Re: Pelican 1750 case configuration??

SFU, lay out your goodies and see what pleases you most. One thing I would do differently if I were doing it again is to lay your rifle upside down so that when the case is closed and carried by the handle, the gun is upright in the case. It probably doesn't matter but it bugs me to think that my rifle is upside down. Carefully mark the outline with a piece of chalk and cut it using an old electric carving knife.( I picked one up at the salvation army store for 2$) Dut it on the inside of your marks with the edge of the foam hanging off the edge of a table for support. Hold the knife verticle and let it do the work and it will come out looking like it was cut by a machine. Mike

A simple fix to the upside down rifle is just to turn the foam around. That way you can flip it one way for display and the other for transport.

Here is what I have done.

An old photo of my case.

I have a couple of center pieces to drop in for whatever system I am flying with. If I am not flying, a soft case is the way to go.

The blue gun is for illustration purposes. In my current foam I deleted the Otis kit and sling cutout. No need for them to be in the hard case.

Loos nice man... I would have forgot a few things... The cleaning rod in the case is a good idea too.

The cleaning rod isn't cut out. It's just laying in there. The pressure of the foam keeps it where it needs to be if you put it in the bottom (hinge side).

Re: Pelican 1750 case configuration??

the 1750 is like a duece and a half, there's always room for more

The foamsterbation thread.

Great looking rifles!

Here's a couple of mine. [img:left][/img]

Re: Pelican 1750 case configuration??

I traced the rifle and accessories on a poster board, then arranged them the way I wanted. I then built a foam cutter. The rest is history....turned out great. This foam is a little pricey,so do a little research and you can get plans on builting the foam cutter. It cuts the foam like butter.SAWMAN 556 just posted the link to go to.Read it,.....about 48 pages. Congradulation on the pelican 1750.

Re: Pelican 1750 case configuration??

Are you guys flying with your rifles and hence the need for perfect fit? I ask b/c while I have custom cut a couple of my rifle cases, I am mostly a range guy and thought it might be more efficient to have the crate foam (rather than, say, pick and pluck or flat foam) so that I can put any rifle I want into the case. Or do you guys have a single case and just swap out your custom cut foam depending on which rifle you are transporting?

I just used a felt tip marker pen to do the outline, then cut from the bottom up with a serrated kitchen knife. Take your time and PLAN first... Also, make certain the blade is always at 90 degrees to the foam so you're not cutting out stupid shapes on the other side.

I did mine with the logic that i could throw the case in the truck and not need anything else for some time on the range, and secondary was so i could fly with it with all its components, minus ammo.

Re: Pelican 1750 case configuration??

This is a boyt case (similar to pelican, storm, etc), I cut the foam with a razor knife (the snap-off kind, fully extended). Just be careful to keep the blade perpendicular to the cut, or it gets sloppy.

15 minutes with a new blade in a utility knife & my hunting rifles (along with the vortex 5-15 & the SWFA 5-20) are happy & safe. i just scored the outline of each rifle into the foam & finished with a sharp knife (and a little help from my 4 yr old)

great thread- it's way easier than i expected thanks to y'all.

Re: Pelican 1750 case configuration??

Two questions:

1. Is it necessary to cut the foam? Once it's cut then the case is obviously only for the one firearm unless extra foam is bought and kept. I would like to use this case for different firearms. Thoughts?

2. What's the thought behind having the bolt separate from the rifle? Is it just an easy way to show safe when first opening the case at the range?

Here is my config. The key thing for me was serial number up (for TSA) and stock is at the bottom of the case by the wheels. I also had Atlas here in Denver cut it with medium dense foam. There are locations for: sling, extra pelican small case, sun shade, cleaning rod, bolt, sling, borka tool, extra mags and bipod.
