great values..I've had a variety of things coated by them and the quality is always outstanding..currently waiting on my SIG P228 I sent them several weeks ago

When I was at their shop, they showed me some tools and machinery that had been coated 20 years ago. Although the finish had worn off, they were absolutely corrosion free. Apparently, Black-T embeds into the grain structure of the metal and bonds at an atomic level still providing corrosion resistance even after the coating has worn.

Another great thing about the coating is its low coefficient of drag and resistance to chip or flake. This is why all the internals can be coated (even springs) without any issue and provide a form of lubrication for metal parts.

Very nice piece there!

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

Looking good! Funny thing, I was also looking at getting a sig 1911. They seem to be good deal.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

KT - from my perspective, it's a great pistol! Look for a deal and you'll be happy with it.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

That's just freaking sweeeeet

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

any news on how it's holding up?

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

The finish is holding up very well. I'm up to about 3,5k rounds and this pistol just keeps going. There is one 'silver' spot on the frame from wear along the rails. Other than that, I'm very happy with it all.

I'm considering selling this though and going with the FNX-45 tactical. Now that I can, I want something that will take a can and I've heard nothing but good things about the FNX (or FNP, same thing really as far as I can tell).

going to a plastic gun eh?

it's ok, I have 3 plastic pistols myself. lol

why the FNP, and not somethign like MP or glock? they all can take cans too.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

well, it's half-plastic to be fair...

I like the slide which allows for easy install of a red dot (RMR) and also the 15 rounds of .45ACP, the integral rail and the general uber-Mall Ninja element of it (can't be overlooked).

I love the 1911, there's nothing wrong with it, but I only want one pistol for the home (I'll have something else for carry) and from my research, it makes sense to have one that can house a light and a quick target sight. I simply don't believe I'll have enough training to keep my cool and use the night sights and ensure proper grip etc with the 1911. Plus, I get double the chances to hit the target than I would with an 8 round pistol.

If you think my reasoning is flawed, please let me know your thoughts.

Let me know if you're truly going to sell that POS XO with the craptastic Birdsong on there, I'll give you $50 for it since we're friends.

Do yourself a favor and buy a $200 shotgun for home defense and forget about using a pistol at all.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

Love the coating job on the SIG, thanks for posting and sharing.

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

thanks for the responses guys. I'm going to follow Bohem's irritatingly sensible suggestion and get better with what I have before I trade for something 'better'...

Re: Sig 1911 XO in TacOps Green-T and Black-T

What type/brand holster do you use? Ive heard the sigs don't fit in most standard 1911 holsters, and i plan to buy one soon.

I'm getting one custom made for IWB. I have to have one made for IDPA or I could use the standard Sig holster which is pretty clunky but seems to work fine.

Here's what I'm getting (eventually):
