i took my new 700p to the range today to get it sighted in and see what we could do. conditions were high 40s, light wind, clear and sunny.

i started break-in/sight-in firing 3 shots then cleaning with hoppes and a patch. did this twice, then went to 5 shots before cleaning. shot fifteen went dead center in the bullseye. at this point i stopped with scope adjustments, and fired my first 3 rd group.

i let a friend fire 2 rds, cleaned again, then fired my next 3 shot group

i was pretty happy with this. let my buddy fire two more and we came home. all shots fired with a bi-pod and rear bag (my wedgie from triad was a little too small, so i'll be getting the large or something else) from a bench.

this is my first time with a magnified optic and shooting for precision, so i'm thrilled on 2 counts, one that the rifle will shoot this well, and two that i can shoot this well. i guess my reading, .22lr practice with irons, and dry firing has paid off.

i have to say i'm less than thrilled with the x-mark trigger, and will be swapping it for a timney in short time. if i drop the stock to install the trigger, will my zero change?

thoughts and suggestions welcome...

This is true... got my Borka before I took mine out shooting...

Re: first range trip...with pics and questions

borka...check. had it here before the rifle. what a fantastic little tool! so glad i took the advice of members here and bought it. action was out of the stock for cleaning when the rifle arrived and then properly torqued. i'll re-torque once the new trigger is installed. i'll just re-check my zero when all done.

can't wait to make it to the range again.

Re: first range trip...with pics and questions

Your zero won't be off much at all. Don't be too suprised if it hasn't changed at all. I remove my barreled actions from my stocks all the time and rarely do I need to make any scope adjustments afterwards.

Re: first range trip...with pics and questions

the main reason i was asking is because i'd like to install the zero stop shims on the scope. but perhaps i'll wait until the new trigger is installed, check zero, and install them then. i took a photo of where they were set before we left the range, just to have as a reference.
