So just now in my inbox I received this email....

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Dear Mr. Sanders,

My office recently received a request that you submitted through TouchStone Research Group requesting a copy of your DD
214/discharge. This email is being sent to you to verify that you requested a copy of your DD 214/discharge. The electronic
    signature on your
TouchStone request is not accepted by this Command. If you have not already received a copy of your DD 214, please answer the
following three questions regarding your discharge so that we can verify you actually requested a copy of your DD 214. If you do
not answer the following questions, our office will not be able to verify that you actually requested your discharge paperwork and
we will close the request. Once our office verifies the authenticity of the request, I will mail requested documents directly to
you. (Please provide a current mailing address).

What was the date of your discharge?
What rank were you when you were discharged?
Home of record at time of entry?

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.

    v/r,</div></div>

The questions seem harmless but the kicker is I have not requested a copy of my DD214 since at least 2009 when I was doing my SF86..... And I received that with no issues.

Any thoughts on this from an outsider looking in?

    Re: DD214 Scam??

I found that if I need a copy of my DD214, I'll either print it out (its on my computer with the rest of my records) or I'll go to my safe deposit box and get the orginal.

    Re: DD214 Scam??

I'd be more concerned that someone is requesting a copy of your 214 in your name, and thought doing it through Touchstone would be the way to do so. Check that route, ie. ex wife, etc. I'd also check the source of the email if it's legit with the USG/DoD.

    Re: DD214 Scam??

Yikes, is your name 'Mr. Sanders'? If so it sounds like somebody is looking into you or trying to be you. Might be worth checking your credit report as well.

    Re: DD214 Scam??

I would suggest contacting the folks who sent it first from a different email addess or contacting them and asking why they are trying to locate your information:

    Voice/Fax: 800-At-DD214 (800-283-3214) or 646-530-8767

If you would like, please email me your SSN, address, credit card numbers and I will call them for you since you show your location in Astan

    Re: DD214 Scam??

ROFL, thats ok, I should be able to burn up a nice Skype call with no worries. Figured it was odd, I haven't actually looked at my DD in a while but I am pretty sure it has some useful information on it. Seems like a seemingly harmless questions but I dunno. Either way Wife is scoping my credit report as I have already had my ID stolen once back in 2007/2008 timeframe and it screwed me from buying a farm at a nice price. Got it fixed in time to buy a house in the city as the farm property was already sold at that point

You might want to look into getting lifelock for a year or so, just to protect your identity from scamers. Sounds like someone is up to no good.
