Hello,

I've had a Vortex Crossfire for close to 1 year. 2 weeks ago I noticed the windage adjustment moving every time I fired the rifle. I contacted Vortex and shipped the scope out for repair. Received it several days ago. THe process was very quick and the customer service extremely responsive. The first couple shots fired today...40 to be exact were spot on after I sighted everything in again. Then the same problem began to occur again. THis time all shots moving left as I watched the windage adjustment click away a 1/4" at a time. I'm going to contact Vortex again tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues with this rifle scope. Thank you.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

You have a real decent rifle why not opt to put a bit better glass on it? I'm sure vortex would consider allowing you to upgrade. There is a reason the scope is $100...

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

As mentioned, it's a $100 scope, you do get what you pay for.

You could find some way to tighten up the tension on that windage knob. Maybe pull the cap off, apply the lightest coat of silicone or rubber cement with your finger. Try that.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

Yes I am working on getting a new scope right now. I've been researching a couple options. Nightforce...really pricy... Weaver and Sightron. Trying to determine which way to go. Want to spend between 800 and 1400 at most.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

I'm guessing most of you will be recommending the Nightforce :)

Good luck ever seeing one. That was the one I chased and never caught, 8-32 was my second choice. Might get lucky and find one for sale here but you better act quick if one shows up, don't last long.

I've got a crossfire like yours and once you look through some nice glass you'll kick yourself in the ass for wasting the rounds on the other sighting it in, no bull buddy!

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

Can't speak to the Crossfire but I've had inexpensive scopes give me fits. It's not just the money spent on ammo. It's also the time lost. You'll never get that back.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

The Sightron is nice. I have a friend with the one you are looking at and it seems to be a solid scope. He got it from a partial credit from an older model he sent in for repair. You should contact Vortex though and give them the chance to make it good. I'd bet you could get some credit towards another model. I have several Vortex scopes from the Viper line on up and like them a lot.

Also keep an eye on the classifieds here. You can get some very nice scopes at great prices.

This scope is a pile of shit- no joke... I've seen more issues in person and brought up about these scopes than just about anything else. I have a friend who is getting ready to send his in a second time for a reticle canting on its own... same thing the first time.

I would advise you ask them if you can upgrade to a Viper PST. It's going to cost you some out of pocket but you shouldn't keep having these issues.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

Thank you everyone for your input. I can't say it was a total loss on this scope I have put a little over 1000 rounds through the rifle and only started having problems recently.
After doing a bit of research I've found several posts from people with the same problem. While Vortex customer service was responsive and friendly I have issue with sending more money to them for an upgrade. I'm a bit turned off by this experience with the equipment failing. After sending it to them once for repair and getting it back only to have the same problem occur on the first time out I no longer wish to waste my time and resources. Looking to pay for a quality scope and be done with it.

no question about it the best warrenty in the world is the one you dont need. that said did you think you were getting top of the line quality for 100 bucks? i highly doubt any 100 dollar scope will be error free

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

No of course I didn't think it would be the best quality. I was thinking....I'd like to get out to the range and shoot my new gun and not wait another 7 or 8 months to save up for a scope :)

I just started in this a year ago.... now I'm hooked and will be upgrading my equipment. When posting this I was simply trying to find out if others have had similar experiences with this scope or if I'm seeing things when I think I see my windage and elevation settings moving all by themselves.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

My mistake, already copied that link. Lost track of what I posted already.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

So I also have the Crossfire discussed here and had to send it back as well because it wouldn't hold zero and after about 40 rounds a piece of stuff flaked off on the reticle. they fixed it but it still doesn't hold on my .308. What really pisses me off is I paid close to $200 for it from Optics Planet when I bought it about a year ago. Does anyone have experience with Vortex on whether they will give you a "deal" on upgrading to a Viper or other? They do seem to have good CS.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

Yeah, so I e-mailed Vortex and did get a nice response back from them that said they could trade me for a Diamondback in a 4-14x44 which doesn't work for me. They said ALL their other scope options a back-ordered for months. they did say if I sent my C-fire back they would refund me, unforetunately I have no idea what I did with the receipt and I bought it off Optics Planet anyway. Can't believe they don't have any product available.

Re: Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50.... issue.

I have a couple crossfires that I bought for 2 of my rifles. One that lives in Nevada and the other on my tikka lite 308 that I never shoot. When I zeroed the scope in on the tikka, I noticed that the turrets moved after 1 or 2 shots, but the tikka lite kicks hard. I sent the scope in and they did what they could. They did say there wasn't much that could be done and recommended a upgrade to a better line of scopes. I picked the crossfire because I wanted the cheapest scope with a turret.

I'm happy with the customer service and understand you get what you pay for. I'm not sure if the other scope floats to because I haven't shot that gun much either. I did loan one of the scopes to a friend for his AR and he hasn't said anything about them floating.
